For real Italian pizzas in the Bay area, this is one of your best options - and even the staff are Italian, too, which is a bonus. I ate here on a rare balmy evening recently and sat outside on the balcony decking area, with a fantastic view over the Bay, and for once there was hardly a breath of wind. Nights like that are not a frequent occurrence down at the waterfront, so you have to take advantage of them when they arrive and find a prime spot for your evening. Signor Valentino's offers just that - with great service and tasty pizza to boot. I haven't sat inside, but it looks smart, clean and contemporary with some tables offering equally brilliant Bay views. If you have room for dolci after your starters and main, try the chocolate and pear tart with vanilla ice cream - it's delicious.

So many places in the bay have great views of the bay itself so which one should you chose? Well if you're lucky to be in the bay on a sunny day with someone you like and you both fancy a bit of Italian food then you could do a lot worse than an outside seat on the balcony of Signor Valentinos. There are 4 Italian restaurant in the bay but only this one has a great view of the bay. When I went there, unusually for me, I didn't go with a pizza but for a seafood pasta dish and it was delicious. The service was great too. I'd say we paid a little more than we would do at Pizza Express but hey its an independent and we were really well looked after.

Hottest day of the year so far so decided to head down to Cardiff Bay for a bite to eat with my girlfriend. There is loads of choice but Signor Valentino seemed the place to go on such a lovely day. The environment is very clinical but the friendly service makes you feel right at home. Good selection on the menu and great wine list. The service was a little too fast for my liking with not enough time given between courses. Great place to come in the evening and watch the sun set and the bay light up like a Christmas tree. I would definitely visit again.

It's is best to book in advance as it is much smaller than it's competitor Lorenza's. They also offer a takeaway service that features an unusual array of choice and the classic style pizzas. Fresh flavourful ingredients make it a special experience even if you have takeaway it is different to the typical pizzas from Crwys rd other pizzerias. You'll find that a meal can set you back at least £20 each, which is more than I would expect for a restaurant in this location. The restaurant has some pedigree ownership and this makes for a tried & tested formula, which means you'll enjoy the experience.

One of my friends ate there, however, and told me that it was the sister restaurant of Da Mario in the city centre, and that the food was fantastic, so I was persuaded to give it a chance. Going back in the evening it looked far cosier and more appealing. The decor is quite simple and plain, rather than being stuffed with fake plants and memorabilia like many Italian restaurants are, although personally I quite like the latter! Their pizzas are thin, 11-12", and homemade, offering two choices of base (Margherita or Napoletana) plus a wide choice of extra toppings so you can make up your own - but I went for calamari rings for starters (£6.95) followed by Penne al Salmone (£10.95), both of which were delicious. This restaurant offers reasonable value and great service - but I'd probably prefer to go over to Canton to the Italian Way, for its fun, slightly cheesy old-fashioned Italian atmosphere.

I used to complain, but the evening was always spoilt regardless... now I just avoid the steak options on the menu unless I'm convinced that who I'm ordering them from can do them right... and I remain unconvinced that La Trattoria Molisana can!) It also concerns me that they serve Veal, which I always avoid wherever I am! La Trattoria Molisana are not the best Italian in Cardiff by any stretch of the imagination. But in its defence, there really is some seriously stiff competition, and you don't have to ever go too far to find it. The Dolce Vita on Wellfield Road is a good example. Anywhere else La Trattoria Molisana would be considered fairly good, but, being spoilt for choice in Cardiff, the upshot is that it can only be considered passable. The pizza is usually made well and the fresh fish is just that... fresh! Luckily La Trattoria seems to have a dedicated following as well as access to some great fish, (one of the benefits to being a coastal capital). These two things combined ensure that the stock rotation is quick, so the fish never sits around in the fridges for long. I recommend the trout or the sole. Sometimes I think they get a little too busy for their own good, and this is when problems occur. The kitchen can get overwhelmed and mistakes tend to creep in. But on the whole, I've been pretty happy with the food, and always appreciate the attentive service.

There's also an 'outdoor fire garden', that is probably pretty soggy this week! Whose been messing with the weather? Isn't this meant to be summer??? Tony's Bar and Kitchen Gallery is a bit like Milgi's, but after it grew up! This makes sense as Tony's Bar has been around since 1975, and so has had longer to mature. Milgi's is 25 years its junior. I'm rarely around for breakfasts in the morning, but I know they're pretty good. Instead I prefer to call in for a fantastic homemade pizza in the afternoons when the place is usually buzzing. It's essentially an Italian brassiere and so there's also pasta and grill offerings that are worth trying too.

I tried a slice and it was absolutely delicious - packed with flavour! Although they skimped on the pepperoni (1 pepperoni per slice), it was still beautiful with a perfect texture on the crust too (normally I don't like the crusts). I ordered a Lamb Burger with a side of chips, which came with a small packet of tomato ketchup. The chips were lovely - hand cut and I think possibly baked. Whatever the cooking method, the chips felt actually decently healthy and perfectly soft on the inside. Went great with the ketchup, though I think they should provide another pack because the amount they gave was nowhere near enough for the chip portion size. The burger itself was decent - nothing out of this world but was a fair enough meal on its own. --- Overall, I'm really happy about my experience ordering from Tony's. The prices were fair, the food was fantastic, and I didn't feel gross and heavy after eating it. Normally with pizza joints everything is over-burdened with grease to the point where you feel like you need to take a shower afterwards. With Tony's, they really show that you don't need to overdose your food with cheese of frying things. I'm no health freak, but the fact that Tony's can provide such delicious food without all the nonsense definitely earns my respect!

The Italian flags should also have given me some kind of clue. Anyway, it meant that Zio Pin was starting on a back foot - it wasn't chinese food... okay. But it was good Italian food. It was more authentically (I say this like I know; I've never been to Italy) Italian than places like Pizza Express and the like. The service was also great and the cost was really good. I'd come back here again and again. And again.

Since the stone baked pizzas at this place are so good (and excellent value) I find it hard to try anything else on the menu - and time and time again I trawl the menu and still return to the pizza. They also do pizzas to take away, which I'd highly recommend over the big chains such as Domino's and Perfect Pizza because their prices are competitive and their pizzas are delicious.
