Our son Alex has been attending the rally school for a few months. Each day is fully planned, with varied skills being worked on. As well as basic car control, he has learned procedures in case of an accident during a rally stage, how to change a wheel, and a good part of each class is held in the classroom discussing topics such as positioning and control.
Of course, the big part of each day is the driving. there are generally no more than 6 pupils there each time, and with two cars and two instructors they all get a good period of time behind the wheel.
different times of the year mean they have experienced wet and dry surfaces, and one class started later in the day so they could experience driving in the dark. The two Ford Ka's he has been using are fitted with dual controls to get the beginners off to a good start.
We find that all the pupils, and their parents, are a very sociable and supportive group. Andy and John are extremely knowledgeable, skilful drivers, but also able to educate in a very entertaining, easy manner.
And, it has to be said, the back office organisation is very slick. With timely emails, and scheduled dates all flagged well in advance. That organisation, and the simple but tasty meals, are all provided by Dorne.
There are various experiences available, as well as the junior rally school, so do go along and try it out. they are a very pleasant and experienced team, who certainly give value for money. If you think it is expensive, just look at what their vehicles have to put up with, and still be kept in order for eveyone to turn up and drive. read more
