For the last twelve months, all I've heard out of my boyfriend's mouth is 'Oh, I can't wait to go…read morehave another Westernport Parma'. I am pleased to announced that he had it again and it didn't disappointed. I'm displeased to announce that he has started going on about how good it's going to be to get another one in January 2016 *groan* I love this pub. It really caters to everyone with it's large menu, varied dining areas and huge selection of drinks from the bar. There are big name acts that roll through town to play gigs to entertain the older crowd, and there is a small play centre to entertain the youngest in the crowd. There is inside seating and outside seating (with heaters for the colder months). The staff are friendly and really welcoming to the tourists, which might not be surprising for most but I've stepped into some small town pubs who want nothing to do with you if you're not a local. Definitely not the case here. The dining room caters to large and small groups but it's always best to book ahead for groups larger than 6 so that you can get your hands on the huge table designed to fit roughly 20. Enjoy! I know I have over the past two years.

Every now and then you find a pub in a small town that is an absolute gem. The Westernport is in…read moresuch a great location on the waterfront in San Remo and it's surprisingly large. There's a huge bistro offering a generous menu. You'll pay around $25 for a meal but you'll get a big serving plated beautiful and the food is delicious. The boys in our group all got the HUGE Westernport parma and the girls had to listen to their groans of delight as they polished them off. I opted for the salt & pepper calamari because I saw it being plated up as I was waiting to order and it looked divine. And it wasn't just presented beautifully, it was SO tasty. Light and fresh, no chewy or stringy bits, and just like the parma the serving was so generous I couldn't finish it. There's a large bar and beer garden too. Pints are about $10 and spirits are $8.50. And bands play every Saturday night including big names such as The Beautiful Girls and 360. If you're heading to Phillip Island for a weekend away I definitely recommend trying the Westernport for lunch or dinner and admiring the scenery.

BIG4 Phillip Island Caravan Park

BIG4 Phillip Island Caravan Park

Let me just set the scene for everyone here - there's about 10-12 of us aged from mid twenties to early thirties having a few drinks, talking and laughing but not being rowdy or partying. On Friday night after the communal kitchen area closed we decided to head down to the beach away from the caravan park so we didn't disturb the rest of the guests. We headed back to camp after an hour of so and were confronted by the park manager, a man in his 60s, who cursed at us 'What are you doing? Go back to bed!' and actually kicked one of our friends in the backside on the way past. We couldn't believe it! The next morning he came to our campsite to confront us again, saying that if we weren't in bed early tonight he would be calling the police. I just want to pause a minute to reinforce the fact that we understand that a group of loud and rowdy teenagers having a party at a caravan park is not what you want when you're another guest trying to enjoy your time away but that's really not the sort of crowd we were. We're obviously wanting to enjoy ourselves but we're entirely respectful of the other patrons. So on Saturday evening we all headed across the bridge to one of the pubs for the night. One of our friends decided she wasn't really up for it and headed back to camp early. Later that evening we got a call from her to say that the park manager woke her up to reinforce the threat 'if your friends come back loud and drunk I'm calling the police'. He actually woke her up to say that. Unbelievable! We all went back to camp at different times throughout the night but surely enough when we walked in we had the torch shined in our faces and were scowled at on the way past. On Sunday morning when we asked him about waking our friend and threatening us he actually denied that it had happened because there was a camera crew around filming for one of those travel shows. Later on I ended up reading a couple of reviews (on other websites) about other people that had a very similar experience to us. This place is the absolute pits!

I have to admit, we didn't have an absolutely horrible time, like the previous person did. The reception staff at the check in desk were quite pleasant and helpful, although they were a bit irritated at the phones ringing constantly. The 2 bedroom Caravan were in was OK, it of course was a bit on the small side and if we had to share it with someone other than our two kids, I think we would have treading a bit too close to each other to the point of not being comfortable. The lounge area/dining area/kitchen was all very compact but definitely helped having the stove to make food in so we weren't spending as much money on food. We were able to make breakfast at our own pace (mainly between 6 and 7 AM because the kids were wide awake). We didn't experience much noise after the times that were listed on the paperwork that we had to stay quite which was amazing, although we did get woken up at about 6 am on our last morning there by some lovely possums playing on the roof of the caravan. There's heaps of rabbits hopping around the grounds as well and these little black water birds that are wandering around too. The beach access is an amazing addition, although its just a little bay area where the water is and a little bit of sand. Worked perfectly for playtime with the kids where the water wasn't trying to drag them under. We didn't get a chance to play on the playground or the pillow but our friends kids did get a chance to ride in the little cars you can rent out there with pedals. All in all, I think we had a great time there but being as there's so much to do on Phillip Island, we weren't at the caravan park too much!
