In the interest of full disclosure, I have become good friends with Joe through attending his parties and lessons, and I occasionally help out here on a volunteer basis. This dance is my recommendation for all beginner dancers. The people are all very friendly, and are very beginner friendly. This dance boasts a one of a kind "coaching corner." If one is not familiar with the steps of a dance, you can go to the coaching corner where an experienced dancer will teach you the basic step of that dance. The free lesson at the beginning of the dances is also very beginner friendly. The food generally is pretty extensive and is enough for a simple meal, although I usually eat dinner again with all the calories I burn off (hahaha). There are usually two songs played back to back of the same dance throughout the evening so one can really practice that dance - another beginner friendly feature. A friendly tip: The firehouse can be tough to find. It is not right off of Providence road, but you have to make a quick turn across from the Wawa. Look for the Wawa, because it is really off of that small side street across from it.

Where else would you even be able to see another orchestra for under $40 once? Let alone 5 times! This is an amazing deal and I wish more people would take advantage of it. We have to save institutions like this or we will be sorry when they are gone. It's a great way to have scheduled time with you significant other. This season is called migrations and features artist from every continent performing their traditional music along with the orchestra. It just started so you can still sign up!

Well, I just got back from the Rodrigo | Bizet concert at the Kimmel Center. The chamber orchestra…read moreplayed in the Perelman Theatre which had great acoustics. I just loved the intimate feeling compared to the Philadelphia Orchestra in Verizon Hall. The players here are all wonderful. Plus, they include other instruments like classical guitar which adds to whole concert experience. Right length for a concert which ended in an hour. Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia has it just right by selecting music pieces that all have a similar theme.

For over a year, New…read moreDance Workshop gave live and virtual options, trained teachers, bought supplies, sanitized, changed operating procedures and kept kids and teachers safe. The recital set up was done quickly, efficiently and was beautiful. Hiccups due to weather were handled completely without outward signs of stress on the faces of staff. They live-streamed so extended family could watch. Girls danced with masks or without depending on their comfort level. It was an amazing day. Highly recommend this wonderul studio.

I felt like I was floating down the aisle in a movie. They also learned any song we wanted and kicked ass at our cocktail hour! They even snuck in some them songs from shows we love and some Disney music. Their electric instruments were also so cool. It was amazing entertainment. There are no words when the music speaks for itself! Simply incredible, our guests are still complimenting our string quartet. PSQ was so easy to work with throughout the pandemic and all of the changes, played every song we had on our list, and made our special day spectacular. I can't wait until I have the privilege of being in their audience again. Mugu is so easy to work with and Laura gets back to you right away, making everything seamless. So lucky to have had them be part of our day!

I recently threw a surprise birthday party for my wife and and thought it would be neat to hire a…read morebellydancer. I found Fatima Bassmah online and gave her a call. I had never really even seen a bellydancer before and wasn't exactly sure what to expect but speaking with Fatima eased my mind. She was very professional and explained exactly what her performance included. When she showed up (right on time!) she did not disappoint. Everyone at the party had so much fun. My wife and the rest of the family loved it. Fatima got everyone up to dance and the kids at the party had a blast. After her performance, she gave a little lesson and even brought a gift for my wife. People are still talking about what a great time they had and even mentioned they plan to hire Fatima for one of their events. Thank you Fatima!!

I recently came here to see the play Closer after not having seen a play in years. I wasn't sure…read morewhat to expect. The building seems to be a church by day and has cool architectural details and the most badass fireplace I've seen in a while. It's located in the lobby where you wait for the seating to begin. The inside of the theater is spacious and the seats are a nice size with a good amount of leg room. You can see the stage well from anywhere you are sitting. The performance of Closer was very entertaining and lasted about 2 hours and 20 minutes with an intermission in the middle. Even though the subject matter was dark, the actors managed to put humor into it and there were many funny parts. There was a minimalist set design with projectors used and only a few pieces of furniture - this was really clever. Finally, they had cool music playing before the show and during intermission and also during the scenes. I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would

HOLY CRAP!!! I really mean it, HOLY CRAP, THESE GUYS ARE…read moreAWESOME!!! Imagine if you took The Beatles, The Band, and The Beach Boys, merged them into one band, made them 100% American, time warped them into the 21st Century, and gave them a few The Flaming Lips records to check out. That is Dr. Dog. The 1st time I caught these guys was 2005 in Rittenhouse Square which was immediately followed by a free show at North Star bar. There were about 20 people at the free North Star show, and all 20 of us were all, "HOLY CRAP!!! What are these guys doing playing an empty Philly dive, for free, on a Monday night?" The answer soon became obvious. We were all about five minutes early for a "birthday party of press" and well deserved cred that was about to be heaped upon Dr. Dog. Weeks later Dr. Dog landed UK distribution on Rough Trade, followed by a tour with The Raconteurs, followed by an EP that got rave reviews in all the "hip" magazines, followed by a full length release (We All Belong), followed by two write ups in Rolling Stone, appearances on Conan and Letterman, and a spot at Bonnaroo. Way to win Dr. Dog, way to win! They are ill, check it out. Easybeat is arguably the best record to come out in the last five years. We All Belong and Takers & Leaves (the EP) are also ill; but for me Easybeat is the hot shit.
