I've done some studio tours and whatnot before, having been to Los Angeles and some of the surrounding areas, and figured I'd give the tour of Screen Gem Studios a shot too. Felt a bit like herding cattle in the beginning - waiting in line, buying a ticket, being prodded past the concession table where they were selling t-shirts and water. For what it's worth? Everything is cash only. The 'herd' of us taking the tour was split into two groups, and each group had two guides. We were given the basic guidelines for the tour - no photography, no touching props, stay with the tour group/your party, etc - and then started on our way. We were shown the diner from Under the Dome, a jail set, as well as the sheriff's office. Additional portions of the tour included a look at the outside of some of the production buildings, as well as the back lot from a pretty significant distance away. At the end of the tour, we were taken inside to view the 'sizzle reel' for Screen Gem Studios, used to demonstrate the kind of production value that both THEY can provide, as well as various portions of the film industry in North Carolina. Considering there's various legislation about the film industry that's currently being reviewed, there was a pretty strong emphasis from our guides about supporting the industry, writing to local politicians in support of places like Screen Gems, and the like. TL;DR I wasn't impressed, considering you see maybe 3 small sets during the entire tour and everything else is far, Far, FAR off in the distance...or you just see the outside of a production building. I have to admit that I was pretty bored during this tour.

You do not get to see their new water tank facility, which is what I really wanted to see. One thing I did learn, if you see a movie with "EUE/Screen Gems Production", then it was made in Wilmington, if the movie is missing the EUE, then it was done in Cali.

If I could I would give a 0 star. I ordered an item in January of 2020 it shipped quickly but was…read morethe incorrect item. Contacted and was told they would send the correct one and will email me a RMA to send back old one. 3 weeks passed no lens. Called and was informed they emailed me the rma and was waiting on the lens to arrive back before sending new one. I had no email. Sat on phone and sent an email to then from 7 different email accounts none went through. Finally got the rma sticker in June. Now 6 month from the original time. Had a terrible experience. I read the other reviews beforehand but decided to rent from them anyway…read moresince they were the only company nearby that carried the equipment I needed. (Edit: The other reviews are at https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.avalive.com) Then: 1. After not hearing from me for a bit since I was sorting out funding, I received an email from their rentals guy who said only, "Is this dead?" Many of their emails were one sentence (or even one word). 2. It felt like it took a lot of work on my end to get the equipment. They didn't alert me to the fact that I hadn't sent them correct credit card info until I called up two days after we had agreed that the items would be delivered. It's a good thing I had the equipment set to be delivered a week early. 3. Had to call multiple times to get information about my reimbursement. I ended up getting the money on time but no notification that my shipment had arrived or that they had started processing my reimbursement. Total of two stars because I eventually got all of the equipment I needed on time, and did get my money back, but had to actively ask for information from them about my order every step of the way. Save yourself the hassle and rent from someone else if you can. Edit: Got an email from them. I'm glad they read their yelp reviews! Maybe they'll improve their customer service from here on out. Edit: They keep emailing me about this review! Okay okay, the first draft had an inaccuracy about the credit cards. So I guess complaint number 4 is that if you leave a bad review for them on yelp they'll hound you about making sure it's correct instead of just posting a rebuttal.
