My birthday party was December 10 and it was currently early in November. Given the number of Christmas parties and other things going on in December I was pretty desperate to lock someone down because I wanted karaoke for my birthday party damn it and I intended to get it. After an unhelpful shout out to local yelpers (no responses..booo!), I used the google to find some local places. I finally settled on Nashville Party Authority because a) the price was lower than the other and b) Blair really talked to me about songs that would be available and c) he made me feel comfortable that he would be there and knew how to lead a party. True to his word, Blair was there with a DJ in training and were already set up by 8pm. He assured me that they would play awesome dance music until people got up enough liquid courage to sing and would advertise the karaoke so that people could get their guts up. He had most every song we wanted to sing (very few were not available) and played music in between when I was opening gifts and when people weren't signed up to sing. There was no actual SIGNING up either, just walk up and tell him and you are UP NEXT or put in exact order as signing up. Since it was a private party with only 40ish guests it wasn't hard to sing whatever you want. He had half of my party dancing their asses off in between songs too so he knows how to get people feeling festive. By the way, so does alcohol!! They bring the sound, the books for jogging your memory on songs, microphones (two), the TV with words, everything you need except a bunch of singers to get your groove on. Cost was also reasonable for the time of year, Saturday night party, and the relatively late booking. I intend to keep this guy in my mental rolodex to use again next time I want to have a fun party. You should keep them in your mental rolodex too!!

The food...A nice spread, started with a nice salad, my wife and I had the chicken, potatoes, and asparagus (Cooked to perfection, might I add), and ended with some bomb tiramisu. The service is impeccable! From the bartender (best Old Fashioned I've ever had in Franklin), to the actors/actresses who were funny, kept the crowd engaged, and are excellent at their craft. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Like I said earlier, add it to your date night "bucket list"...

Music! Madness! Mayhem! KARAOKE!…read more SITREP When several people were asking on the "Nashville Talk" threads about, "What's the Karaoke scene like in Nashville?", local Nashville Elite Squad Yelpvinity Sheena T. came forth with LOTS of information for us Yelpers! [And unfortunately for her, but very fortunately for US, Nashville Community Manager (CM) Marcia M. lassooed our dear Sheena to put together a Karaoke night. And she DID! Tonight! At Lonnie's Western Room in Printers Alley in downtown Nashville! And it was so much fun! GREAT CROWD And Karaoke is one of those totally random endeavors that is totally depending on the people at the location which can change night to night, even hour to hour. But the chemistry was definitely at Lonnies tonight! LOGISTICS Tonight there was no cover, but there was a "soft" two drink minimum. However, the Karaoke DJ ladies are not paid and only make what they get in tips. So if you tip the DJs decently, there is no pressure to drink....a lot. ;) SINGING TALENT! What an incredible bunch of Yelpers! So many with the gift of great sounding pipes (NOT including me, but I gave it my all). Just about everyone stepped up to the plate and sang - here are some fun highlights of what we got to experience last night: (1) Offspring, anyone? (Sheena Rocks it!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iwixm4Bkscw&feature=youtu.be (2) Gloria Gaynor, anyone? (Victoria should make singing her profession!!!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIC64Gj4a4k&feature=youtu.be (3) Anna Nalick's "Breath, just breath" beautifully sung! (Angela was so beautiful & adorable!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIunu65n3HA&feature=youtu.be (4) I THINK it's an Alanis Morrissette tune, but I don't think we could hear her since she wasn't singing into the microphone - what you hear is our Yelp contingent of gals singing behind us to keep the song going. However, the gal "singing" wins points for being VERY entertaining to watch! (I honestly don't know who this gal is!) :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hoM3rjagbc&feature=youtu.be KUDOS Major props to Sheena T. for putting together such a fun fun night of Karaoke enjoyment for all of us out-of-towners whom descended upon the fair City of Nashville with a pent up desire to sing to our hearts content. Both Sheena and Lonnie's were well up to the task! THE LOWDOWN Karaoke doesn't get any better than this in Nashville!

This FREE concert series at Cumberland Park on the East bank of the Cumerland river (next to LP…read moreField) started this year and runs the third Sunday of each month from August to November (4 concerts total). It goes from 5-7pm and will be returning next year in case you can't make the last date of November 21st. It features famous jazz musicians playing original and classic tunes. They play in the amphitheater in the park, and there are no seats, so bring a blanket or chairs or, if you can make it, you can sit on the wall. I heard about this through the Artober Nashville promotions, and having never been to Cumberland Park I decided to give it a try. I will review that park in a seperate post, but it is absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to go there again. Beautiful views of downtown Nashville at sunset with our wonderful pedestrian bridge...yeah its pretty much the best setting ever for a free jazz concert. And Nashville, for being Music City, we sure do lack good jazz. But apparently you've realized that, and found a solution in this little gem. I thank you for that. This is still a new event so it wasn't crowded, and it was very relaxing. There's a concession stand near the bridge but that's all for food or drink as of now, so I recommend packing a picnic, and bringing extra clothes as its chilly this time of year (not so in the summer months). It's a great way to wind down a Sunday, and like I said you can't beat the views. The musicians were beyond talented, and the music is so soothing. The quartet that played this weekend did a great rendition of "What a Wonderful World" that seemed to resonant with the surroundings themselves. I will be going to the one in November, even if I have to wear winter gear to do so. I will absolutely support this great idea so it keeps happening. Please, remind Music City that we like more than country. This was a great event and I am so happy I got the chance to try it out.

Full buffet prior to the show for 1.5 hours which consisted of smoked salmon, grilled chicken, fried rice, prime rib, pasta salad, kale salad, shrimp cocktail, couscous, hummus, etc - Foodwise I was pretty underwhelmed. Everything tasted alright but nothing made me want to go back for seconds. It was definitely all filler to soak up for alcohol. 2. Open bar with champagne, wine, beers, and juices - I readily helped myself to multiple glasses of their red and white wine (one selection each). The bartenders were heavy with the pours and very friendly. Be generous with the tips, folks! They take care of you! You're also welcome to take your drinks in to the show which my boyfriend and I took full advantage of. 3."Kid's Corner" - I saw pepperoni and cheese pizza. Heard there were also sliders and mini hot dogs but I never saw any. My boyfriend loved the pizza. Hah. 4. Free parking! - It's a gravel lot and usually costs $20. The interior of my car is absolutely ruined from all the dust and sand that came in from this but it was worth it. I've been needing to get my car cleaned anyways. I would recommend getting rug covers though if you don't want to have to clean your rugs the next day. 5. Dessert hour during intermission - I'm not a big sweets person, but my boyfriend really enjoyed the cookies. There were also an array of cakes. I loved the fruits (watermelon, cantaloupe, honey dew). 6. Free popcorn! - Self explanatory. Freshly popped from one of those movie-theater popcorn machines. So good! 7. VIP-only restrooms - I don't recall seeing a ton of people here so it felt like it was exclusive to those who were in VIP. Clean and way better than portapotties. 8. Meet and greet with the performers - Two of the performers came into the VIP tent after the show to sign our book. Really nice guys! 9. Access to the mainstage, stables and training area - I think I missed the actual group tour and just ended up stumbling into the stables area. Loved seeing the horses up close. Some were very friendly and came right up to you. One even licked my entire forearm! They all looked well taken care of. 10. Cavalia book souvenir - Nice book with gorgeous photos printed on heavy paper. Great item to have to relive your experience! 11. AMAZING seats. - We were literally SO close to the stage. There was also a boutique area in the VIP tent for you to pick up more souvenirs like books, plushes, and shirts from the show. The show itself was better than I was expecting! I absolutely loved watching how well trained the horses were (Fun fact: it typically takes a horse 9 years to be trained for one of these shows!). I wish my dog was this well trained. The vocalist was GREAT. She sounded beautiful. The acrobats were very impressive as they demonstrated their gravity defying acts. The stage itself was also breathtaking. It's HUGE. So many gorgeous colors and lighting! The only thing I wish it had was more of a narrative/storyline or maybe there was and I just completely missed it. Overall, we had an absolutely great time. We also got to meet fellow Yelp Elites (Hey Brittany and Scott!) which made the experience even more enjoyable! Once again, fantastic job Johnny and team! Can't wait for the next event!
