For those who have yet to try Uyghur cuisine, the closest I can describe it is a mix between Turkish and Chinese food, but more Turkish than anything.
And it's delicious.
This place is completely unassuming, definitely a hidden gem. Located on Port Rd, it's a bit out of the way but definitely worth the drive. Plus, don't you love getting food in the suburbs for once instead of always hanging out in the same old centrally-located places.
Both the exterior and interior decor are slightly grungy, but it adds to the rawness and authenticity of the place and provides a natural, unpretentious atmosphere. Often when hidden gems are revealed, word of mouth spreads, everyone starts coming here and it's the new cool place to be, they usually revamp and become just another restaurant on the market, then it's all ruined. So let's not do that shall we.
I'm not too sure whether this place is vegetarian friendly - whenever we come here we order lamb kebabs, and various other spicy meat dishes. I think the only thing vegetarian was tofu and even that was mixed with minced meat. Sorry guys! But check it out anyway, I could be wrong. I didn't really pay much attention to the vegetarian options, to be honest.
Let's see, what else. Home made noodles were delish. The prices are affordable, but some of the food is pricey because it is meant to be shared between at least two or three people. Most dishes here are warm and hearty, while others are spicy as! All the dishes are definitely rich in flavour and spice - so be prepared to exercise that palate!
For large groups, I'd recommend booking ahead. This place gets pretty packed with locals. read more
