I rented a car through rentalcars.com and they supplied me with Sicily by Car. The rates were relatively cheap and decided to go with them. Unfortunately I didn't do a review check on Sicily by Car before I went over to Sicily. I should have!!!!!
Got to Palermo Airport, went to pick up the car. My friend and I had to wait 2 hours in line before we got to the desk. The chap behind the desk did not even have the decency to apologise for the wait. Unreal! They insisted on putting a €1000.00 hold on my debit card as insurance. I thought this was a lot, but didn't have a choice so signed the form. When he handed over the keys, he pointed out that the car takes diesel. I then asked him if he is sure about that and he said yes, it is definitely diesel. It turned out the car was in fact petrol NOT diesel. Thank goodness I noticed this before I filled up. Any how. I stayed in Sicily for a week, drove the car without incident and returned the car with a FULL tank of petrol at 7:15AM. This is a decent time, right? There was not a soul to check the car back in at this time. I was very surprised about this, because it is a busy time of the day at the airport with people catching early flights. Any how, I dropped the keys through the collection box, thinking everything is all good. A WEEK LATER I HAD CHARGES OF MORE THAN €300 MADE TO MY DEBIT CARD!!!! They claim that one of the wheels has been damaged and that I returned the car without a full tank of petrol.
Shocked, I ran checks on the internet about the company and was horrified about what I found about this company. I have clearly been a victim of their fraudulent actions.
I contacted rentalcars.com immediately by sending an e-mail and I phoned them. The lady on the line told me someone will get back to me. I heard back from them 2 weeks later saying that they have received paperwork from Sicily by Car confirming the damage to the car (NO PHOTOS) and that the case is considered closed. I emailed back saying that I can not accept this... Long story short. It has been over a month now and the matter is still not resolved and in my mind I know I will probably lose. It makes me terribly angry that a company can get away with this. Who has the time and money to take a matter like this to court? I am outraged! read more
