Sirota's Alchymy is a top tier martial arts academy. There are a few reasons I give this rating: First, Master Sirota is a world class instructor and leader in Tae Kwon Do and was recently inducted into the TKD Hall of Fame. He is also one of the first people to create, organize, and share TKD programming for people with physical and mental disabilities and has a true heart to help everyone be fit and achieve their goals. Second, their programs are quite diverse. From basic programs to combat, to demonstration teams there is something for everyone. Detailed feedback is provided each week in classes, and the belt test is the culmination of the effort and is a great experience. Third, our daughter's experience has be amazing. She was always very shy and terrified of confrontation. Not only have the classes helped, but she's now thriving and has been empowered both in fitness and as a person. I would note that they recently moved into a new and larger facility, which looks and is great. They also have a facility in Vancouver where Master Sirota and the instructors also teach out of. A truly amazing martial arts school. Sirotas alchymy does not only teach you martial arts but also many life skills. Every thing I have learned at the alchymy has positively effected all areas of my life; from physical ability in other sports to focus in school to increasing my self confidence. In my years of attending the alchymy I have seen many kids overcome their fears and challenges. The high instructor to student ration allows the staff to attend to each child's personal needs and the large facilities allow for unique classes every day. Master Michael Sirota has pioneered martial arts for students with special needs with very unique programs for students with special needs, visually impaired , and wheelchair bound. Sirotas alchymy also does a lot of work benefiting the community with events that benefit all. Ranging from the annual blanket and jacket drive which provides warmth to the people of the downtown east-side to raising money to buy wheelchairs to people in Vietnam. The largest martial arts school I have ever seen. The Alchymy has two separate training areas, including regular training mats, Tatami mats, and a circuit training area. Instructor-to-student ratio is very high. The staff is very friendly and professional, and ensure that students obtain a concrete framework in the two martial arts taught, taekwondo and hapkido. Programs are available for children ages 4 and up, where emphasis is additionally placed on developing essential life skills, such as self-discipline, courtesy, respect, and self-control. For adults and seniors there are classes of varying intensities for all skill levels, as well as opportunities for weapons training, demonstration techniques, and competition training at provincial and national levels. The Alchymy also provides the only specialized martial arts program in British Columbia for children with special needs, and is recognized for Autism Funding by the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development. read more

When I was first searching for a martial arts school, I was a little hesitant in light of my age (55). I thought I might be a little old to start, however, Master Sirota soon allayed my fears by providing a supportive and challenging program that encourages and promotes one's progress regardless of age or level of fitness.
