My last appointment, I was nearly run over in the parking lot by a drunk that ran a red light, at 9am. The drunk proceeded to get out of his vehicle and yell at me and threaten me. I had to call the police, to which he returned to his vehicle and drove off.
I was shaken, and violated.
When I entered the building I was upset and crying. This is how my accupuncturist received me that day:
I was told that I needed to be quiet. That she had other clients and since I was not hurt, I needed to just be quiet, or leave.
Now, being that this woman was supposed to be in a 'caretaker' position, she was made fully aware of my autism and PTSD.
Frankly, had I been the client already with needles in me and I heard that another client had been attacked, in the parking lot, I would want my caretaker to take care of the other person, while I waited, it would only seem right to me. I would be angry to hear that my caretaker/doctor type person, told another patient, that their attack in the parking lot was less important than my own treatment.
In a state of shock, I allowed that woman to stick needles in me and it was extremely painful for the first time in her care, my third appiontment. She claimed that the pain was due to the fact I was attacked and my system was on high alert. I agree, but I have to say that I should have walked out and left this review five weeks ago when it happened. But, I had been attacked, I was in a state of shock, and I was treated without compassion by the person I was going to for healing. Being an autistic with PTSD, it took me until the next day to fully process just how uncompassionate, unprofessional and immorally I had been treated by the person being paid to care for me.
Now, the worst part is, I should have never gone back to her after the first appointment. Every accupuncurist I have ever gone to, does a comprehensive exam, including taking several pulses. As soon as the practitioner found out sensitive information about me, she tried to pawn me off to a free clinic down the street, saying I need therapy to overcome my ptsd, not asking what/if I am already doing/done, AND despite the fact I have the best insurance in America. Again, this took me time to process that she was trying to pawn me off and not wanting to treat me. I am autistic, I have a hard time with social cues, this is part of what autism is.
The second appiontment I surely should have never come back.
My husband had been the one to contact Shen, make the appointment for me, AFTER emailing with her SEVERAL times to find out if she had a problem with autism, with ptsd, what she charged. He still has the emails to proove that they agreed the first appointment would be $150, then each next appointment would be $75. It was also agreed that they would print and send a comprehensive receipt so that we can submit it to our insurance.
I was charged $175 for the first appointment, then $100 each appointment after that. They never printed me a receipt. They never emailed a receipt to my husband.
When you are talking to your doctor, which is the role these people are playing as accupuncturists, and you tell them about a physical abnormality and they start looking at you like you smell bad, do not allow it. Get up and walk out. I wish I had saved my husbands money, as he was lied to and ripped off, we are still not able to submit the charges to our insurance and I was treated like I do not matter, it does not matter if someone attacks me, others are more important and I just need to shut up or get out.
This is true and there is a police report to prove that I called and why. I also have a picture of the back end of the van that almost ran me over, with the license plate in full view, this was also sent to the police for their record. You can clearly see in the picture that the van is parked in the parking lot of Shen. I will not post the pic here as the tag is an identifyer that is not allowed on this forum.
Thankfully I have found a reputable accupuncturist that actually takes our insurance and has made my life so much easier. Shen is NOT it and I cannot recommend this place to anyone who has serious issues that need addressed, or if you are looking for compassion. read more
