Personalized care. Confidence in her and the offices abilities. Was recommended by my CPA in a state planning.

Gemma knows the law, converts the terms into "normal people" talk and does that efficiently and in a friendly way.

I went back to her when I set up my living trust, will, and medical power of attorney.

I was on the lookout for a new attorney to help me update a prior estate plan after getting married last year, having found my previous attorney well-informed, but not as communicative and articulate/descriptive as I would have liked for the answers I was seeking. I came across Jelena and several other attorneys through my legal insurance network, and after having had an initial chat with them all, found it pretty easy to move forward with her, having appreciated how well she communicated her ideas and suggestions, as well as the particular guidance path she recommended. A few forms and meetings later, my plan was done and updated, and seemingly (to my untrained legal eye) much more comprehensive than my prior one. After everything is complete, she'll send you docs that are easy to update as needed, as well as detailed instructions for any next steps needed to finish documenting/setting up your estate. Overall, she's a great attorney to work with, who's well-informed and willing to explain whatever you have questions about, but also very honest about when she doesn't know the answer to something, which she'll also quickly research and follow up with you on: something far more preferable than a professional that'd just pretend to know everything. Highly recommend!

Our trust & estate lawyer retired and we had been looking for another T&E attorney. Luckily, one of…read moreour friends directed us to Connie. We reached out to Connie (I think we called her or submitted a request via her website ) and she responded promptly (she is busy so the initial Zoom meeting may take a couple of weeks). In any event, in all our interactions, Connie was responsive, practical, knowledgeable, efficient and just a lovely person (funny too). I should mention that my spouse and I had a short time frame to revise our revocable family trust (along with wills, advanced directives, and power of attorney) and Connie understood and met our time constraints. One night she sent a draft of the revised trust at 1:30 in the morning. If we reached out to her at 9 in the morning, she'd respond promptly as well (within a couple of hours if that). Connie also understood our questions/concerns and provided clear and concise responses (whether via Zoom or by email). We really appreciated Connie's thoughtfulness, diligence, and assistance. I have recommended Connie to our friends. Btw, Connie's fee structure is very reasonable for the services provided. She is also forthright and, if you ask her, she will just tell you, this is what my services will cost. I do feel the need to rebut the one bad review (JW's review). What a strange review. Why would you want an attorney to provide services in an area in which they lack expertise? To me, JW's review is evidence of Connie's honesty and, quite frankly, JW should be thanking Connie for being ethical (vs some charlatan that responds with pay me and I'll give you advice in an area I know nothing about). As an attorney, the law is complex. You do not want someone to give you advice in area in which they lack expertise (sort of like, you would not want an ophthalmologist to conduct your heart surgery--just saying). Anyhow, an example of Connie's expertise: I go, hey Connie, why did you include this language, seems to limit protection against a wayward trustee who, in theory, could steal the assets of the trust (she gave a precise and clear answer). I do actively dislike critical reviews that are baseless. My personal experience with Connie was excellent. My spouse thought so too.

Her fee structure is reasonable and she quickly gets the job done. She replies quickly to our emails and offers a free consultation to boot. In the midst of my heartbreak and trauma of losing my mother, I had to also defend my disabled sister from losing the family home our parents had intended for her. In my bleakest hour, I sought attorney referrals from friends, associates, the Bar Association, and anyone who would listen. I met with half dozen attorneys, who ranged from skilled but unconcerned, to concerned but unimpressive-- most of whom offered little hope for my situation. That all changed when I met Emilie Calhoun. After our first consultation, she had a firm grasp of my case, provided clear options before demanding any retainer, displayed trustworthy concern and extreme competence. I was immediately impressed that she always remembered every minute detail of my case, upon each visit, which is always an appreciated relief when dealing with legal matters. Ms. Calhoun represented us skillfully, and with favorable results. I can't recommend her enough, and can only say that to have her on your side is a blessing indeed.

I can count on one hand, however, the people I have met that constitute wonderful mentors, show a passion for the law, and are just all around good people. The definition of a fiduciary duty is this: the highest standard of care at either equity or law. A fiduciary is expected to be extremely loyal to the person to whom (s)he owes the duty (the "principal") and must not put his/her personal interests before the duty, and must not profit from this position as a fiduciary, unless the principal consents. Ms. Calhoun lives up to this definition and indeed walks the walk. I have seen her burn the candle at both ends to work for clients that cannot afford to pay for her services (more often than not) and she operates with the zeal, passion, temerity and compassion that supersedes even this definition. Personally, I am lucky to work for someone that I both admire and serves me as a mentor.
