Many of my friends lived in the notorious (in a good way) apartments across the street from the Simon Benson House and kitty corner to the Old Church. They explored the old house and related the incredible detail and materials which could never be recreated today. They were founders of the group that lobbied for years, ultimately successfully, for the home to be saved and restored. Sadly that friend perished in a freak drowning accident in Oaks Bottom before the building could be moved. So I always think of the restored home as a memorial to her. read more
