I said that we'd find someone else who would be able to meet with us, which we did. The experience at the other place was significantly better than our experiences here. This funeral home is outdated, was never involved in our past funerals, and couldn't even meet with us. They lost a lot of money that day and a loyal customer.

The two people who came to the house to pick up at 4:00 AM during a snowstorm were very professional. The Funeral Director, Sherry, was empathetic and professional. There was no "sales pressure" of any kind. Sherry gave clear descriptions of all the services and prices. Everything was very clearly and compassionately explained. Once services were selected, Sherry carefully reviewed them and the prices. The prices were very reasonable. There is ample parking. The decor of the funeral home is attractive. The common areas and every room I saw were spotless. Every aspect of my family's contact with AJ Desmond & Sons showed caring and professionalism. I highly recommend AJ Desmond & Sons!

We went up soon after to discuss services and pricing. The place itself is gorgeous; bright, welcoming. Not stuffy or sad. You can tell it's been recently updated. We were comfortable in the lobby and in the consultation room. We were offered complimentary bottled water, which is nice when you're bone dry from crying for hours straight. We made it clear from the beginning we didn't want a funeral or even viewing service. The salesperson was respectful of that and moved forward with going over cremation services. The cremation service itself is carried out by another company and was only like $600? But for some reason, the funeral home charges almost $3000 on top of that for their time and services. That seems wild to me for someone who didn't want viewing, mourning services, visitation, etc. It's expensive to live and it's expensive to die. The salesperson was friendly and mostly respectful, although we could hear the misogyny when he spoke to my husband directly, and not his sister, who was actually handling all the business. Don't like that. But he accommodated all of our simple requests without fuss. Besides the oldschool mentality of our salesperson, it was a fine place to spend a couple hours talking about a dead person.

In summary: Authentically-Caring, Attuned to Our Unique Desires followed through with Detail-Oriented Execution My Dad passed away just prior to the Christmas holiday and during the Snowstorm of the Century -certainly not the best timing. From my first phone call with Samantha Burke, her compassionate tone and patience with my numerous phone calls was superb. General Manager, Tim Summerford, took care of us like we were his own family and he made the Arrangement process comfortable, and respectful and put my family at ease. When it came time to do the printing, on the day before Christmas Eve, Amy Thompson stayed late -despite the treacherous weather & road conditions, She pleasantly accommodated my interminable revisions and she even caught a mistake that I made. She ensured everything was done on time despite it being a holiday weekend. On Christmas Eve day, with the roads still treacherous, Erica Simmer showed authentic care about our situation, from the moment I walked in. Her calming demeanor and easygoing responsiveness to my multiple last-minute requests lightened my burden immensely, during a time when I had millions of thoughts going through my head. On the day of the service, Tim Summerford, Tom Townsend, Laura Morrissey, John Desmond, and Bill Frazier all made sure the Visitation, Viewing and Funeral Mass went so smoothly that our family did not have to think of anything. All of our last-minute requests were met with the quiet confidence and responsiveness of a five-star concierge. My Mom, who does the funeral coordination at her Parish, said "everything was perfect." and I would agree. Afterward, they provided a Compassion Help Line, to help with the grieving process at no cost. Funeral services are not something most of us shop for every day. I hope in some small way this enables you to make an informed and wise decision, to select the team at Pixley Funeral Home for one of the most important days of your life, whether you are planning ahead or have an immediate need. I strongly suggest you plan ahead. It makes a world of difference.

They did a great job of making sure everyone knew how to discuss what had happened with the grandchildren, they were helpful but stayed out-of-the way during a long and busy visitation (helped with coats, kept coffee pots in the rear room full, answered questions, were happy to fix the decendent's hair to look more like his everyday style -- then on the day of the funeral they did a great job of getting the cars lined up for the processional, and stored the plants and flowers for the family while we went to the graveside for the military honors while also setting up the visitation room for another family and kept everything running smoothly). We had several children and it was very helpful to have the rear room to keep them busy while the adults were grieving in the chapel. Altogether ... just an absolute class act.
