And after being almost three months past due…read morefor my regular haircut+balayage I was desperate for some much needed haircare (other wonderful by-product of covid...not). I found my stylist Maggie on instagram and then looked Beehive up here on Yelp. I was pretty impressed. So I reached out to Maggie made an appointment via text and then got the appointment request and alert after. I asked Maggie before how the salon was running. She told me I would be the only one in there with her for most of the time and she would be wearing a mask throughout. I felt very comfortable and safe. One of the other stylists did come in later with a client but there was a chair between us. I was also pleased to note in case anyone forget they had extra masks available at the door. Maggie took ten minutes with me before asking me what I was looking for. I told her I usually had a balayage with a haircut including layers and some thinning. My hair is pretty wild and thick so I tried to warn her it may take her some time to prep and then cut. She was really efficient with her time. So often you go to a stylist and they loose track of time it's annoying. She was so sweet and fun I felt like we were best friends right away. When it was done I was really impressed by how she blended the color and really brightened it up for the start of summer. The salon itself is a cozy little spot situated on the side street behind Nosh. There's metered parking right in front but you do have to pay for it. The salon is really cute inside with exposed brick, some nice plants setup, and limited clutter. So awful you go to a salon with too much product on display or magazines that it just looks messy. Not at Beehive. I highly highly recommend beehive and Maggie. Although you're going to want to book your next appointment while you're there they book up fast.

The cuts and color I get there are so good that I can get away with two "big" visits per year and two visits for maintenance, so my hair stays in great condition and just looks lived-in and healthy. And the ambiance is even nicer now that Liana has expanded by bringing in a few additional talented stylists! This also opens up more possibilities for appointments, so if you're looking for an intimate salon with a great staff, this is definitely the place to go.

I showed the tech the hair color that I normally use to achieve a blond color. When she was finished I was PURPLE. She said they were trying some new products. With the price that I pay (for myself and both of my daughter's hair), it's simply too much. Appointments take weeks to get with certain individuals. Additionally, while the set up seems like it should work (one person cuts the hair while another colors), it's actually not as seamless as it should feel. Lastly - the parking is pretty miserable too. At this juncture - I won't be back. They have made zero accommodations after each cancellation to try to even rebook my appointment.

A friend recommended I try Dathan Hunter Salon so I stopped by and checked it out, it's in a great spot in the downtown area, there is parking nearby and some of my favorite shops too. The salon was modern and clean and they had adorable dogs so I made an appointment with Ilyana. I ran a little late for my appointment but they forgave me, I enjoyed the experience and Ilyana did a fantastic job picking up where my previous stylist left off and my hair looks better than ever. I made my next appointment before I left and am delighted to have found a new spot for getting all prettied up.

She told me exactly what she was doing as she cut my hair. How considerate of her. She took her time and nailed the style. She gave me great instructions on using a diffuser with curl-defining cream. (It's a great product, it was not a hard sell) I would have never thought to try it on my very straight hair. The scalp massage with shampoo felt amazing! There were other women in the salon, I was very impressed by their color and cuts. I have several acquaintances who use this salon. Their hair always looks great. The salon has a nice vibe, it's clean and stylish. Dathan and Ilyana are warm and friendly. It was a pleasure to get a cut. The shop is very convenient to the ferry if you live on the islands. A big plus for me! The price was reasonable.

I hate seeing myself in the mirror, and I get so anxious about having such thin hair and grossing out the stylists with it! However, walking into this salon, you immediately feel relaxed - it's clean, bright, and so welcoming. There are huge windows and fun music is playing. Just love it. Tessa was my stylist, and she was truly incredible. Her blonding techniques are INSANE. I am always so nervous and embarrassed by my thin hair, but she made me feel totally relaxed as she did my cut and color. She is super talented and I highly recommend her. The little things here are what make it stand out - a TV is on the wall by the shampooing station, there are tampons in the bathroom, and there's an ADORABLE dog, Ziggy, walking around as the salon mascot! The owner, Maggie, thanked me directly when I was checking out, which was really thoughtful. She also showed me some extension options in case I ever decide to go that route.
