Our experience at Sirphey, Bandelier National Monument, was not good. My wife and I ordered bison and elk cheeseburgers, thinking it would be nice to have a game meat burger. Getting the order in was easy. The wait, though, was easily over an hour. When we ordered there was no mention that it would be a long wait. When we sat down and waited we saw all the other people waiting and chased several times for our food. There were only two people working there: the chef (who I assumed was the owner) and the guy behind the cashier. On top of the very slow service and average, overcooked burgers was the poor hygiene in the restaurant. As you can see from the photos, dirty dishes were left next to the condiments, napkins and cutlery. Food was absolutely incredible, in Los Alamos this is the best Asian food place, they serve food from all over the continent and make it so tastefully. I saw they only offer deliver and pickup, yet when I showed up, it's pretty spacious actually! I could have dined here... oh well. Made the selection in the website, didn't get a receipt but when requesting receipt on site still can't get it, the girl promised that she'll send it to you and haven't got it yet. Got lamb curry, it was really just a ok, lamb is super dry which I am not a fan of. Took three bites and that's it for me. House salad is great! Love the dressing and kale goes well with it. Also got a dessert, which I regret dearly now. It's the layered cake, extremely sweet, I was having a hard time to just finish one. Worst part about my experience is that, they didn't pack me utensils! If you go eco, please tell me and I'll figure out whether to eat here or not. But I picked up a sealed bag, got to my place, opened up, nothing! Not even a napkin! I have to get two pieces of coffee stir to make a pair of chopsticks to eat. That just ruined everything. Good service and good food. I like the idea of offering online orders for pickup or eating there but there is not much seating inside or outside. After a hike me and my friends placed orders online. When we arrived we still had to wait 15-20 min or so for our food. They did however give us our drinks early when we asked. Great, flavorful food! I had the tikkas and chicken biryani. The rice was amazing and the chicken cooked perfectly (and I'm usually picky about that). The tikkas came with an interesting chutney (herbs and mint maybe?). When I went to pick up my food, I also received a complimentary mango lassi, which was a pleasant surprise as a first-time customer! They know how to make a great first impression. I will definitely be back to try more of their menu. The co-owner is the executive chef at Raaga in Santa Fe and I love his food. Other info: The interior was modern and pleasant and had some counter seating near the windows. The concept is really about hot lunch takeout, however. We tried these guys today,,eehh.. I suppose it was ok, but lots of reservations. The first impressions started out good, but there are aspects that definitely should be better. When we first got there, the first thing we noticed is that they have a ton of tables set up outside, a few tables and chairs at a counter in the inside dining area, and nobody was eating anywhere. We discover that they are not set up for hosting and serving in a true dine-in setup. I had to look for the menu (what do you people serve??!!), which was a pile of print-out sheets at the register. (Nice!... no, it wasn't.) We also discover that their menu changes frequently,... VERY frequently. If not daily, it changes WEEKLY. That may not be good... Based on what their menu says today, they offer Eastern and Southeastern Asian, Indian, and Mid-eastern cuisine. An interesting variety. I was not prepared for that, but it was definitely something that caught my attention in a good way. But then again, what will it be tomorrow?? Variety of the menu can be a good thing, but if you make something that I love today, how pissed will I be that I can't order it tomorrow??! Hmmmm... not good...I don't like that I can't get something because you just decide, out of the blue, to not make it any more??... So I ordered the Chicken Korma and ate it there. Remember about the lack of serving/hosting? This is another location (see previous reviews that I did in regards to the topic of up-front tiping) that asks for a tip BEFORE getting served the food and without any hosting or follow-up serving. So I hope that I won't need to harp too much, but the TIP is what the server gets for waiting/serving us at the table. Bringing the food and doing absolutely nothing else is not enough! (No apologies!) I find myself being compelled to put these tip-first restaurants on the same tier as take-out, which in my mind, do not do what is necessary to earn a tip. Ugh, we're now down to 3 stars. So onto the food... The korma spice was average. The rice was cooked well, I thought that the chicken was lacking, not too many pieces, but they and the potatoes were cooked averagely. The curry was light, some flavor, but it could have been stronger and thicker. It was not served hot and as I write this, I know why (see near the end of the review). There was not much ginger or onion, but the weakness in the curry was the biggest take-away. The food is somewhat flavorful, but not stellar. The serving size was average and the waiting time was average. I did not check out the bathrooms, but I did have a remaining take-away experience. When it was time to throw out the garbage, the protocol was to throw my food containers into the *garbage cans* (yes, garbage cans) left out in the outside patio-area as opposed to a receptacle you would find at a restaurant. So I guess you might as well have left the dumpster out there for me to throw out my remaining garbage?? (The food was served in to-go containers, NO plates, the flatware was plastic-ware.) This place is not designed for an eat-in experience, it is more designed for a take-out or delivery experience, which was a total turn-off. So unless you prefer those methods, my experience is now down to 2 stars. As I drafted this review, I took a look at the website, your restaurant is designed with a model to promote pro-environmentalism and sustainability by serving the food in eco-friendly containers. Their design is for people to check them out online, order online, and get the food themselves. However if you eat-in, you'll be reduced to, "You sit yourself, we bring your food in to-go containers, we don't deal with you, and you deal with the waste yourself." I also discovered on their website, they describe the method for preparing their food: "The menu, which changes daily, is prepared fresh by our professional chefs, each morning. Between 11:30am and 3:00pm, we provide hot-takeout for the busy lunch crowd. After 3:00pm, all food is chilled to ensure optimal freshness and to prepare it for both evening delivery and pickup." Since I ate at 5:30-6 (and there were a LOT of people who came for take-out), NOBODY at this time was getting their food freshly cooked, made-to-order. You chill your food after 3, which tells me that you stop cooking at 3 and all of the food is put into a fridge (which needs to be microwaved prior to serving otherwise it's cold) and we're getting the equivalent of left-overs. So my food was sitting in a fridge for 2 hours??! Yuck!.... So I am left with a metaphorical bad taste in my mouth because I was eating-in to a place that is really made for take-out or delivery, yet you feign yourself to be dine-in when you know you really are not setup for dine-in. Your menu is not consistent, and you're so tacky as to ask for a tip before you do anything. And on top of that, my food was cooked hours before it was served. read more

I've been here about a half dozen times. Take out and delivery only, though they have a bit of a bar with limited seating. You can order when you show up, but they really expect you to order at least slightly in advance. Their website is well designed and makes it easy to do so. - The menu changes daily with a wide variety of regional cuisine, so there's always something new to try. - The Indian food, which forms the foundation of their menu, has in every case been excellent. - They are cheap. I would expect to pay at least 50% more for food this good elsewhere in town, if it existed (it doesn't). - Their service is friendly and helpful. My only complaint has been with their asian/chinese dishes, but they've gotten better. They tended to be overly sauced, and with overly sweet sauce. What has happened to this once wonderful little place? I have been purchasing meals here ever since they opened a few years back. But.........Menus are no longer very diverse and instead contain mostly repeats day after day (this was the appeal of Sirphey in the first place!). Prices are high for the amount of food provided (aka, servings are pretty small compared to most places). Not only has the variety lessened, but the quality of the food has waned of late. And now, to boot, they are often closed on Saturdays (not holiday weekends, but some Saturdays there is no menu posted!). Seems our little Sirphey has gone downhill fast ever since owner opened his new venture at Unquarked. Too bad. We lost a gem. read more

Mango Lassie is outstanding and a great choice! A bit hard to find, and this location (located inside the VFW) is a bit shaky, restaurants seem to not last very long there. I'm sure this is probably their way of doing it but I was not impressed and would have gone somewhere else if I had realized how long it would take or that it wouldn't arrive at least warm. Tip for those not from Los Alamos: the address is deceptive and the noticeable sign is just a big green S. Don't look for it on Deacon St. Not there. It's on the Trinity side of the VFW building and quite visible from Trinity. There is a parking lot on the east side where the VFW door is. Look for the bright green umbrellas in front. The parking Iot is accessible from both streets. The web site is unusual, you can get to the menu only by ordering online. Not good if you're just checking out the menu. We just use a zip code for Los Alamos and it gets through. Very uninformative web site. The food is creative, fresh and delicious and the staff are great. read more

I really wanted to give 4.75 stars. I'll give 5 for now, and adjust if needed later. I discovered Sirphey about a week ago, and I've gotten food from there 4 times I think for myself, husband and baby. Twice, I wasn't even planning on it, I was nearby and it's so easy and affordable it seemed silly not to go in. I love the concept and the rotating menu- although I might suggest that they always have a couple staples so that pickier eaters will always have a standby. I love the variety that the rotating menu will provide- it's really like the variety of 3 restaurants wrapped into one- how great is that? I also appreciate the eco-friendly policies that Sirphey has implemented. I'm very happy to pay a tad bit more for eco friendly delivery boxes instead of my take out box sitting in a landfill for the next thousand years. Cheers to Sirphey for the bold and responsible choice! Everything I've had has been great, although the Indian options have been the best. Honestly, I can't remember all the names of the dishes we've tried, but I've tried to order as many different choices and then we share for a big meal. We tried the beef stroganoff once, it wasn't as saucy as I'd like, but the flavor, quality and quantity of meat was very good. My naan has seemed a bit drier than I like- perhaps there are regional differences in how naan is prepared, but I prefer mine softer and buttery-er. This is something I will update this review with later- maybe, this is a kink that will be worked out. Portion size is good, not huge, not small, my husband has always been happy with the amount of food. I LOVE the delivery option- with a baby, sometimes, delivery can save the day! My delivery arrived within the time slot I chose and we reheated and ate a delicious Indian meal. My husband was pleasantly surprised that this great Indian meal came from Los Alamos. :) All I ask for now is an app rather than a website... although, I bet if we keep them around, they'll work on that too! :) read more

Any chance I get to go to Los Alamos I take it just to eat this food. The method that Sirphey uses by cutting out the fluff and focusing on the food is certainly effective. The daily changing menu encourages people to try something they may have never been exposed to. Seeing the daily menu requires some restraint given each item cries out "try me". I tend to lean toward the Indian fare but the food is an international mix. Speaking to who I believe to be the owners, a couple, you can see the passion they have for their food and business and im glad they brought this model of food preparation to New Mexico. Hopefully they expand their delivery service to Abq one day. Has to be one if the best food spots in NM I have had. read more

I'd placed three orders with Sirphey--two were goofed up. The first goof: I ordered around lunch for a dinner order and they called me to tell me they 'ran out.' Took them a week to refund my money. Second goof: they forgot part of my order at another dinnertime delivery. Not much you can do; good luck! Apparently, what they do is batch cook the full day's stuff, and then portion it out as people order it. Not a good way to business when you cancel people's orders because you "run out." read more

Sirphey Restaurant located in Los Alamos New Mexico at 1793 Deacon Street is an interesting approach to dining in a Town of Mysteries. The first mystery is how to order the food and then maybe what is on the menu for the day. Sirphey's website encourages ordering a day ahead, on-line with credit card prepay, and then to make the arrangements for meal pick up or delivery. The menu identifies flavors from a subtle European Continental cuisine to East Indian spices and street dishes. There are a few, as in three maybe standard items on the menu daily, and then a few uniquely daily specials. For the selection reviewed, the flavor mix blended smoothly for a delightful delivery of each dish. The cost is affordable and the meal size makes it a fair value. This could become a favorite choice in dining although spontaneity might not be its best point. For our review, we ordered from the current standard menu, which I gather can change seasonally. The Shrimp avocado salad had the avocado encased in a fritter type batter that absorbed the flavors and softened with the moisture of the shrimp and diced cucumbers and tomatoes. Delightful combination that is fresh and yet satisfying enough for a slightly heavier winter meal. The German Angus Beef Burger is a traditional eggless beef patty made with premium angus and Aberdean beef. As if that isn't enough, it is topped with ham, cheddar, onions and mustard and all on a house made pretzel bun with French-fries on the side, delicious. We also sampled 2 the two piece Vegetarian Samosas which are traditional triangular turnovers filled with a mixture of spicy potatoes, onions, and peas and served with chutney. The chutney give the Samosas a texture that alone as a snack could be quite satisfying. 2 Tikkis, which are two lightly friend potato and lentil patties, are served with chutney also but this had a more mayonnaise flavor. The food is great! It's quite convenient, varied, and creative. However, I don't recommend it if you have Celiac's or are otherwise gluten-sensitive. I always purchase the items from their "gluten-free" category and have gotten quite sick more than half of the times I've ordered here. So, the cross contamination must be significant and unfortunately I will no longer order food here....but I may order the Mango Lassi, which is excellent. read more

Finally got to try Sirphey and you can add me to the growing list of fans. Wow. We got the Tequila Lime Chicken, Pork Schnitzel, samosas and naan. It was great that all the sauces were on the side so that it had a chance with our picky kids. The kids devoured the chicken and naan. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the sides of rice and veggies from the chicken and the spaetzle and cabbage with the pork. Man, that cabbage brought me right back to Germany! Amazing! Everything was just super, super tasty. Also, I was pleasantly surprised that it was warm when I picked it up for dinner so I didn't have to microwave it at home.
