I'm sure that this has more to do with the fact that we have experienced the coldest winter in recorded history, and that wood burning stoves are a more eco-friendly option than other forms of heating, (they are carbon-neutral), rather than the fact that this place has been set up by really rather lovely people... but I prefer to think that it's the latter that has prompted their success... a kind of divine commendation in the super-dooper karma stakes. I have visited Kindle on several occasions and each time have picked their brains, trying to find a chimney to fit my odd-ball burner that defies standard sizes. I have consistently promised them that I would not be in a position to patronize them, but they have been incorrigible in their efforts to help me in any way that they can regardless. What can I say. I found this shop when I was looking for a Victorian fireplace for my previous flat, and it was just the job: they had a fireplace with a cast iron shelf, so no need for a surround - exactly what I needed to bring my lounge back to its original glory. If you don't find exactly what you want, however, they can custom build surrounds to match your exact requirements, and they also offer a repair and restoration service if you have an original fireplace in need of some TLC. They offer a (fairly pricey) fitting service, which is convenient if like me you're no handy DIY expert.

The garden centre is pretty well stocked for peripherals, but also has a nice selection of instant colour seasonal plants as well as some fruit and herbs for kitchen gardens. Their willows and topiary are a bit old fashioned and I would recommend going to a specialist nursery for trees (try Chew Valley Trees) but this is great for a gardening hit in town.

There are sections for homeware and DIY, as well as a garden centre. You can get more or less anything for the home, a few things you didn't know you needed, and a few things no-one would ever need. There's an entire row of various things for your milkman to leave the milk in, to give you an idea of the range. It's not that cheap unfortunately. I think all there costs must go on the staff (who are very helpful), of which there seem to be a greater number than there are customers most of the time.
