Gare du Midi, Cureghem, Anderlecht

We popped in for a quick bite before grabbing our train out of MIDI. We ordered two sandwiches and…read morealso grabbed a pack of crackers for snacks later. I absolutely cannot believe how in expensive prices are here, our sandwiches were only €2.20 and €2.70 and the crackers only just over €1! It's no wonder the place is busy with a line long enough you need to grab a ticket for service. Our sandwiches were fantastic and filling (I'd say it's just slightly smaller than a Subway "Footlong," if you're coming from the States). We didn't branch out much but if you're looking for special meats or cheeses, you're sure to find what you want with the massive selection they have available. I wish we had found this place before our last day in Brussels!

Oh man, where do I start. Rosario is an institution in Anderlecht. They have been here for as long…read moreas I can remember (which is 6 years). This is a family run business that is best described as an Italian deli, and then some! Every day at lunch their is a queue that goes on forever and you need to pick a number to get served. People oder in their sandwiches days in advance or have a standing order for every day. Yes, it's that kind of place, it's just so good. I tend to avoid the busy lunch period and I visit on my way home from work. They also do Lasagna, tiramisu, pizze, fresh Italian mozzarella, an array of cheeses and charcuterie and also pasta, both fresh and to cook at home. I love this place more than any deli anywhere in the world. Must visit!

They have a variety of other items and it seemed like a lot of people were ordering the sandwiches. They'll also warm it up for you, if you ask. We randomly found this spot on our last day of Brussels but if we knew about it earlier, we for sure would have gone here for breakfast a few times.

This location is at the center of a lot of the major tourist attractions and is therefore great if you're looking for a quick, on-the-go breakfast or lunch without having to sit down (though that is still an option). Panos is a chain bakery/sandwich shop and was recommended by one of the aunties. Stuff you can find here includes sandwiches, wraps, soups, sweet and savory pastries, individual loaves and rolls, salads, coffee, and hot chocolate. Super basic, but high-quality stuff compared to a lot of other chain bakery places we saw as we traveled through Europe. Some of those sweet pastries were just really fancy looking for what's supposed to apparently be a very basic place, while even the basic stuff tasted really delicious. Their croissants were also super delicious, and I thought the raspberry croissant was particularly interesting. This particular location is on the street branching just off Grote Markt (Grand Place) and just across from the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert's southern entrance. It was near where we were supposed to meet up with our tour group, so we dropped by very quickly to grab some breakfast. My chief memory of that morning was that their waffle honestly made me feel better about the first half of the day.

Biggest organic shop ever... I mean that I know in Belgium :) You will find everything you need…read morethere from foods to cleaning products and cosmetics. I find the cheese counter with free tasting quite impressive! There are also a lot of vegan cheese and meat substitutes at the fresh department (I am myself not a big fan of those substitutes considering the fact that they often contain a large amount of of unhealthy fats and are mainly soya-based). You can also purchase by weight nuts, dry fruits and other healthy snacks. Their chocolate department is also quite amazing! The fresh fruits and vegetables counter is a bit deceptive though, despite the choice, doesn't look very good from my point of view. You won't get a lot of help and advice in this store except in the cosmetics department on the first floor and of course at the cheese and deli counters. The prices are quite fair even money-worth for some products, mainly belgian and dutch one, but much less for other, let's say french one for example. Overall, a great organic shop with quite everything you're looking for.

This place is pretty okay for nonperishable "superfoods" - you literally can't walk three feet anywhere in the store without finding six different brands of quinoa. Definitely worth a stop if you're nearby and don't feel like ordering your organic shampoo or chia seeds online.
