I love this traditional bakery. There is a young lady there who has a smile for everyone and brightens everyone's day. The bread is absolutely delicious- especially their Sourdough! read more

It's a also a cafe, and you can have breakfast, but the baked goods are what it's all about. For me, it's the pain au raisin. It's so wonderfully baked. Crispy shell, tender dough, plump raisins. After coming here a few times, I finally got the breakfast. Perfectly cooked eggs, delicious mushrooms, bacon (pancetta) and fresh bread. The service is great. It's such a good local neighborhood bakery. Come here! You'll enjoy it.
So many amazing breads and pastries! Breakfast was great as well if you are really hungry.

Every time I come to St Albans I have to make a stop off at Pudding Stop…read more I've been here twice now and time and time again the Cakes have been delicious. Pudding stop has bench style seating, so you may have to get used to the fact that you may be sitting with strangers and possible their babies. I tend to come in the late afternoon so the ambience is rather chilled out to my liking. I've ordered the Devon Cream Tea,(£6) which they give you bottomless tea in a teapot with cup and tea strainer. The scone is soft and fluffy and so perfect, and with generous lashings of clotted cream and jam which adds to the divinity of this British classic. Carrot cake is moist and not too sweet...just right. Chocolate flourless cake was a moist sticky chocolate gooeyness which needed some single cream to compliment it, but still throughly enjoyed. The staff are attentive and friendly. Their is free wifi also they have classic movie evenings.

Not as keen on the other vegetarian cheese pasties as they are a little too cheesy and could give an unsuspecting punter third degree burns. Had a wonderful breakfast today only slightly spoiled by the fact that we missed the boards with the full breakfast menu to choose from and we just selected from what was available on the counter. Anyway, now we know and we will be back. Beautifully sunny spot on an autumn day. One culinary point, your chefs should head to the Nordic Bakery on Golden square and sample their cinnamon buns for a few tips, they are vastly superior. Look forward to breakfast again soon. Monday 28th October Who would have thought, back so soon and such a change. My wife went back for breakfast one day later with the kids as they are on half term. She described the porridge as "made by someone who has never eaten porridge", dry and lumpy. when she went back to the counter to order something else the staff just studiously ignored her, so she didn't buy anything. How can the service be so changeable. Maybe the weekend staff get it and the week day staff just don't.

I think it had been about 15 minutes since I ordered, and while it was busy, that's a LONG time for coffee to arrive. The other pastries looked amazing too though, and they have a nice view of the cathedral through their large windows that make you feel surrounded by greenery. I would go back here at a quieter time, or I'd just pick up some pastries.
