Very beautiful pavilion that feels very authentic and reflective of real Chinese pavilion/garden environment! 6 stars for the environment, honestly. Food was good too--pretty authentic for Vienna. Service was a bit slow, but there was a lot of customers. This is clearly a popular place, and we were lucky to snag a table for the three of us outside without a reservation. We tried the following dishes: - Beef tripe (authentic version) - excellent! Tasted just like the real deal. Spicy, flavorful, and generous portions of meat. - Stir-fried fresh garlic sprouts with shredded pork - great, and I particularly enjoyed the refreshing crispiness of the garlic sprouts. - Stir-fried beef strips with green pepper - not the best green pepper beef dish I've had, but okay enough. The dish was a bit mushy for me. - Fried glass noodles with vegetables (side dish) - good light and simple dish. Larger portion than I'd expect for a side dish. - Martini extra dry - good drink with a nice amount of dryness (without being too dry). - Martini rossa - good but certainly has a sweet and bold flavor. read more

I enjoyed my lunch at Sichuan, but the food was disappointing. The location is spectacular. It's a beautiful spot to eat, within a gorgeous walled garden at the edge of the Donaupark. I had the lunch special which costs 10 Euro including dessert. The starter was "spicy cucumber salad". It was fine. The main was stir-fried duck with vegetables & steamed rice. The duck had extremely overcooked; it had already been cooked before it was stir-fried and recooked. Since it had been cooked so many times and for so long, it had a tough, dry, unpleasant texture, which is unfortunate, since duck in Chinese cuisine is typically juicy & succulent. The rest of the dish (vegetables) were fine, but there wasn't much flavour. Thankfully, they provided soy sauce & chili sauce that I could use to season the food. The dessert was deep-fried banana. Lychee juice was fine (3.60 Euro) Service was good. I'd be fine with trying Sichuan again, since it's possible that the dish with the recooked duck was just particularly bad... although I don't like that they served re-cooked duck meat without letting customers know that's what we're ordering. read more

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon. The service was very slow and they kept making mistakes . They brought us we did not order and they refuse to take it back and charged us for it for an appetizer. After waiting for an hour at least for our entries and checking the status on our food , they brought 2 dishes out of the four and they had to order the rest two orders that we end up cancelling in order to get catch our bus and not wanting to wait another hour . I end up tasting the other entries and they were very salty . We had to tell our server that we are in a rush and have it get the check ASAP. We end up spending €63 euro on 4 soups and 2 main dishes and one beer, one small jasmine rice and noodle side dishes . And be aware they charge for tap water too €1:50 . read more

Sichuan China Restaurant gets a rare five stars from me for an Asian restaurant in Vienna. The food is not always five stars but the total dining experience is. However if you learn this restaurant's strengths, you will be presented with well-prepared and delicious food courses. I recently had an excellent steamed dumpling filled with shrimps followed up by a tasty stir-fried salmon with broccoli, cashews, and chilies. And because I like my Szechuan dishes even spicier than how they are usually served, I took full advantage of the flavorful hot chili sauce provided on every table. But make no mistake, Sichuan China Restaurant is a five-star restaurant experience because it is one of the most beautiful Chinese restaurants I have eaten in outside China itself. The interior rooms are super attractive but even more so the Confucian gardens and pond outside are spectacular - especially in springtime with so many flowers and trees in bloom. Dining on the terrace overlooking the water with koi fish reflecting the rays of the sun makes you feel like you are actually dining in a secluded Chinese countryside tea house. It brought back awesome memories of some of my favorite lunches/dinners when I was travelling around China. Now that warm weather is here, I am really glad Vienna has the Sichuan China Restaurant! read more

Food here is ok. The service could do better. They forgot one order in a party of four. Very appologetic, etc, but they did forget and were not sorry enough to offer discount or free meal, so - 3 stars. McDonalds does not forget your order - so place is not better than Null-hypothesis. Nice design, but staff is very bad. Our waiter, which was a senior person or even owner of the place, was very unfriendly when we ordered. We asked about various foods and allergens, to which he reacted in an annoyed way. We asked him why he is unfriendly, to which he replied that if we don't like it, we should go home. Design and atmosphere is nice, food average. And staff, as said, very poor and unwelcoming. Not a place where you go to have a nice time, even if the small "village" has a nice flair. read more
