Scott and his associates Ross and Rob took their time to make sure my taxes were done right every time. Fast forward a couple years and I went to a VERY well known tax company to do my taxes in NYC, figuring since it was where I lived now I should try to find an accountant there. They completely butchered my taxes to the point where I (who knows nothing about taxes) even knew something was wrong. Had I not gone back to Ross at Scott White I would've been audited up the wazoo. They not only completely redid and fixed my return, they gave me advice on how to get my money back from the other company who did such a negligent job. I again this year tried to find an accountant in NY (to save them from having to deal with my annoying taxes). 5 days before the tax deadline (today! ha!) that accountant told me my taxes were too complicated and he no longer wanted to work with me. As you could imagine, Scott, Ross and Rob were at the peak of tax season absolute craziness and STILL agreed to help me, take on my return, AND get it filed in time. You can't get a more honest group of guys who work their butts off to help you and get you the best return. I highly recommend this company.

TLDR: If you have a very basic tax return or if you are someone who is so wealthy that you often…read morefind people bending over to kiss your feet, Chuck King may provide adequate tax services. If you're anywhere in between, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I was reluctant to write this review because Chuck actually seems like a nice guy who probably got some bad advice from a business magazine in 1987 and took it as gospel--the advice being something along the lines of focusing on wealthy people or people who can do the most for you in return and not wasting much time on the "small folk". That may have worked 25 years ago, but isn't a great philosophy in the Internet age where everyone has a voice. I made an appointment to file my annual taxes with Chuck at least a month and a half before the April 15th deadline. The appointment went pretty well for the most part. He seemed friendly enough and confident in his abilities. My return had a small handful of complications that made it a bit more involved than a basic filing, but nothing earth shattering. There were about 3 or 4 things Chuck needed to research how to file before we finalized the return. That is totally fine. Tax law is complicated and I don't expect professionals to have all of the answers offhand. He told me we could leave things 98% complete and he would figure out how to tie up the loose ends later and confirm with me once everything was complete. He offered to let me pay when the taxes were filed, but I opted to pay on the spot. I'm not sure if this had any impact on what transpired next. It started off normal at first. Chuck would call me to check in every two days or so to inform me of his progress on closing out the open items on my filing. Then he began to go dark on me. I started having to call him for updates. He was not apologetic at all--he was actually frustrated that I was bothering him by checking in on a service that I paid for but didn't receive. He told me his methodology is as follows: for every filing he can't complete on the spot, he puts it into a pile towards the back of his office. When he has downtime, he works on the outstanding items in order from "most important client" to "least important client". These are his words, not mine. As you may have guessed, I was a very low priority/low income client to him and he made that very clear numerous times. To make a long story short(er), I went through a series of very painful emails, phone calls and in-person visits with Chuck to get my filing pushed through. The weaker I was on the phone, the more he tried to bully me, but once I started to (mildly) berate him a bit, he seems to regain some sense and started to act. Some people to respond better to scolding than gentle pushing, and Chuck seems to be one of those guys unfortunately. Chuck literally dragged this out until the 11th hour. Even though my appointment was relatively early in tax season, I had to go to his office the day of the deadline to ensure he filed it. And I had to take the initiative to show up--he certainly didn't seem that concerned about it (after all, I make peanuts--why would the IRS care about me?). Look I get it. People make mistakes. People are busy. People don't have all the answers. But what makes it worse in Chuck's case is that he was never apologetic about it for one second. There was never a "sorry you had to chase me down for the last 6+ weeks" or a "I swear, the service here is much better than this". I just felt like I was bothering him the whole time. I really wanted to like Chuck and there were many times I would look at him and see the "good guy" in him. I don't think his accounting skills are inadequate or that he was out to get me. But unfortunately for him, you can't put someone through what he put me through and be considered "good at your job". One star.

He was patient and reassuring and I never felt judged for how disorganized I was. He totally saved me, and since then, whenever thorny tax issues have come up, Al and his team have been there for me. When people ask me if I know a good accountant, I tell them I know the best accountant in Boston, and to drop everything and call Al. Multiple times, those people have come back to me and said, "I can't thank you enough for telling me about Al Amir. He's completely saved me." So, let me say the same to you... If you're looking for an accountant, drop everything and call Al. You won't regret it, I promise. And years later, when people ask if you know a good accountant, you'll be able to "save the day" for them too by telling them to get in touch with Al & his team.

I was met on the phone with rushed condescending questions one after another by the man claiming to "having 20 people on hold" and "Im already taking up too much of his time at 7minutes, because he only ever spends 5 min on any phone call" after he asked about my situation which I had flat out explained was a bit complicated due to my Mother being very ill & I really needed guidance figuring out taxes with my family inheritance. He interrupted me on a very short call by cutting me off and demanding fast answers which I started the conversation by saying it was complicated. I was confused. His demeanor was unbelievable, and hard to believe he has any experience and especially with 5 star reviews. I would have been happy to pay him for his precious time yet he repeatedly told me verbatim "I only give 5 min on the phone". I told him thank you for your help and closed the call. I need advice on gift tax Im receiving from my 80yr old dying mother after selling a family home. Im not asking for anything free. I told him Id be happy to pay, even. He could have set up an appointment or said if its too complicated to call a different accountant. He did not. I hate writing bad reviews. I rarely do. I did call back to tell him I was going to do so, and was in tears because My baby died and am living in poverty right now waiting on a large sum of money in a 300sqft apartment due to having to sell my home(which I told him)& REALLY need help with the taxes & what to do. Im shaking writing this review. Im a nice person who is struggling to go day to day. Perhaps he is only getting reviews for helping others with their tax returns. That is fine, but he could have just taken a few minutes to tell me he was ill-equipt and maybe even steer me in the correct direction. If you need a person that is caring and can give you more than 5 minutes on a call, This is not your person. You can't treat people in a way that makes them literally break down when you are a professional and be apathetic about the loss of a baby and needing to get the money & tax info and it taking more than 5 min. Just remember you never know what people are going through & you as a professional need to listen & take the time to set up an appointment or refer them to someone more competent. Im trying so hard and this 7 minute call was nothing but a slap in my face. I could and would never treat another human this way. Sometimes things are more difficult than you can handle & that is perfectly fine, but 7min is not "far too long" and lying about having "20 people on hold" to someone in a vulnerable place, it shouldn't be difficult to just be human. Can't we treat each other with kindness and compassion? Here the answer is clearly, NO

Mark told me what documents I would need, including returns from the preceding 2 years. He submitted amended returns for my previous 2 years and got me refunds on both. He then filed my current return and although we did owe some money, I now had much higher confidence in the accuracy of the filed returns, both federal and state. Since that first year, our situation has continued to grow in complexity and I no longer worry when tax time comes 'round. I fill out Mark's annual summary survey and return along with my receipts and am amazed that I typically get back my completed return, ready to file, in just a few days. Though we have had a few years where we owed money on our returns, this year (2021) was very tough for my wife and me. I had a job change and my wife had 2 job changes, we sold our house and moved from MA to NH. Coupled with some 401K rollovers, and our tax situation was even more confusing and beyond my ability to manage. Mark, again, looking closely at all options, found us a surprisingly large refund for the year. I was thrilled this filing season to learn that Mark will be able to continue filing our Federal and MA returns even though we have moved out of state.
