Disappointing last experience. Ordered Magret de canard and red chicken curry for take-out…read more Both meals were heavy and uninspiring - almost complete lack of meaningful vegetables in either dish and A LOT of meat. Plenty of meat might sound good, but when you find yourself with a plate dominated by large pieces and not much else but the sauce and plain rice, it's hardly an amazing culinary experience. Both of us left our meals half eaten and felt disappointed. Upon looking online (outside of Yelp), I see plenty of people have noted the vegetable scarcity that apparently affects Bois Savanes...what a pity they don't take notice given the amount of competition out there. In the past I've enjoyed going there for lunch - welcome service and nice setting. The food was always fine; nothing remarkable but the Schuman area isn't exactly full of choice considering the potential client base...

I've tried a few of the Thai curries, some of the soups and the odd fried bits and pieces. Generally satisfying, I'd recommend for lunch but might not go as far as saying you should head over for dinner or a weekend treat. Good yes, but not a challenger to some of the more household names in town. Look and feel is correct considering this use to be a sandwich bar, so they've done a reasonably good job converting the place into something decent. Service is passable, and one can forgive that considering the lunchtime rush (in fact you'll probably need to book to make sure you get a table). Pricing is also very reasonable, with a business lunch (starters and main) and drinks for no more than 20 euros. Oh, and if you like things with a bit of a bite, they will spice it up if you ask.

Five stars for the food. Three for speed. Friendly service, but this is a busy delivery restaurant…read more If your want your food fast, order for delivery. Very tasty dishes. All very fresh. Some spicy. Many not. Pricey for the amount of food you get. But the quality is high.

You head to the nearest Thai/Viet/Asian restaurant you can find, even if that means somewhere in the European Quarter of Brussels! Saigon-Bangkok isn't exactly Viet-Siam fusion cuisine. It's more like some Viet dishes mixed with Thai dishes in a menu written in French. I had to admit, I was overwhelmed. What type of Asian dish is cassoulet de poulet avec lemongrass??? How could I be so lost? I mean, I speak 4 different Asian menu languages! In desperation, I ordered the two items I did recognize: tom yom goong, nem and a chaser of jasmine tea for the exorbitant price of 3 euro. Winning me over right off the bat, Saigon-Bangkok offers a basket of fish and prawn crackers to chomp away on as you nervously read a menu you don't understand. And I mean it was a HUGE basket. I feel like I ate a good 5 euros worth before I even got my order in. - The tom yom (6 euro) came out piping hot, which on a cold winter day in Brussels was a welcome event. While this was more of a cup than a bowl, the soup was chock a block of mushrooms and shrimp, although I could have done without the red and green pepper pieces. A bit flat, I requested a small dash of fish sauce which spruced up the soup perfectly. I would return to that fish sauce over and over again. - The nem (6.5 euro) - 4 to an order - were well spiced and full of porky goodness. It's the middle of winter in northern Europe, so I kind of forgave the one or two rot spots on an otherwise healthy serving of salad leaves. Nuoc plam and rooster sauce at my side, the nem filled the bill at a very reasonable price. Overall, my lunch was way better than I would have expected. I have heard comments from the Belgians that unlike the Asian eateries in Germany or France, the ones here do not try to adapt to local palates as much. What I appreciated was that on request, my kind of white person Asian lunch could easily be doctored back to normal, and in Brussels, if you can get out of a restaurant at only 15 euro for luch you are doing good.

We first tried to eat here on a Thursday evening, but when we arrived there was a 25-minute wait if you had not made a reservation. It was raining that day, so we opted to just find another place to eat. The following evening (Friday), we had a bit more time to prepare so we made a reservation with them at 6 p.m. The layout of the restaurant is somewhat unusual. You enter in a small space (which may have had a couple of tables at sidewalk-level, but I'm not sure). You then climb a half-flight of stairs up past a kitchen area to the main dining room. Here they had several tables along each wall extending towards the back, where they had an additional 2 - 3 tables. We sat in the back. If the weather is nice, they may have a couple of tables out on the sidewalk, but again I'm not certain of that. If anyone in your party is disabled, you may have a limited seating option. That wasn't an issue for us, though. Where we sat in the back, we got to watch them prepare the cocktails. The place was busy but our server kept checking on us. Our drinks came out fairly quickly. The entrees took a bit longer, but the timing was still reasonable. I got a noodle dish which was quite good. The portion was reasonable and I finished it. I think both the others in our party got soup-noodle combinations which they also liked. The place appeared to be a family-run business (potentially). The staff managed the crowd well. Though you need to plan ahead a bit, the meal here was worth it. If I were back in Brussels, I'd consider returning here for a meal.

I tried the fried butterflied shrimp as well as shrimp dumplings to start with and it was fantastic. The soups are amazing (Thai pho and Laska). Entrees are at the €8 range while the main dishes and soups at the 12-14€ depending on the "protein" (as they refer to it... being chicken or tofu or shrimp) chosen. Fantastic price quality. My favourite Asian so far.
