Of course I did this very last minute (the day of) and I called around. Sue was able to get me in that evening for a 2 hour "Raindrop Therapy" massage. Her space is a charming little cottage off of the main strip in Mendocino. Both she and her space are absolutely delightful! Before we began we discussed my needs, likes, dislikes, what's going on in my life, etc. This helps her get a feel for me and what my body may need. Once the massage began, we talked a bit about oils and what some of them were doing for my body. She was very generous with the essential oils (which I love) and her time to really work on my body. The combination of her knowledge, firm touch understanding of a bodies needs, oils, warm towels and stones... so wonderful. The massage ended with a salt scrub on my feet, and the ringing of Tibetan singing bowls being chimed under the bed. When I came out of the room I was greeted with a delightful cup of herbal tea. I actually smelled a bit like a wonderful floral/herbal tea when I left. I let the oils stay on my skin all night so that they could work their "magic". I live down in Marin but am already thinking about planning another overnight visit to Mendocino just so I can get another one of these amazing massages.

The office is easy to access and parking was available (although during weekends and tourist season it might be a good idea to allow 15 min to park before your appointment). Inside the waiting room was pleasant, the bathroom was clean and the treatment room smelled good (mild - not too strong) and had nice music. I arrived on time and Nicole was ready. She greeted me and invited me into a very cozy treatment room. After a short conversation (3 or 4 questions) about medical history, what brought me in and style preferences, she invited me to get on the table. Nicole started gently, probing and assessing to see what her training and my requests together suggested would be most helpful. From the first touch it was obvious that Nicole is a compassionate, sensitive, confident, experienced and well-trained massage therapist. The whole massage was relaxing and clearly theraputic. After the massage we discussed herbal supplements that might support my healing and I purchased a jar of Chawanprash. My personal reason for going in was to help recover from a serious UTI/kidney infection and get some support for side-effects from antibiotics (e.g. muscle aches, edema, constipation). Nicole knew exactly how to work with my body to ease into releasing the discomfort. She did a fabulous job of listening to my breath and following my body's clues about when to go deeper, linger longer or move on. As I walked out I noticed several things: 1. I could feel my deep muscle aches were gone. 2. I could see that there was a reduction of edema. 3. I knew already that I would be going back soon. BOTTOM LINE: If you want a truly therapeutic massage in Mendocino, you will be doing yourself a favor to go see Nicole.

Her office is on Little Lake Street and is in a cute historic bank of structures. I have really tight and painful IT bands and hip flexors which result in low back pain and my gait being somewhat off. I actually walk straighter after she has worked her magic on me. We booked the outdoor hot tub #2 for one hour on a Sunday. It's $40/person on the weekends. This was a rainy weekend early in the season, so the spa was very quiet. It was quite serene to be outside in the hot tub, with light rain falling down! There is complete privacy at the tub, but there is also a larger communal tub option as well. The sauna is also communal. One drawback is that the restroom and locker room area did not seem to have separated male/female spaces. Luckily, we had the place to ourselves besides some older women, so it was not an issue. However, I would not have loved it had it been busier. It's a small space, so heads up on that if you're going. Overall, this was a fun and unique experience to do in Mendocino. It was very relaxing and peaceful, and the price was decent for the service. I would definitely go again. Very fun!
