A professional performing arts centre in the heart of the Comox Valley, the Sid Williams Theatre is one of the busiest venues in British Columbia. The auditorium has just over 500 seats, including a 140-seat balcony and accessibility platform. The theatre lounge is fully licensed, offering refreshments and snacks prior to a performance and during intermission. While the building is owned by the City of Courtenay, the theatre has been operated by the Sid Williams Theatre Society, a registered charitable organization, since 2001. A staff of 18 is responsible for the day-to-day running of the theatre, from artistic programming to custodial, from promotions to lighting design.

History

The Sid Williams Theatre is operated by the Sid Williams Theatre Society, a registered charitable organization mandated to operate the theatre for the benefit of the community, with funding from multiple levels of government, arts organizations, and support from private and business donors. The Sid Williams Theatre has been serving the Comox Valley for over 25 years as a performing arts facility, and has had a professional administration since 1992. In 1998, the theatre was closed for some much needed renovations. After a few seismic tests, the City of Courtenay extended the original $1,000,000 budget to an incredible $2,500,000. The renovations extended the lobby, added a concession, a large ticket centre, family viewing seats, an 144 seat balcony, many needed washrooms, larger dressing room space, and much more. Now, a 500-seat performing arts facility, the Sid Williams Theatre looks forward to providing quality entertainment for the Comox Valley for many years to come.
