Everything about my experience trying to join Simpson has been terrible. I applied over four months ago for Spring 2024 semester, which starts in a few days. Only two weeks ago was I given my "credit evaluation" which is super brief and doesn't explain which classes transferred over. The admission counselors also are unable to answer any of your questions- except that I would have to retake stats for credit.. because my stats class didn't count. Also I have heard nothing regarding my financial aid. Once again the semester is supposed to start in days and I can't find any information anywhere. It is so hard to get in touch with anyone, as calls, texts, and emails lead nowhere. I am really upset- as I was really excited to join Simpson, finish my bachelors degree, and then pursue my Masters. I was also told that the reason I haven't gotten bank my financial aid award yet is because I need to secure my tuition deposit... by paying $200? Again, I am very upset and disappointed.

I've called countless times over the months and have been unable to reach anyone. They drop you from classes without reason, and the admissions office staff always have horrible attitudes. I'd love to talk about my experience as a student here, but they are so disorganized and unhelpful that I'm not able to attend this college.

I love this place. The campus is wonderful. It has the only Redwood trees east of the coast, and…read moreit's a nice little park like grove with picnic tables to chill in the shade. They just recently spent however many thousands of dollars on outdoor solar panel charging stations (where students can charge devices), but I still havn't seen one kid using them because there is no shade structure to utilize, lol, which I understand because of the solar panels, but come on, an average day here is hot. There's only a few tables and a few benches outside, otherwise, people literally sit on the floor of hallways. Ok, caught me, I am here to gripe, so here goes. First of all, why start school in Mid-August? College of the Redwoods doesn't start back until the 29th! But Shasta College makes it's students come in the middle of the hottest month of the summer (15th), in one of the hottest places in the country? Aren't you people supposed to be educated? Secondly, as I led up to previously, instead of pointless things that noone uses, spend money on things people actually will use, like shade structures on campus for one. There are only two such structres, and they are both designated as smoking areas (that nonsmoking students avoid like the plague). So smokers have a cool place to hang out, but non smokers have basically nothing. Noone even uses the outdoor auditorium because there is no shade of any kind, and delapidaded buildings (the old ticket store?) now fester mold and rodents. Tear down the old buildings if they're not being used. Put up some new stuff. Pretty basic. Also, for God sake, spend some money on revamping the rooms a bit. The lecture hall in the 800 building is the room where important confrences and meetings are held, and the light socket on the front wall has wires sticking out and the broken cover on the floor, explosing a hole in the wall. It has been that way for years, and would literally cost less than a dollar to fix. Instead, now everyone that comes to attend an event at SC sees this, not to mention the students that actually pay to be here. Little things. Another idea, stucco over the awful brown rock siding on all the exterior buildings. It wouldn't cost a lot, and the white buildings would look modern and more aptly suited to environment than the brown boxes that still look like the 1950's. And why does campus outside seem like a ghost town? I am literally expecting to see a tumble-weed blowing by. Bring back the pond instead of a stagnant concrete hole in the middle of campus. Bring back the waterfall. We have thousands of millions of gallons of water less than ten miles of way, and our campus deserves to have a few thousand of it for beautification purposes. They allow every other business in town water to water their lawns and bushes, so why are we are not even allowed to keep our public gardens going?! Green it up!!! Ok SC, so I know I'm harshing your mellow right now, and I do apologize for that. As I said before I really love this place, and really want to see it become as good as it can be, and this is sort of my parting letter as a graduate who has spent hours on campus and loved every minute of it. p.s. the speedbumps are unnecessary

I went in for the LVN program for the first two semesters and it was terrible. The first semester they try to cram in biology, anatomy and physiology all one, within 8 weeks. I passed that semester with high grade but it was truly done on my own. The instructors just read off of a PowerPoint presentation for 3 hours, there really isn't much teaching. Also they like to test their students with NCLEX style questions which seems like it would be a nice way to get experience for the real thing, except they don't show you how to take these type of testing or what to expect. I believe at one point the instructor said they expect us to fail these tests the first few times, as if that's some sort of way to teach? I was hoping that after that first semester was over and once we got into the actual LVN courses it would get better but it didn't. Same thing, it's a lot of teaching yourself as you go, and using a lot of outside resources to learn. For the amount of money they charge, you would think that you would receive a better education, but it seems like the instructors are only there to babysit you while you teach yourself. I will say there was one instructor that actually taught some classes, Allan, he was the only one that seemed like he was there to help students. I unfortunately had a family emergency that caused me to miss a day and since I was not able to make the hours up I decided to drop out of the program, which in hindsight was a blessing in disguise. Now I'm going to Shasta Community College to finish my degree and I'm actually leaning more and getting the tools I need to make a great nurse once I'm out in the real world. Another thing to take into account is their attendance policy, you cannot miss any days, making up the hours is impossible if you have a job. They don't care what the reason is, the only thing they'll "excuse" is a family death, which you will have to provide a death certificate to prove it. The place I work at has lots of graduates from this place and they never have anything positive to say about it, which should have been my warning. Overall I would definitely recommend not going here, the lure of having part time evenings classes available sounds great especially for those that have to work full time but I promise you it's not worth it.
