Had an alarm on our aerobic system. Based on experience we expected to have to pump out the…read moresystem. We called several service providers and Anytime Septic was the first to return the phone call. We received a quote to pump out the system of $300 on the phone. When they arrived, they pumped out the system (which needed to be pumped out) and then investigated the alarm. In less than a minute the technician said your aerator pump is not working. With that I asked if he had one on the truck. He said he did, and that it would cost $1500. I said "that's a lot of money for that pump". His response was "do you want it or not". I responded "you got it, put it in". I saw him take the pump out of the box in the truck, and asked him for the part number. He refused to supply it, telling me I could get it off the pump after it was installed. I actually did the installation of the pump and the wiring myself while he pumped out the system. Total bill was $1800. After he left I got the part number off the pump and found that the exact same pump sold online for $287 delivered. I contacted Anytime Septic and explained that a profit of $1200 on a $287 pump seemed excessive. After calling, texting and emailing I was finally able to speak with someone directly. In the conversation they said they couldn't figure out how the technician came up with the price for the pump and installation service (which took 10 minutes). They eventually refunded us about $600. We appreciated the refund, but if we weren't persistent we would have ended up paying much more than what the job was worth. In the future we will do a better job of comparing services provided by such companies and get the quotes in writing. Anytime Septic needs to make sure their technicians are not charging customers an excessive amount that can't be justified.

It was time again, and I wanted to try someone new since I wasn't really excited about using my old service. I called a local place and booked an appointment which turned out to be a disaster. Their techs didn't really seem to know what they were doing, their truck was undersized and they told me I was looking at nearly $900 to pump my main and aerobic tanks. I apologized for their wasting their time, but there was no way I was paying that. After looking on Yelp! I discovered Troy and Blue Lightning. After calling and talking at length with Troy about my setup, he dropped by and took a look in person. Troy did what I felt was a pretty thorough examination of my tanks, the sediment buildup and equipment and even the sprinkler heads and control unit, and told me I didn't need my tanks pumped at all. In fact, in his opinion, the tanks were in tip top shape. He did caution me that the aerobic tank would need some attention in 3-4 months, and I assured him I will be contacting him for that. He didn't even charge me for the visit. After talking with Troy, I realize the racket that most septic companies are running. An uninformed homeowner (which was me before Troy schooled me) makes the call because they've been told "pump it every xx months". The septic company is more than happy to take your money and pump out your tank, whether it needs it or not. In the case of the other company I contacted, I waited for weeks because their truck was getting repaired, and when they showed up, I was told they would have to make 2 dumps to get both tanks, effectively charging me for two clean outs. Troy is a fresh breath of honesty that I highly recommend contacting when you have a septic issue.
