We walked in with a group of 6 people looking to get tattoos on a whim. It was an hour and a half before they closed. They accepted all of us and 4 of us ended up with tattoos varying in detail and design. Heath did my tattoo and it looks wonderful. He did small fine line tattooing for me and a friend. He also did a medium traditional tattoo for another friend. Mark did a bigger detailed tattoo with color for another friend at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Signature Tattoo. The shop is beautiful and clean; it's located in my favorite block on Nine Mile in Ferndale. It's next door to the Boston Tea Room; across from Natural Food Patch...two of my favorite places. I had been eyeing the location for a while; but I never really thought about having another tattoo. I have regretted the one I do have for years. Anyhoo, you're not here for a back story. I simply had to have a tribute in memoriam of Prince. I called and spoke to Madson. He could see me right away. When I arrived, he greeted me like a true gentleman would. I liked him immediately. We had a fabulous conversation which made me feel super comfortable. There was very little pain. I thought the tattoo would hurt like crazy because it's located just beneath my wrist; but it was fine. I adore my Prince symbol tattoo. The line work is fantastic and so clean and precise, same with the shading and the overall design of the tattoos. I got two cat tattoos of my babies that passed away and I almost cried when I saw them finished. They look identical to my cats based off the photo references I gave him. I got my first tattoo almost 4 years ago now at 45 years old. Prince had just died and I was so saddened by the news I had the symbol etched on my inside forearm. I inquired about an acquaintances husband, a tattoo artist and this is where he works. Zach was great. He calmed my nerves and did a beautiful job. I've gone back two more times since then. I didn't realize how I'm demand artists are, however, he always gets me in. I love every creation he does for me. Horrible experience! I had my consultation a year ago with the owner for a full Japanese back piece. Seemed to go well and thought he had a good understanding of what I wanted. We agreed on the idea, I sent reference pictures, took pictures of my back, paid $300 deposit, and left. he'd told me he'd be able to schedule me in the fall and would call around June to schedule. Fall comes around he forgot about calling to schedule my appointment so I contacted him in September and he scheduled me for Jan 7th and at the end of Jan. He told me he'd send me a rough draft a few days before hand. While he did do that, the sketches look like they were done in 10min, doesn't follow what we discussed, and wants to do only 1 part and then build upon and fit the other parts of the piece, make a completely different focal point and then gives 0 idea of what the full piece would look like. I asked about what we had discussed and he proceeds to get mad tells me that's not how it works and that he wasted 6 hours on something that he'd have to scrap 3 days before first session. He then states he'll be canceling my appointment refunding my deposit all because I should just trust his 30 years of experience and should appreciate his professionalism and invested time. read more

I told him what I wanted and sent him a bunch of "inspiration" pictures to work with. When I came in to actually get the tattoo, the design he drew up was perfect. To be upfront, I've only been here twice, both times for their annual birthday bonanza. We were there for the better part of four hours each time, so we got a lot of time to pay attention to the artists and staff, as well as check out the building. All of the artists and assistants were super friendly and welcoming, something I don't always feel from tattoo shops. There were no "holier than thou" attitudes or "you should be so lucky to be in my chair" egos. Just cool people shelling out awesome tattoos. The shops is pretty open, but still seemed clean and sanitary. Even with a crowd of literally hundreds of people and waiting lists 8 hours long, I didn't see any of the artists cutting corners on safety, or on quality of their work. Obviously I got to see a lot of tattoos being done - by like 8 artists simultaneously - and I've got to say that I'd feel pretty comfortable walking in and getting work done by any of them. read more

Had a really top notch experience with Loaf, if you are anywhere in the Detroit metro area, make the trip to see him it'll be worth it. He is very knowledgeable and was great about giving suggestions about our design ideas to get the best looking tattoo and educating us in what would look good and why. He took the time to draw up several designs so we could see what his interpretation would be and choose from there. His station was super clean and he got it all setup quick, then one of my favorite things about our experience with him is that his machine is QUIET. When we first started I was the only one in the shop who was at the tattoo stage, and it was so quiet he could carry a normal conversation. Once the other machines fired up it was a harder...
