He went to a couple different ones and would swear he should have waited to visit Upland Barber Shop. He would complain that other barber shops are very gimmicky and he felt like he didn't fit in, or often felt uncomfortable in the chair. I went with him yesterday for the first time and the shop was old school and had good vibes. Each barber had their own station in front and they were smiling and talking with each other. There was beautiful art on the walls, it was a really nice shop. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays, but not a big deal. Alex cut my husband's hair and he killed it. My husband looked handsome as ever. :) We live in the Riverside area now so we made a trip out yesterday before a family event this weekend. If you're in the Upland/Montclair/Ontario area, it's absolutely worth the visit.

I don't mind someone learning, but I did find it unprofessional when my barber smoked a golden, oval-shaped weed vape twice. Once at the start when he offered me a hit, and then another rip once I told him what I wanted, to "activate my creativity". The cut was actually going well after he repeated back to me exactly what I wanted and I was hyped with them. There were some longer strands of hair I had him separate in the front to have two longer strands I could manipulate with my hairstyle but at some point in the creative process the two strands that were separated and crucial to the look I was going for were mixed in with the rest of my hair and those longer strands disappeared,; hair that I'd grown to the tip of my nose was chopped to the top of my brow. I actually hadn't even noticed until after I went home to wash my hair because they put gel product in it, which I hadn't asked for but thought it was for a before and after pic so I let it slide, but I was already feeling very uncomfortable and wanted to leave to wash it off immediately at home after I had told him in the beginning that I only used natural products to style it!. And he confirmed by saying "oh, so you only use natural products to style it? " As it came out, yeah I could say it looked good but missing the signature I was hoping for The saving grace was being able to come back to adjust it again the next day but again they put product in my hair that I did not ask for or approve, this time it was a texture powder. Product hides the details I was looking for to realize I wasn't satisfied with the cut before I left. You get what you pay for rings true, but there should at least be a standard of not being under the influence when still in a learning position.

He took the time to understand what I was looking for and helped explain specifically what to ask for in case I go other places and can still get a somewhat consistent cut.
