I called Dave yesterday morning with a no heat issue. He told me he had another job here in town…read moreand could get me in around noon. He called a little after noon said he would grab lunch and be right over. He quickly diagnosed the main problem and pointed put a couple things I had not noticed. He said he could right then or we could schedule for another time. I let him jump into it and left him alone to work. He finished it all up and gave me the bill. I was pleasantly surprised as everything he had quoted me was less than he had said. I'll be recommending him without doubt. Thank you Dave!

Absolutely terrible company to deal with. We purchased a new Wood burning fireplace, one of their…read moremost expensive, for our home and when they did the site visit, they did not measure correctly which we did not know until months later and construction had proceeded to the point of no return. When the unit arrived, they could not run the chimney under a beam that was always existing and known. It was also, apparently, on the drawing and despite them being a dealer for Regency they had zero understanding of how to install or the requirements for the fireplace. Long story short, I had to figure out the solution and did get it to fit, but Dave threw a grown man tantrum and decided to breach the install contract. In the end, he screwed up, refused to take 2 hours to come to our site and work out some details with the other contractors who were helping to fix their mistake, refused to accept responsibility for his mistake and then refused to refund money for equipment (chimney) that he did not supply. We are currently taking legal action because he will not provide the refund for the chimney despite the emails we have where, he offered to. It is ok because we have actually spent over $50,000 on additional HVAC, fireplaces and other contracts with their competitor Northern Energy Systems, who are real professionals, because they did not want to try to help get the job done. The new company we hired (to complete the installation of the fireplace they couldnt figure out how to install) thru Home Hardware in North Bay, were excellent and were able to solve the Chimney issue with very little extra effort. Dave's Heating just simply took zero time and effort to try and resolve the issue other than offering a refund...which they eventually did not follow thru with and ended up ripping us off $3k. I was also happy to spend extra money on construction changes to make the fireplace work. It boiled down to this entire conflict occurring because Dave would not come to the site, AT MY COST, to meet with the general contractor, to come up with a solution. Dave is a sad excuse for a business owner and an arrogant and selfish human being. I am sure the good reviews are for regular smooth contracts, but be warned, if things do not go his way or there is some situation where they make a mistake, they will rip you off and look out for themselves. I try to give out contracts to local companies being from the North, but this company belongs in the big city. We highly recommend Northern Energy Systems in Mattawa and North Bay Home Hardware instead of this company.

We picked Paul Brandt Fine Carpentry because he had so many 5-star reviews, and because of the…read morephotos of his work shown here. We got lucky! He's a gem. His work is just as described, "fine carpentry". His attention to detail I've never seen before. He's fast, accurate, and most importantly, he can be trusted. We hired someone to build our cottage in Embden, but unfortunately a lot of the work was shoddy and embarrassing, but Paul was willing to correct others' mistakes, and there were many. He even corrected the plumber's inability to install our shower correctly! He can build anything, and his creativity matched mine, which I thought I had good ideas! Paul can visualize the best fit for every situation and more importantly, what will "look" the best. He customized our entire project: Reframed new stairway (dangerous, not to code), reframed crooked walls/ceiling, flawless drywall install/finish, floor to entire ceiling shiplap for entire 2nd floor En Suite, installed LVP flooring, designed/created custom push-latch doors that seamlessly blend into the walls for storage areas, customized built-in coffee bar area with antique buffet, framed windows/doors per out specifications, pantry shelves, 3 custom closets with shelves, installed 3 doors (even gave us an antique door turned into sliding "barn door", designed/installed a huge, stainless range hood that no one else would, replaced cedar v-match siding where a window once existed (due to new stairway) and even a lean-to over the hot tub outside! We feel very fortunate to find Paul here, and I can't recommend him enough. He is a gentleman, he's respectful, and he will treat you right, and that's something rare! What I like the most about Paul is, he's honest, hard-working, he shows up on time and calls you to let you know when he'll be there. This has never happened before with other contractors! Photos are coming soon
