So they had offered a "trial class"" - had an okay first class, but it was too basic for my children so we decided to not enroll and enroll in another local swim class. BEWARE - what they didn't tell you is that their trial classes cost the same as a class and they auto-register your child for recurrent classes (despite emailing them that we were not enrolling). My children are all in MULTIPLE activities across San Diego, and never once do people offer a trial class only to CHARGE you if you decline automatic enrollment. Very sneaky policy - will never recommend to anyone as "finding the right fit" for your child is definitely not their top priority.

That's for 2 kids, so let's double the original $80 and account for inflation over 5 years.... I still don't manage to get anywhere near $295. That's ALOT of money just for a few 30 minute lessons. I also have to add that these lessons were rarely a full 30 minutes, mostly because of other kids in the class showing up late and then huge drama as they get in and fuss with their goggles, while my kid (who did show up on time) sits being ignored. Lessons would routinely not get going until 10 minutes in. The teachers and the pool staff were mostly great, but the value for money has disappeared. The staff who took my cancellation didn't even ask why, and the pool staff said we weren't the first. Maybe Covid is a justification but I doubt when things get back to normal the prices will return to 2019 levels - if they do I might consider returning, but for now we have taken our kids to a different school.

With that said the registration process for me personally is easier now than it was at first because I do have priority registration (which means I get to sign up at an earlier date than the new families) My kids love it and we look at it as fun academic learning. I allow them to be part of the process of picking their own classes. The only reason I can NOT give a 5 star rating is because I agree the pick up process is a pain. Drop off in the morning if timed right isn't so bad. The under paid traffic control people don't/can't do very much to help. I've watched parents yell, ignore and argue with these people who are attempting to do their job. I've even seen adults/parents be so angry(and I'm sure frustrated) that they have crashed into other cars:( The thing that has helped me stay calm and want to continue to send my kids here is, I get to the pick up line early and have about 45min of peace (I read, listen to a book or eat lunch) the other option is wait till the traffic dies down a little then pick up your kids. The school actually recommends parents to do that and the your kids are in a safe place while waiting. If you hang in there, it does get easier. Just my thoughts from a current GateWays parent.
