The workers are nice and helpful. They are out there even when it is hot and they helped me drag my barrels over after I finished sorting, which I appreciated. It can be a little difficult to spot at first since the recycling area is located behind the Lowe's, but once you know where it is, it is an easy stop if you have an abundance of cans to turn in. They also have a portable handwashing station, which I was grateful for because my hands were pretty sticky after handling all the cans. I feel like they pay well for aluminum and plastic goods making the effort to recycle more worth the work.

I had the day off today so I decided to load up our trunk with recyclables. Drove to our usual recycling place (NorCal Recycling behind Hobby Lobby on Douglas) and was bummed that they're closed on Mondays. Really didn't want to have to unload the bags or carry them around until the next time I could make it out there. Decided to come on Yelp to find another recycling center close by. Saw Santana Recycling on Fairway but had never heard of it or even had any idea where it was located. Skimmed the 8 reviews but didn't see any mention of the location. Figured it was probably on the side or the back of a building so I drove around and finally found it behind Big Lots (close to the Lyon building). Plenty of parking but if you want to be closer to the cashier, there are about 4 spots in closer proximity. Wasn't sure if they would bring the bins to me (like they do at NorCal Recycling) or if I was supposed to grab the bins, or lug my bags to the front or what. So I just grabbed a bundle of 3 bins to my car, dumped the different bags into corresponding bins (plastics, aluminum, glass) and then pushed the bins to the cashier. The cashier didn't say anything when he started weighing my bins so I greeted him instead. He responded politely and asked how I was doing. Weighing the items was fast and soon I was $12 richer and my trunk/garage was cleaner. :)

We recently had a bunch of furniture deliveries to our house that came in huge cardboard boxes. We…read moreknew it would take weeks for us to dispose of the cardboard in our normal weekly trash collection, so I looked online to see if the Lincoln dump would take it. We had been to the dump (Western Placer Waste Management Authority) a few months earlier to dispose of old paint cans that the previous homeowners had left in the garage. I remember going to the dump and finding it very confusing. So I'll jot down how I think the process goes, based on our two visits: If you're disposing paints, turn right. It's free to dispose of the paints if you live in Placer County. If you're trying to get cash for recyclables (plastic bottles, aluminum cans, glass bottles) or you have a truck load of stuff you want to dump, turn left. You'll see a line of cars waiting for their turn to talk to the attendant. The attendant will ask what brings you in. We said we had a bunch of cardboard boxes, as well as buyback items (cans, etc). He then gave us a paper that said "Buyback" on it and told us to drive further down. The next attendant took our paper and then told us to park at a certain number. Behind/below that number was a dumpster where you would unload your items, which in our case was a bunch of cardboard. Boy, that felt so nice to get rid of the cardboard from our house (for free!) and also know it would be going somewhere to probably get recycled again. (We did confirm they do not take styrofoam). As we were finishing up, we noticed a truck pulling in next to us and a mother and son dumpling a trunk load of items like an old bicycle as well as other trash. I was curious so I asked them how much they were charged for their load. The woman told me it was $44. I thought the process was very interesting. People want to get rid of old household items so they'll bring it to the dump. The attendants will I guess eyeball the load (or possibly weigh it?) and give you a price to unload the items. There might be a different structure and area if you're unloading, say, a ton of lawn cuttings, tree branches, etc like our gardener did for our yard work project. Maybe that's like a compost section that we didn't get to see on our visits. Definitely glad we have this place nearby. Now we know where to go if we want to get rid of paint, cardboard or just junk! Prices seem very reasonable.

Why write a review on a dump?  Because garbage is the necessary evil of all communities.  Like it…read moreor not, humans create an enormous amount of waste. And it needs to go somewhere.  The Western Region Sanitary Landfill stands out above many others as one of the best places to take your garbage.  For a nominal fee, you can rid yourself of the unwanted, unneeded, obsolete, outdated, broken, damaged, and useless items that plague your property. Old appliances, e-waste, hazardous waste and even used tires are accepted free.  Recycling is a top priority which prompted me to write this review. We have come here a few times already having to part with old TV's, a stereo system, and computer. It was a bit sad to see them go after serving a long, and faithful service. It's funny how some appliances and electronics that were part of the household for many years, makes me feel guilty about leaving them behind at the dump. The employees are nice and helpful in directing as to where you separate your garbage.  There is constant activity going on as trucks move to and fro, keeping the garbage under control and somewhat organized.  I especially appreciate, that they accept our used batteries at no charge! And we seem to accumulate a lot in a short amount of time! The importance of a dump is not thought of much, until an item you no longer want gets in your way, and then it becomes one of the best places to prove the phrase "out of sight, out of mind".   Where does it all go?  I don't think I want to know.
