So over the past 10 years I've stayed here roughly 5-6 times. I can say that I have never had a bad experience! For a hotel that has minimal amenities it's one of my favorite places to stay! Located right near the alphabet district in Northwest Portland, it is quite literally within walking distance to so many restaurants and shops. You can eat at a variety of restaurants and shop to your hearts content at a bevy of local boutiques and stores. One of my favorite coffee/pastry shops La Honore Boulangerie is located just down the street from the Silver Cloud. The beds are my favorite thing about the Silver Cloud. I don't know how they are different from every other hotel, but my god they are divine. It's amazing to me that even on a busy night, the rates remain pretty decent. I checked out the Nines, the Hilton and the Benson on a Friday, Saturday night and the rates are outrageous. But those same days, and the rates at the Silver Cloud are so affordable! I booked my night at the Silver Cloud on a Saturday night on Priceline and made the mistake of not double checking the date I had booked for. I strolled into the hotel to check in and was promptly told that my reservation was made for the 26th of April. Ha! Silly me. The front desk manager was so amazing and swiftly took to his computer and told me that he could book me for the last room that they had available for that night and on top of it all, keep my rate that Priceline had me down for. Now that is customer service! He could've easily sent me out the door and saved that room for a full rate customer, but he accommodated my stupid ass and saved me from scrambling to book a room elsewhere. OMG did I mention the bed??? I had a king sized bed all to my 4'11" frame to dominate and their shower is a bath tub shower! I soaked in my first hot bath in years! Most hotels seem to assume that no one bathes anymore, so they're all fitted with the stand up showers which irks me to no end. I want a choice dammit! Lol. just kidding. first world problems. So remember, when booking your next stay in Portland, the Silver Cloud is conveniently located in NW near the 405 freeway, and more importantly near all the good restaurants! read more

Wow. Great staff! Free parking! Free breakfast! Free Wi-Fi! Close to tons of restaurants (23rd area)! Clean and recently remodeled! Geez could it get better? Yes! They are reasonably priced and they even have a micro brew/wine reception on Tuesday evenings. The rooms are so up to date with tile showers, granite counters, Aveda products, 42" plasma tv's, new paint, new wallpaper, and new carpeting everywhere, they can definitely rival some hotels downtown. It looks like a brand new hotel. Truly relaxing and quiet. It doesn't look like much on the outside but the inside will blow your expectations out of the water. If you are wanting to stay near "Trendy 3rd", Nob Hill, great shopping, and over 50 restaurants... all within walking distance, then stay here. What a convenient, clean, comfortable, and affordable alternative to the downtown scene. Great people, nice property, free parking and great WiFi. Wife and I stayed one night for a quick trip to Portland for an early morning meeting and everything was excellent. The staff was welcoming and helpful, the beds were comfortable and the location was good for access both to the freeway and downtown. The Urban Steel Kitchen restaurant was excellent and were happy to have you dine in, pick up to take out or deliver direct to your room. We had both dinner and breakfast there and were very happy. The Silver Cloud was functional in a pinch, but failed to wow in most other ways. I got put in the Silver Cloud through Priceline. Most everything in the downtown region was booked, so I took a stab at NW Portland. $80 and I was in this 3 star spot on a holiday weekend. It's in a pretty cool part of town - right near an onramp to the 405 and at the end of the fun strip of 23rd. It's also next to a distillery that comes highly recommended, but I was unable to get to because of time constraints. The place has some nice things going for it. Free parking (always a nice surprise in a big city), free breakfast (that we didn't try), and a generally comfy bed. Downsides were certainly present too. There was a huge gap between our door and the floor making it so sound traveled very easily both ways. The kitchen smelled kind of like vinegar when we arrived (why? I'm no help at that question). The furniture was real uncomfortable. And finally, the aforementioned free parking was completely full when we came back to the room late at night. After a series of very awkward 7 point u-turns in the parking garage, we parked in the readily available street parking. A good night's sleep was had, and while that's what matters most, there is a lot of work to be done on everything else. read more

LUCKY PLAN-B I'm picky about my lodging. I typically stay in a Hilton or a Hyatt. I just like a certain predictable standard. The Hilton properties in the downtown area were all booked on the days I was visiting, so I took a gander on Yelp to see what lodgings close to downtown were favorable rated. Silver Cloud Inn came up smelling like a rose. I was very pleased with my experience. The staff was helpful from reservations through checkout. The accomodations are like the top tier Best Western. Nothing super fancy, but clean and updated. They had free wi-fi, free parking and free breakfast. The location is great...at the end of the Alphabet district. Lots of shopping and dining a short walk away. Convenient to bus transportation too. I'd stay here again. read more

Great hotel on the edge of where the industrial area starts. Very quiet. There is free parking, free wifi, nice check in desk (with friendly front desk people) and a clean property. The cleaning crew is extremely nice to you when you walk through the halls. I was surprised to see that the skincare items they put in the bathroom is Aveda (great brand for a reasonable priced hotel). If you have a room on the back of the building you get a great view of the hills. read more

We stayed here in a pinch on a Friday and Saturday night recently [camping in the rain? no thanks] We called directly and got a $99 rate for each night [one king bed], and checked in 15 minutes later. Located right off the 405, it's easy-access from the highway [Heading north on the 405, follow signs for hwy 30 to the left, which will take you right to NW Vaughn St], and at the edge of the NW district, so an easy jaunt into the neighborhood. Clean and roomy, it exceeded expectations--Aveda shampoos!-- Hot continental breakfast with waffles!! I have visited the Silver Cloud about 7+ years ago and they have come a long way from the 80's Mauve colored palate and Formica counters. They have their granite counters, tiled showers with Aveda (yay!!) products, specially made beds that are not quite firm and not mushy soft. Each room has a 42" flat screen mini fridge and microwave. OK, on business they have free Wifi and (according to sales rep) a hard wire hub in 96% of their rooms. Gotta love that. Free parking, a Managers reception with beer, wine and catered food on Tuesday evenings. Love that there is a complimentary breakfast that is not just pastry but eggs and bacon and waffles too. Oh yea. They are in the alphabet district on NW Vaughn 2 blocks from the infamous NW 23rd street. It is an adventure just walking from Vaughn to Burnside on 23rd stopping in at all the little shops and eateries. Then pop over to 21st and go back and forth too. That alone can be a day adventure. They also have easy freeway access to 405. read more

It is fairly clean and modern, double queen room was average space wise and the location was accessible and where we wanted to be in Portland. However our complaints were the noise. Walls are thin and therefore noise from adjacent rooms and hallway easily felt and heard. Based on this alone why I rate it below average, esp for the price. read more

Free day passes to the city trolley (meh, don't remember the exact name), which we found useful to head to Powell's Books and then walk to the Saturday Market near the river. The breakfast was excellent. Scrambled eggs, sausage, a good choice of cereals, yogurt, teas & coffee, and a waffle maker! This is definitely my hotel of choice when I come to Portland. read more

The hotel was relatively clean with nice beds and sheets. However we had a frightful time with cigarette smoke and noise. We asked for a quiet room, but the floor above had very squeaky floorboards and the person in that room seemed to be pacing. Also the smell of cigarette smoke came wafting into our room shortly after we arrived and lasted for hours. When we asked the staff about it, they merely apologized and said 'that can happen.' For a non-smoking room, in Portland, we expected much better than this, and much better response from the support staff! We won't be staying there again. read more

We had the room w/ the accompanying fluorescent Denny's sign outside the window, and it really wasn't a big deal at night with the shades drawn. Very clean, contemporary hotel. Rooms are a little small, but the location is walkable to the Trailblazers arena and a Starbucks right outside the door. Very good value for travelers! Only negative is the mandatory valet parking and 0 ground clearance on the ramp leading up to the valet area. read more

Really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It's very sweet - the staff is awesome, it's clean, the free breakfast is pretty good (hot scrambled eggs, sausage, plus a daily other hot item, plus cereal, yogurt, etc), 24 hr coffee and tea service, free wifi, and a huge, free, parking lot for those travelling with vehicles! That's a nice plus, as hotels usually charge an arm and a leg for parking in cities. It's right on the edge of the Pearl/Alphabet district so it's close to the awesome 23rd street shopping area. You could walk. It's just not smack dab in the middle of it all. Oh and free laundry machines and dryers!!! You bring the detergent or buy some from the front desk. Bed Bugs. I have stayed at this hotel when traveling for work several times (8-12 nights in two years). It has been my little home away from home. Unfortunately, on my last stay, 1/26/15-1/28/15, I was attacked by bed bugs. I noticed something red on my arms, but didn't think much of it until I arrived back home Wednesday evening, to swollen, hard, itchy red bumps. That night it dawned on me that this could be a result of bed bugs. When I realized this, sadly after bringing all of my luggage, including my travel pillow into the house, I immediately called the hotel. A young woman, "K" took my call and politely dismissed my concerns, asked if I had allergies (maybe an allergic reaction?), and said they have never had any issues. Maybe this was true, regardless I didn't feel heard and demanding that someone inspect and call me back the following day. Supposedly this happened, and I received a voicemail from "J" (I believe front desk staff) and he stated that the Housekeeping Manager and another staff member "did a full inspection of my room (214) and there was no sign of any infestation and that he hoped I was feeling better". I called the hotel that evening to speak with the Front Desk Manager. Barb has always been very warm and great. I called the next day, Friday to speak with Barb to report the issue. She apologized for my experience with the previous experience and said she was going to inspect and get back to me. She did as she promised although her inspection didn't find anything but a ladybug. She stated that Terminex would be coming out to inspect. I sent her pictures of my bed bug bites to her cell phone upon request. On Saturday, I received a text stating that Terminex found bed bugs in room 214(lucky me) and my bites are consistent with bed bug bites. I understand Terminex treated the room I stayed in. I didn't confirm if other rooms were treated as well. I asked for a copy of the report and she stated that "corporate will be handling this issue Monday". This is not a cheap hotel. At $179+fees/taxes, two nights was approximately $400. I expect better from a nice reputable hotel. I am disappointed that I will not be staying at this hotel again. They have been a really great landing spot from travels to Portland. I do want to iterate, that the Office Manager was responsive and proactive and represented herself and her position well. Today, Monday 2/2/15, this issue remains unresolved and bed bug bites continue to appear. Anyone that has dealt with bed bugs knows the implications of a bed bug infestation. read more

We stayed at the Silver Cloud Inn in Bellvue, WA before making a quick trip to Portland. We liked the Silver Cloud Inn there so much that we canceled our reservation at a different, cheaper hotel and booked with Silver Cloud Inn Portland. The layout of the Portland location isn't as nice as Bellevue, but otherwise it's fine. Soaps, shampoo, and conditioner are all nice and work (more than I can say than other places). They lather and don't leave a film. The staff are friendly and they even have a huge bowl of hard candy in the lobby, just like the Bellevue location. This place had an assortment of mints and butterscotch as opposed to the jolly ranchers of Bellevue, which was a nice change since I like spearmint mints and my partner likes peppermint mints. The rooms are clean, and they even have the daily local paper waiting outside your door in the morning. Breakfast is nice and included in the price. Two kinds of waffle batter: regular and blueberry. The Bellevue location had cinnamon as an alternative so the second flavor seems to vary by location. They also have scrambled eggs and sausages. We had to fight for the sausages here because they were hosting a bunch of German martial artists for some competition, but they tried to keep up and kept making new ones. lol I'd recommend and would stay here or at any Silver Cloud Inn again. :) read more

So we were originally booked at the Park Lane Suites, but somehow they overbooked so they moved us to the Silver Cloud and comped our room. Nice little surprise. I had looked into the SC before but never stayed there because it seemed a little too far from the fun of 23rd and 21st St. Anyway, the place was nice, but not 4 star for me. Rooms were a little on the small side, and walls were quite thin. They still use the old polyester comforters on the beds...gross. Staff was super friendly though and it looked like they provided a free breakfast buffet (waffles, etc) but we opted to go out to Besaw's instead. The room was priced at $149, so for that rate it was definitely not a value. Glad I got a free chance to stay here and decide that I will now scratch it off of my list. read more

We stayed at this place for one night. The staff was very friendly and helpful! They allowed us to check in at 7am with no problems. The room was nice and comfy with a very big tv. There is also free breakfast, wifi and parking which is a huge plus!! The hotel is in walking distance of many restaurants, bars, and shops. The only drawback was that the floors seemed a bit thin and we could sometimes hear our upstairs neighbors. It wasn't bad enough for us to request a new room but I'm sure the staff would have been happy to accomodate us. read more

This hotel was recommended to us by a close friend that stayed at this hotel when visiting her son in college. The hotel borders a residential/industrial area, so it was very quiet. Yet it was within walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants. The hotel had multiple ports and outlets by the bed which was convenient for charging/using laptops and smartphones. My girlfriends and I stayed at Silver Cloud Inn for our book club get away weekend in Portland. Silver Cloud was a wonderful hotel! Clean, accommodating, well priced with free parking and breakfast! The staff were welcoming and friendly. We were able to walk to many of the sites in Portland (Powell's was less than a mile away) and a little farther was the Rose and Japanese Gardens. No extra charge for parking or in-room wifi and continental breakfast is included. Northwest Portland, where the hotel is located, is an upscale part of Portland. Staff were friendly. Parking was free. Room was bigger than expected. Bathroom was nice, for example, big toilet, (not those little ones they usually cram in hotel rooms), nice size shower tub too, and water gets nice and hot. TV in room was HUGE. Bed and pillows were perfect for me. Also, free breakfast was tasty and convenient. I had hot scrambled eggs, sausage, rosemary potatoes, and a fresh waffle. They seemed to have a good selection of grab-and-go stuff like yogurt, fruit, and pastries if you don't have time to sit and eat. Eating/lounge area was bigger than any hotel I've ever been to. Lots of seating and there were only 3 people in there on a Sunday morning! Location is around good food and coffee. I have never stayed with Silver Cloud before but I would definitely come back or check out their locations in Washington. Only bad thing was parking lot was a little cramped and hard to maneuver in some places, would be bad for big SUV's and trucks. read more

We wanted to stay an additional night in Portland, but literally everything was booked. We lucked out and found the Silver Cloud Inn on Priceline. The hotel is nice, it is not luxurious, but it is a good solid place to stay. It was fun to explore the alphabet district and the free parking was a huge bonus. We were upgraded to a deluxe king for the night and the room was very large. It was pretty standard as far as hotel rooms go - bed, TV, nice bathroom with a sink outside, couch, and desk. We had a great view of the parking garage, but no big deal. We slept soundly, although it is loud in the hall in the morning as people are leaving. The AC/heating unit also makes a good deal of noise at night and I ended up just shutting it off. They do have free wifi and free coffee in your room. We did wish that they had more outlets, we charged our electronics on the sink counter. Overall, not a bad place to stay if you are looking to explore a cool area of town and it features some great amenities. read more
