I have never had so much fun getting my hair cut! Ever! The person that has been cutting my hair for several years now was unavailable and I decided to check out reviews on Yelp. I am really picky about who I let do my hair because my hair is thinning a bit and the person I normally go to does miracles with my hair. After seeing some of the reviews my wife and I decided to check this place out. We are so happy we did. Spending time with Cindy and her mom was like spending time with family. Thelma and Cindy have always done a fantastic job cutting my hair. I have developed a reputation as the "hairy monster" who returns only after multiple months for another cut. While I have a tendency to let my hair grow-out, they do such a great job here that it continues to look well and behave manageably over-time after each visit, which is hard for me to say about other barbers. This barber shop is very relaxed and cozy- Last time I went they gave me some coffee and carrot cake while waiting for my turn. One interesting note is that they frequently use a straight-razor for a finer shave, which you rarely see elsewhere. I'm writing this as I bask in the afterglow of a perfect cut. You know that feeling when you get a fresh cut, but it's the perfect cut, the cut where you look in the mirror like, "I was about to start shaving my head bald...but..." or "I should just shave this damn beard off... WHAT THE F WAS I THINKING!!?" THAT feeling. I am feeling this, and so I'm writing. I have gotten cut by Thelma twice, and today I was cut by Cyndi. All three times, I have left satisfied, but today I left reinvigorated. I left with that feeling, like, "damn I wish I had somewhere to be." I think it's because she hooked my beard up, I'm not sure, but damn, I feel good. Plus she splashed me up with some sweet Suavecito clove aftershave and even my daughter, who revels in dissing me, LOVED it. This review is long over due! My husband was buzzing/"BIC-ing" his head for a few years straight, but he started to grow it out last year. He was maintaining it himself those first few months his hair started growing in. It got to that point where it was getting super long tho and he needed a barber STAT. He went to a barber (a popular cheap chain) not too far from where we live to get it cleaned up. As his wife, I should have stopped him. I knew better not to trust those chain locations with my husband's hair. It was a disaster! He asked for a simple clean up and they gave him a high fade...think military cut. He almost shaved his head again lol. It's kind of funny because he's a veteran, and he never had a military cut, even when he was serving lol. He just shaved his head. We learned our lesson and knew never to go back to one of those places ever again. After this incident, he waited a few months to grow it out, then turned to me for my yelp skills ;D. That's where Cindy comes in. I turned to my trusty Yelpers to find a reliable barber who wouldn't screw up my husband's hair. He was injured while serving in Iraq and went through numerous skull surgeries. He's got a pretty gnarly scar on the left side of his head, and this always screws barbers up. I did so much research, reading TONS of reviews from here in Fontana, all the way out to Riverside and SGV. There were plenty of horrible reviewed shops, and there were plenty 5 star rated ones too. What made Cindy stand out was the style that we saw in all her photos, and how almost all the reviews talked about how this place was more like a family, not just a regular old barber shop. Plus, this shop 100% supports military. Can't say no to that. So, I booked him an appointment and here we are. My husband actually had 2 visits with Cindy already. The first appointment was amazing. I'll be honest, when I read the reviews about this place being like a family, I thought reviewers were exaggerating. After my husband's first visit with her, he confirmed the truth behind it. Cindy knew exactly what he wanted and she truly made him feel at ease. He literally walked out of her shop with a bounce to his step. You see commercials of women walking out the salon, wind in their hair, feeling like a million bucks. Well, I found out that day that men can walk out their barber shops feeling that way too lol. By the second appointment, our daughter was calling Cindy, "Mama Cin!", and once again, an amazing appointment. So, if you're looking for a barber, look no further! Cindy is the best! I've been coming to Cindy for over a year now and she's ALWAYS hooked it up with a good clean cut. See, I'm Mexican and Spanish with curly and wavey hair and it's hard for a lot of people to cut it if it isn't straight because everyone out here trying to look the same. Me, it has to be a certain way that works with my big ol noggin and Cindy has been, and continues, to cut it perfectly. The first great thing about Carlo Barber Shop is that it was open early in the morning. That was major selling point for me. I was going to have a job interview that day and I unfortunately procrastinated on getting a haircut for it.
