We are both attorneys, but estate planning is not our field of expertise, and we only have confidence in someone who is a certified legal specialist in Estate Planning, Trusts and Probate, because we know that this certification is not easy to get--you have to really know your stuff and be up to date on every change in the law. In addition to that certification, here's why we recommend her so highly: 1) She listens with both ears. She is not just waiting to talk and impress you with how much more she knows than you do. If you are a woman with her own business, she listens to YOU about that, and doesn't direct all the business questions to your husband just because he's the guy in the room. 2) She has a great depth of knowledge about tax law and how to avoid the pitfalls of being taxed more than necessary after death. 3) She doesn't recommend anything more complicated than it needs to be. If simple will work, she goes for simple; if not, she explains why it might be better to go up a step (or two) in complexity. 4) She is really, really smart, but she explains things in ways that are easy to understand, and she's not patronizing. If you tell her you didn't understand the first time, she doesn't just repeat the initial explanation, but rephrases it in a way that's easier to comprehend (with visuals, if you need them). 5) She tells you that you have options, and what the advantages and disadvantages are for each one. She ties these options in to what you've told her about your particular family situation. 6) She has a sense of humor, which makes thinking about why you need a will less stressful. We didn't hesitate to recommend her to our own children, because we know she is honest and reliable. 7) Her offices are on West Portal, not downtown, and parking is easy. They are not in a fancy glass high rise where you know the fees will be high because she has to pay an exorbitant rent. 8) Her fees are very reasonable. You will not get this sort of expertise from any attorney in San Francisco for less than she charges. Pay more at a big downtown firm if you like, but you won't do better than this for estate planning no matter where you go.

I tried contacting several law firms, but Sandy was the only one who got back to me. And I'm so glad she did. I can't thank her enough. For so long, I felt helpless watching her struggle with what happened to her, seeing her doubt herself and wondering if anyone would ever truly listen. Then you came into our lives, and everything changed. From our very first meeting, you treated her with such respect and dignity. You listened to her story - really listened - and never once made her feel like she had to prove herself to you. As a mother, seeing someone believe in my child the way you did was everything. Watching you fight so fiercely for her rights and her truth last week gave both of us hope that we haven't had during some really dark moments over the past few years. You didn't just handle her case - you cared about her as a person, and that made all the difference. This settlement isn't just about money - it's about my daughter getting the acknowledgment she needed to start truly healing. Thank you, Sandy, for giving my daughter her voice back and for fighting like hell to make sure justice was done. You've been a blessing to our family.

I was on the lookout for a new attorney to help me update a prior estate plan after getting married last year, having found my previous attorney well-informed, but not as communicative and articulate/descriptive as I would have liked for the answers I was seeking. I came across Jelena and several other attorneys through my legal insurance network, and after having had an initial chat with them all, found it pretty easy to move forward with her, having appreciated how well she communicated her ideas and suggestions, as well as the particular guidance path she recommended. A few forms and meetings later, my plan was done and updated, and seemingly (to my untrained legal eye) much more comprehensive than my prior one. After everything is complete, she'll send you docs that are easy to update as needed, as well as detailed instructions for any next steps needed to finish documenting/setting up your estate. Overall, she's a great attorney to work with, who's well-informed and willing to explain whatever you have questions about, but also very honest about when she doesn't know the answer to something, which she'll also quickly research and follow up with you on: something far more preferable than a professional that'd just pretend to know everything. Highly recommend!

Immigration processes can feel overwhelming, but she made it much easier by explaining each step and keeping things on track. One thing that really stood out was her attention to detail. She reviewed everything carefully and made sure nothing was missed. That gave me confidence that my case was being handled thoroughly. She was also consistently available to answer questions. In my experience, many immigration lawyers can be hard to reach or slow to respond, but she was the opposite. I never felt left in the dark about what was happening. Even after our formal work together was finished, she has remained available as a resource when questions come up. That level of ongoing support means a lot. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and reliable immigration lawyer.

I was searching in Yelp way back 2018 and i messaged someone who helped Attorney Grace. I was devastated to get my immigrant status because I left my hometown in Philippines and I don't wanna go back home and tell myself, I failed. To cut story short, my case was complicated and she helped me understand what are the possibilities and procedures would be like. She was very honest and intelligent woman. She will not lie to you if your case is possible to work on or you will lose. 2018 we filed VAWA and she made it possible for me to get my work authorization approved while waiting for my first case to be approved before applying for my permanent residency. I will be honest sometimes, I wanted to give up but I have to trust the process. 2019 i got my VAWA approved and filed my adjust status for my permanent residency. 2020- been waiting but gladly I can still work so patience is a virtue. I wanted to give up but I told myself, Quitters never win. I waited. 2021- despite of Covid, I heard a great news from Grace Alano that I am set for my greencard interview. Yes it is December and it would be a perfect Christmas gift and I couldn't ask for more. We went to Sta Clara USCIS for my interview and Atty Grace was there with me. The officer asked few questions but not related to my previous case. Then after few questions, I got my greencard approved! As soon as we stepped out the room, I cried to Atty Grace and said Thank you for making it happen. I can finally go home to Philippines and see my son and family. She hugged and congratulate me. If the time come and I need a legal help, I will go to Atty Grace Alano again. I highly recommend her to help you with your immigration case.
