Sirmione!!! What can I honestly say that hasn't already been said about this beauty?! In reading some of the previous reviews, the mentions of "drop dead gorgeous" quickly became a theme and rightfully so. This place is stunning beyond belief. A true encapsulation of one of Italy's brightest beauties. Sirmione is one of many island resort towns that sit on Italy's largest lake known as Lake Garda. I took a day trip to Sirmione from Milan and I was completely blown away by how immaculate it was. Walking into the resort, I was instantly enamored but the Scaligero Castle. It's the first view that you'll see when walking into town. Can you believe that? Just casually walking through town and then BOOM! A big ol' ancient castle right before your eyes. Although Sirmione isn't as popular or well known as Venice or Lake Como, it's still a wonderful place to visit. For one, the crowds aren't as heavy which makes for a more enjoyable experience (it's still a busy place though!). The beaches are walking distance from the parking lot and they are so clean, calm, and clear. The most popular beach on the resort is Jamaica Beach which is all the way at the tip of the island, but there are a few other beaches that are worthy of a visit as well. There's shopping, restaurants, and the famous Sirmione ice cream! That's right; this place is known for their giant ice cream scoops. I can confirm that the ice cream scoops are massive! The walking trails are lovely and the parks are so green. You have the beaches and walking trails on one side of the island, and then the stunning Lake Garda on the other side. It's popular to take boat rides on Lake Garda from here. What I enjoyed most was simply walking around. There are so many cute alleyways and beautiful structures to admire. And of course, laying out on the beach and catching those peaceful waves were pretty mesmerizing too. I'd say visiting Sirmione was one of my most memorable experiences while in the Lombardy region. I've been living in those memories for the past few days and I would love to visit again someday. It's truly such a magical place. read more

Drop dead gorgeous! The views were spectacular! It was extremely windy on the morning we visited so be sure to be dressed appropriately. We paid to park down the street before walking into the city. I would recommend spending an hour or more exploring the area. Many shops and gelaterias to explore. read more

Sirmione Sirmione Sirmione!!!!!!?????!!! This place popped up on my bucket list to visit. I was going to stay here overnight in the center of town but I am glad I did not. Way too crowded- like Disney land or Vegas in Italy Sirmione is a very cool medieval town with the castle and quaint streets and shopping and restaurants but after 2 hours of fighting the tourist crowds, i felt like i was in Disney land or Vegas and was ready to leave I suppose if i stayed in another area and took the boat across to town and relaxed by the pool or a small beach, it may have been different I recommend coming here to check it out and then end up in Valpolicella wine country or go to Verona or Venice or Milan from there read more

Really awesome pocket of the world at Lake Garda, Italy. We took a powerboat ride around this area. This is an old castle fortress. There are shops in this area to browse with souvenirs, restaurants, and very much gelato. I had a coconut gelato at Mirkoz gelato. It's fun to wander around the crooked stoned alleys of this magical area. There is a public bathroom outside the castle and it is .50 euros to use it. You can get around to the water too. read more

all over the year, many people are there, yes it's a great place, with not so cheep ice cream, watches for thousands of euros and more, but the old part of the city behind the wall and the rocca scaliga it's worth to look in to. Look for to the small bars and shops, the paths and roads in the second row you'll fiind on different places a dispencer to get fresh water we have had arrived the island this year by ship, this is a great experience in opposite to place the car in the sun and go miles to the city gate read more

Sirmione is drop dead gorgeous. I spent 1/2 a day walking the old city, sitting in the church, contemplating buying a 22 dollar "starter" from a gorgeous restaurant, and buying some really cute Alessi housewares. It's very expensive here- don't get me wrong. But it has to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Take the boat ride- it's fantastic! And you'll get great photos of the water castle from the water. People watch. There are some interesting people here- lots of 'em! read more

I stayed here for 3 nights in August and it was such a lovely place. Its a medieval town on the banks of Lake Garda and the old town (where we stayed) is in the grounds of a castle with lots of old cobbled streets full of restaurants, gift shops and the most amazing ice cream palours. I've never seen anything like it! We visited the thermal spa which was one of the highlights of our trips and a must I would say. The other thing we did was hire a boat for the day which I would highly recommend. We stopped off at a couple of other towns around the lake and dived off and swam in the beautiful clear water. Can't wait to do it all again someday. read more

This is a beautiful medieval town on the banks of lake garda. We stayed here for a week and fell in love with it. The old town is surrounded by the castle walls and the narrow streets are filled with lovely little shops and bars and hotels. It does get very crowded within the walls at peak hours as many tourists come to visit Sirmione from other parts of the lakes as there are attractions such as the castle and the grotto ruins on the headland, so when we were there we tended to avoid the centre in peak hours and return in the evenings when the day trippers leave and the locals and people staying in the town come out to enjoy the lovely restaurants, bars and shops. The atmosphere is vibrant and friendly. They have a weekly market which draws many locals there. Sirmione has a beautiful clean beach which stretches round the headland. The lake is beautiful to swim in in warm weather! Garda is just a 30 min boat ride away across the lake and I think you'll find Sirmione is much more attractive place than Garda itself. read more

Beware the mandatory parking! It goes up from .50 weekdays to €2 per hour on weekends. If you overstay by just two minutes, there is a warden who will give you at €17 fine. Luckily for us, there is a little police station right near the exit of the car park, where you can pay your fine! What a scam. Sirmione just seemed like a tourist trap, even in February. Lazise is much nicer. read more
