It's full of wonderful pretty dresses that I really was desperate to try on. Until someone reminded me I didn't have any money. Spoilsports. The shop is very Greenwich. Those of you who know Greenwich well will understand that, but it basically means vintage-looking, but still darn well dressed without trying too hard. Which of course, is nigh on impossible to get right. Grrr. The best thing about the shop? Well it's there to hsout about new designers and work with them. I like that. They work with the Youth Support Trust and it feels like they're doing something good. So really, if I shop there, I'm helping people. Off I toddle to buy me a new dress

Fabulous little dress shop! I've spotted some Vivien of Holloway dresses in Camden Market before…read more(without knowing the brand) and really liked them so it was such a treat to find their store. It's about a 3 minute walk from Holloway Road tube station. The staff are very helpful and sweet, and not pushy at all. I saw a few styles that I liked on their website and wanted to try them out. One of the girls measured me and helped me pick out a few accessories to complete the look. (Note: their sizing is different from regular shop sizing. They have a measurement chart online). They don't have a lot of styles - rather they have a handful of very flattering dresses in many sizes and colours. I ended up leaving with a beautiful 1950's style swing dress, a bolero and a petticoat. Their petticoats are wonderfully made (no wonder they are Sam's brand, from the US)! They are made entirely of chiffon instead of netting so they are super soft but still beautifully fluffy and bouncy. Their dresses are very reasonably priced starting at £59.00 ($90 US) considering that they are all handmade in London and not some sweatshop in Asia. Everything is fully lined, with boning for support.

Definitely best for party wear and dressier items there is usually a good colour palette to choose from. Many items are embellished (rather than plain) with sequins and beading featuring as recurrent themes. It's a good shop to look-in when you're seeking a formal celebration dress or decorative top to dress-up simple trousers or jeans. One of my favourite items, bought a couple of years ago in the Winter sale, is a gorgeous tapestry-fabric, single- breasted coat, stylishly 'splattered' with pastel sequins. Clothes are quite well-made and generally finished with decent attention to detail. The fitting rooms in this shop are comfortable, spacious and attractive; located upstairs, they're great if you like your privacy and time to decide but can be awkward if you discover that you need another size or colour

I only went in once, but both the clothes and the service were a disappointment…read more Window-shopping, I spied a drop dead gorgeous slinky stretch satin cocktail dress. But our romance died on the sidewalk. In the dressing room, I found a stack of boxes the shop-keeper refused to move (despite an empty kitchen), large children's toys taking up the floor space, and most importantly, a dress with sub-par tailoring. The hems: messy. The fit: sloppy. It turns out the mannequin was pinned to within an inch of her life. The shopkeeper said they have a tailor who can customize all garments. The dress was in such shambles, I didn't want to risk it. He suggested another cut, and the skill level of the stitching was similar. For a premium price, I expect top-quality. What sticks with me the most was the shopkeeper's unpleasant attitude. Better to pop up a few minutes up the King's Road to a boutique that gets it right.

A few items needed just a little bit of adjustment but the alteration was offered along with a glass of water and a cup of coffee. Bonus! I did not spend that much and ended up with three beautiful dresses, a jacket and a coat.

For any brides-to-be having a freakout about finding THE dress, go to Fleur Bridal NOW! She saved…read moreme from having a total meltdown and I would not hesitate to recommend Fleur Bridal to anyone. So here's what happened: it was seven months before my wedding, which sounds like a lot of time but in wedding dress terms, that is pretty much down to the wire. I had tried on over 30 dresses and found absolutely nothing I would consider wearing. A friend who was getting married a few months before me had found her dress at Fleur so she took me there. The shop itself is decorated beautifully and with great style. Fleur is the owner, salesperson, stylist - everything! So you really do get a personalised service from someone who actually cares. It was the first bridal shop I went to where I immediately got a good vibe and knew I would be taken care of. I showed up in a sweatshirt and jeans and I swear after about five minutes of chit chat - not even discussing what I was looking for in a bridal dress - she pulled three dresses for me. And... I loved each of them! I felt so relieved and in about 30 minutes went from thinking I would be wearing a paper bag down the aisle to now not being able to choose between three! Fleur said - well I thought we needed to give you some dresses that reflected old Hollywood glamour from the 40s. Um, that was exactly what I wanted but I had not told her that. When I asked her how she knew that was the look that I wanted, she said she could just tell and knew those silhouettes would look best on me. This was my first clue that Fleur really knew what she was doing. My dress was made to measure so I had to go back a few times for measurements and alterations. This meant I spent a little more than I had originally budgeted for, but Fleur has dresses in lots of price ranges and will help you figure something out. The alterations process went smoothly and they didn't cost much more on top of the price of the dress All of the times I went into the shop, Fleur was so nice and excited and you could tell she really loves what she does - she even tries on all of the dresses so she can tell you how they feel and give you a better idea of the dress instead of just reading the label and telling you the material and cut. She's very supportive but will give you honest opinions. I've been in other bridal shops where the bridal assistants dropped hints that they thought I was too big for any of their dresses or that none of them were in my price range...but Fleur is SO not like that and it was very refreshing. After having such a positive experience with Fleur, that was when I went from stressed about everything to really excited. She doesn't have a website so you just have to call and make an appointment and stop by. I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed!

But I wanted that dress! The shop assistants were wonderful and ordered it in for me, it arrived the next Monday and I am now the proud owner of a lovely black dress and very very happy. Plus it was only £30, win! At the same time I picked up a Mothers Day gift, sorted. Totally recommend the place.
