This is my second review in 2 months. I had such a good experience with upgrading of my sprinkler system, I decided to use Andrew and his team to clean, clear and evaluate my irrigation drain system. It was quite extensive and unknown to me. First Andrew discovered all the drain openings (some were previously unknown others covered over or clogged intentionally by the previous owner.) Next he explained that irrigation pipes are fragile and must be cleared by high pressure water insertion. In clearing each drain opening he determined the water flow path and direction. I now have a map of how the water is designed to flow out to the street from my back yard. It turns out that I have two paths on both sides of my house. Both were obstructed by tree and plant growth of sixteen years. Each needed to be replaced and rerouted in my front yard or all the clear drains in my back yard would back up. Each repiping and new pop up emitters were added with no destruction of my lawn, bushes or trees. When all was finished no one could see cosmetically any difference but the water flows great from my back yard out to the street. He not only demonstrated the flow but he showed me the clear path with a camera that was inserted to document the job. Well done! Once again Andrew took great effort to explore before making recommendations to me. Each step was presented a a separate invoice with options for my choice. When approaching the project Andrew explained that drains can be a great unknown and surprise. There were occasional surprises and obstacles, but I had options. Each step that I was invoiced for allowed me to quit and each step provided improvements . The confidence I developed with Andrew and his expert team convinced me to see this to its conclusion. I don't regret it. In fact, I couldn't be happier. A project like this can be scary. I was able to move forward because Andrew made sense, kept his word, did outstanding work and made it affordable by listening to me and being creative throughout the whole project. DO NOT HIRE SHRUBGATOR! I had a leak in my main irrigation line that meant it had to be replaced. At the same time we decided to have a new domestic water line run to the house so we could modernize the system (old house) all at the same time. We brought some irrigation contractors out and got a few quotes. We needed 110 feet of main irrigation line buried one foot deep, and connection to one valve near the first 40 feet of that run from the street. Andrew said he would be here to give a quote in the morning of a certain day. That morning came and went, and I had to ask him when I was to expect him. He said he was "caught up on another job" and would have to come another morning. That's fine, every other irrigation contractor I spoke to was really busy, so I wasn't that bothered. His next appointment came and went and I had to text him again. He was still "finishing up another job", and said he would come at 12pm. He finally showed up at 12pm, but he and his worker didn't have masks. I wore one myself, and walked them through the job. Andrew wasn't the cheapest quote I had received, but he said he could finish the job at the same time the plumbers were working so that it could be completed before my wife and I left for Fourth of July weekend. This was middle of summer and my plants were going to be dying soon if they didn't get water, so schedule was important. We were leaving on Friday, he was scheduled to do the work before on Wednesday and Thursday. And of course, Wednesday morning comes and goes and he texts me to tell me that he won't be able to start until Thursday. I told him it has to be done before Friday, because we're leaving town and I need to inspect the work before paying him. He says he can't guarantee it will get done by Thursday, but that he can work Friday while we're out of town and he'll text me pictures, and if everything looks good, I can pay via electronic invoice. Okay, that sounds good. They do a bit of digging on Thursday, but only work between 8am and 3pm. They dig a shallow trench, maybe 4-6" about three quarters of the total run they need to dig. We leave early Friday morning before they come to start work. I wait for their pictures. Andrew sends pictures and it's difficult to tell, but it looks like they didn't dig the trench any deeper than they had the previous day, but the pipe was laid in and connected? I take a closer look, and I also see that they missed the connection to the valve serving the front yard. I asked him about this and he said "that valve wasn't connected to the main line there". Where else would it be connected?? I also tell him that the trench doesn't look deep enough. They were supposed to bury it one foot down. He said "the dirt was really hard, the trench is 8-10 inches the entire way, and the line will still have a few inches of dirt over the top which is enough." THIS IS A MAIN IRRIGATION LINE... serving my entire property. I don't want it to become exposed over time because it was only buried just below the top soil, or have it be hit with a shovel sometime when I or my wife are working there in the future. He had agreed to bury it 1 foot below the ground! He proceeded to send me an invoice for the full remainder of the payment, around $700. I told him I wasn't paying until I could confirm the work was done per our agreement, because his explanations and pictures weren't adding up. I was out of town so that wouldn't happen until Wednesday of the next week. He then went on a really rude rant accusing me of stiffing him, and told me he wouldn't turn on the water til I paid. I had to explain to him that I wasn't going to pay for work that wasn't performed in the manner we agreed to. They charged $700 to bury the one 1 foot deep, why would I accept a 5" deep trench? He then called, and we agreed that I would pay a progress payment of $500, with $200 remaining until the job was finished to my satisfaction. We agreed that he would fix any work required per the contract. I return home on Wednesday in the afternoon, and this guy seriously dug a 5" trench the entire way, completely missed the valve connection, and on top of that, when digging the trench he cut the wire to the valve in question with a shovel, which means they knew it wasn't working. I text him pictures of exactly what is wrong, and why he needs to come fix it and he won't respond respond to my texts or multiple phone calls for over a week. I tell him that if he doesn't return my call, I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company, because he didn't deliver what I paid for. He still ignores me. In the meantime I had to hire another contractor to come in and fix the work they did. I am still dealing with the CC company, it's been months. They take short cuts, and take no responsibility for their mistakes when you call them out, or live up to their agreements. THEY ARE NOT LICENSED or bonded. I contacted ShrubGator on June 8th for a project that I had. They responded that evening and set an appointment for June 10th between 8am-10am. 10am came and went and they were a no-call and no-show. I messaged them to ask about our appointment and I was told that they got caught up at another job but they would be here at 2pm. It's now 4:30pm and again they were a no-call, no-show. I reached out to shrubgator via the phone number on their website. I had been looking for someone knowledgeable to fix the sprinkler system at my mom's house for quite a while. She lives in an older house in San Bernardino and her sprinklers are probably just as old. Although I had to reschedule once on my end, they were very prompt and provided excellent customer service, which is rare these days. They replaced all of her valves and a few sprinklers. Everything is running great now and my mom couldn't be happier because she doesn't have to move the sprinkler hose around the yard anymore. I am sad. I really liked Andrew. He is knowledgeable in what he does. He explains the work to be done thoroughly. He came and finished a project my elderly husband had trenched and started all the PVC piping. He needed to finish bringing the PVC pipes together and connecting them to valves. Then to install a timer job. Right off the bat he was suppose to be over at 8-10am June 24th, then he text they had another customer a head of us and would not be here till 12:00. Okay things happen, not a problem. He showed up at 1:00; So he was scheduled to finish up June 25th, again another text they are at another job wrapping it up and would send me an eta. They arrived at 12:30 which they had planned to be here at 10:00. They were done by 3:00 and would return June 26th they would be here by 8. They install the timer and release valves in each 3 beds. They came and finished up the project. He did a great job and was fair with his prices. My disappointment is this; We were having a problem with bed 2. For some odd reason that bed was flooding. So we assumed me have a leak at the elbow below the bed, which did no present itself when Andrew tested the lines June 26th when he finished up. We got back from a trip and the timer was scheduled to go off July 6th. The water went off but would not shut off. My husband turned off the system but for some odd reason it was still going off and flooding that bed. So we tried to work with the timer thinking it was the timer not working right. So we gave it some time to try to fix it our self but when July 13th came around we realized there must be a broken pipe under the bed. So I we shut off all the water but the timer then started going off twice a day for 30 minutes. So I texted Andrew July 13th and told him what was happening and sent him a picture of the problem. He contacted me back and said no problem he can come July 16th. So July 16th comes around he said he would be here between 12-2pm. So we waited and then he texted me and he apologized he had to reschedule because he got hung up at another job. So July 18th. We still have all the water off on the beds however, the water would not stop running in that bed still flooding my vegetables. July 18th came around he texted me again he ended up getting held up at another job and so he can't come till July 21st. I explained to him that my garden is still flooding and killing my plants. I told him I have to find someone else. No reply from him. I felt at this moment we are elderly and he felt these other clients jobs were more important then our emergency. DO NOT USE THIS GUY! DISHONEST AND DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING. Hired him to repair sprinkler line and replace water pressure gauge. He seemed nice and repaired sprinkler for me before. He abandoned the job and still owes me $200.00.I mistakenly paid him $500 in full because i was going to be out of town. He dug several holes in my lawn & said he replaced the valve but that he had to leave because he was feeling sick but would send me a full refund within a week. I returned home to my grass and planters all dug up with open holes and no landscape water whatsoever. i tested him & he said he had covid. When someone else was hired to finish the job, which I had to pay additional for, they could not figure out why the landscape water would not work but they fixed the sprinkler & filled up the holes, etc that he left ($200 later). I had to get a plumber to come out and we found that Andrew had 1. cut my main pipe and put a smaller fitting on to fit the incorrect size pressure regulator that he bought. 2. installed the pressure regulator BACKWARDS! There are arrows on the regulator showing which way it goes. 3. while installing it backwards, he broke my shut off valve and left water leaking continuously & possible caused leak in main line to house. In the meantime by grass was dying from no water. I'm a widowed mother who knows nothing about landscaping. I trusted him, paid him in full and believed him when he said he would provide a full refund. When I tried to contact him about none of the water working, he said it was working when he left - which is a lie because the regulator was on backwards so there's no way it could work. I had to pay additional for someone to come correct his mistakes, fix the bad repair he made, fill in the holes, repair the sprinkler, etc at a substantial additional cost to me - did you offer to assist with those costs? No and then he still keeps $200 of mine instead of refunding as he promised. I will take him to court to recoup my $200 along with additional damages for filling holes, repairing sprinkler, fixing pressure regulator, fixing shut off valve, water wasted from leak in the shut off valve, damage to yard and grass due to water being shut off and replacing the house regulator (which had a domino effect of now requiring new toilets because the pressure was way too high for the whole time he left it broken, etc). He was also very unprofessional, cursing at me over text and saying he was being blames for an inferior system! lol. I have his texts and photos of his shoddy work and the damage to my yard so I hope to get made fully whole now. I would have been satisfied with the full refund but since he is refusing, I will get full restitution any way I can. The worst experience I have ever had with any personal home repair person. He also missed several appointment times, and didn't even show up on days we had scheduled repair so he isn't reliable in that way either. Andrew of Shrubgator initially came across as polite, competent, and concerned. From then on it went downhill fast. Frequently he failed to show when scheduled and did not communicate. He left work undone and leaks everywhere and even left dug-up sprinkler lines (deep holes) exposed and 20 flags that required his attention. Before he was 1/3 into the job, he said that he was broke and needed more upfront money beyond his OVER 10% down payment. It took him 2+ hours to replace two, valve connections. When I started to complain to him he fabricated all kinds of stories that I was a racist and beyond! WTF!? As far as I'm concerned he is a con man and a thief because he took what money I paid him and never returned. He even borrowed my tools to make his "work" more efficient, but he never finished any aspect of the job, always with an excuse. He is a total amateur. He "worked" maybe 4 hours/day and took 2-hour lunches. Now I am left with a Shrubgator mess! I've reported him to the BBB and to Amex to try and get some of my money back.
