The state demanded mandatory quarantine at home if anyone had a fever or showed signs of COVID. The board wanted them to take tests and prove it was negative then return regardless. Admin advised staff to follow state policy AND board. The board saw massive attendance issues with staff, irresponsible numbers of staff members were let go base in poor attendance, because they followed state policies. The maintenance staff was worked half to death and undermanned, yet still not paid any overtime. Phys, Sped, and Cafeteria staff received no incentives or special help to facilitate mask, distance, and other state/national policies. The whole thing was a mess. I was unfortunate enough to see this school at it's worst and for that I am being understanding and giving it 2/5 instead of 1/5, but seriously, the board that governs this specific school needs to get involved with the staff more and pay attention before making another heinous mistake in the future.

My child was bullied more heavily at this school than at any other, yet my child seemed to be the…read moreonly one held accountable for their mistakes. I was so hopeful for this school because they seemed to cultivate a safe learning environment for children that are neuro divergent but this couldn't be further from the truth. My child's friend had attended a previous year and was withheld from recess as a punishment which is illegal, and my child told me they were withheld from PE and was given a failing grade for that class which seems pretty unfair. They did not work WITH me on my child's behavior issues, but instead just sent them away. I do everything I can at home for my child's issues, I cut out food dyes, have a very structured daily routine and I am consistent with consequences. They treated me like I was a bad parent and that I failed my child when in reality it seems that they failed us. They asked my child to leave (unofficial expulsion) because they had pushed another kid down for cutting in line which wasn't okay, but instead of giving them a behavioral plan, they just gave up on them. My child also told me that their teacher had often screamed "shut up" at the kids to silence them. Personally, I've had many teacher who were able to silence a class without even saying a word. Screaming "shut up" at kids is abusive and we don't even do that in our home. The teacher my child had often times compared students to her grown son which comes across as very in appropriate because you cannot compare children, they are all different and it can lead to really unhealthy standards and expectations. They refused to release my child's records to me despite a formal letter asking them to do so, which is illegal, and they will not give me their 504 plan so I have to start a new one for my child. This school is a facade and presents itself like it's so loving, nurturing and sweet but the teachers are verbally abusive and extremely biased and foster conflict among the children by showing obvious favoritism. I would not recommend this school to anyone who cares about their child's mental wellbeing. I am reporting this school to the California board of education for investigation. They need to be held accountable for their shady actions and negligent administration. Side note: all schools in California received a stipend to help provide food to low income families when food stamps were shut down for almost 2 months. Almost all the other schools in the district that I heard of loaded up each family with a trunk full of groceries, Monarch did not. They kept their stipend to themselves. Incredibly greedy if you ask me.
