It makes you feel well attended, to an extend that you forget how complicated running a restaurant is. It feels like natural smoothness. The space is grand and kind of a historical site. It has been serving food and spirits to the Antwerp community for a while. And that translates into a very present charm. And the food is great. All classic Belgium dishes are cooked here, and in an excellent way. As a visitor, it was a great way to be familiar to what Antwerp has been in the past, and how that keeps being part of its cultural ecosystem.

It is beautifully decorated with ornate chandeliers and really aggressively sized flower arrangements. The service was spectacular also. Our incredible waiter was super patient as my elderly parents who you would think literally haven't left the house in the last three years (because they pretty much haven't) struggled to order dinner for the first time in a minute. GF and I wanted to order something fitting for the ambiance and attempted to both order a Kir Royale however we were regrettably informed that they had run out of cassis for the evening. We went with the next best thing, champagne. My parents ordered wine. To start, GF ordered their asparagus "la flammade" (that was from memory and is probably wrong) which was white/albino asparagus topped with a parsley and hard-boiled egg concoction and swimming in butter. I am borderline with asparagus and this wasn't my favorite but other members of my party found it enjoyable. My dad ordered the shrimp croquettes for his appetizer which he very much enjoyed. For our mains, my mom and I both ordered the vegan version of their chicken fricassee with soy meat, mushrooms, and a really wonderful and tasty sauce. This was served with rice instead of the traditional version of the dish's frites. My Dad ordered the traditional version with chicken and also enjoyed his meal. He thought the white rice was PARMESAN CHEESE and put my rice on his lmao. GF ordered the Niçoise salad which she reports was "underwhelming". We started arguing by the time we were ready for dessert so decided to pay the bill and leave but honestly that place is so awesome inside I could live in that restaurant.

It seems like the menu changes quite often which I find intriguing.... I had a salad with something like babaganuosh (aubergine goo goodness). Everything tastes very fresh and well put together, my guess is that the raw ingredients are of great quality. The coffee was also better then usual! Also a plus point for not being in the touristy area... If you ever get tired of eating oily frituur food in Antwerpen then maybe September could be a great break for you.
