Karaoke spot with private rooms and a very fun place for you to sing your heart out. Also definitely one of the more affordable karaoke locations in Ktown. I feel like they can work on making their rooms more soundproof as you can hear a lot from the entrance. They have a book where you can choose to key in the songs but I do wish they could add newer songs. Get fruit and drinks while you're there. read more

Yikes to the place. Def has so many five star reviews because of the free bottle of champagne promo they have going on yelp... But like everyone in the room needs to write a review that's five stars to get it? Make sure you check out the menu prices for the Vegas mark up bottle service. Also called to see if they do single cocktails and it's bottle only so be warned. read more

I walked in with my friends and asked for the price. The gentleman at the front first asked for all of our ID's. After we handed them to him he said the price so we started talking amongst ourselves to see if we wanted to do it. He was eavesdropping on our conversation and then kicked us out for "cursing." He said that we were being disrespectful for cursing and that he doesn't want our "kind of people" in his establishment. We are all young and recently turned 21 so maybe he thought we were underage but we were not. He was very hostile from the beginning and made us feel uncomfortable. DO NOT COME HERE. read more

If this review were just for the service and the comp champagne birthday promotion, I would give five stars. It was also one of the only places I contacted in KTown that could accommodate 25+ people. One other venue I contacted could host 50 people, but they were booked. The room was beautiful and clean. Food and alcohol packages I ordered that were mandatory to reserve the room were just okay; not great bang for buck. My main gripe is that when we got settled in our room we were informed that their karaoke catalog was out of date and if we wanted new songs or Spanish songs, we should connect to YouTube through our phone. For how expensive this place is (in terms of mandatory orders for larger group sizes) and the fact that ads would pop up when we pulled up a song on YouTube, this took away from our experience. I could have just had people over at my house, connected two microphones at home and pulled up YouTube for much less. Unfortunately, due to the overall cost, I'm not sure I would go back. read more

I got called a few hours after my group left and was accused of stealing a bottle when no one in my group took anything or even drank any hard liquor that night. I paid for the room myself and checked out myself, as it was my birthday event. To the group that accused us: maybe instead of asking for my personal information to accuse and yell at me, ask management how they lost your items and what responsibility they will take for it. To Shrine staff and anyone else that is considering coming here: I would never recommend coming to Shrine karaoke if you like being treated with dignity. read more

If you're trying to go somewhere to sing, this place isn't it. I go to karaoke pretty frequently and this was the most mediocre place I've ever been -- there was probably a total of 20 songs I recognized in that entire book. Also they charge $400+ for $50 bottles of tequila which seems to me as an intentional scam to get intoxicated people to mistakenly buy it in the moment. I totally understand an increased charge as every place does but 8 times the amount? Unethical in my opinion. Stop by if you're looking for fever dream type of experience cause the only thing you'll be leaving with is cold sweats, intense stress, and maybe some trauma. read more

We had a wonderful birthday celebration at Shrine Karaoke in KTown! The music selection had EVERYTHING as far as well could tell... we sang mostly English plus a Spanish song or two. The front desk attendant, Jason, was super-helpful with our text / phone reservations questions, and then getting us going for the party! Also, after reading rough reviews from a few other places we were thinking of going to, I was worried about hidden fees... but at Shrine there were NO bill surprises! Very fair. We came here a bit confused, but the guys at the front were super helpful and got us going! Place looks cool (but dirty and unkept) and they use YouTube Karaoke. There's a lot of hidden fees and they charge based on the room they put you in so if you're a small group but only have a large room available they'll put you in it without asking or even letting you know. They also basically force you to get the combo deal instead of just renting the room by hour. Food is mid. Whether you'll have fun is up to you, lowkey scammy. read more

I'm guessing the only reason this place has so many 5 star reviews is that they have a notice in their bathrooms saying if you rate them 5 stars and show them the review, you'll get something complimentary. Because there is no way this is a 5-star establishment. 1) You have to use YouTube to play music. Why are we paying a premium for karaoke when we're literally finding songs on YouTube? 2) The sound quality of the mics are not good. Cheap and very quiet. And I'm a loud girl. I just ditched the mics and started singing without them. 2) Food is expensive for its cheap quality. Their mozzarella sticks were weirdly powdery and gritty, like they were freezer-burned. A fruit platter was $34 for some grapes and watermelon. 3) We were told we couldn't get more plates for our food because the upstairs restaurant took it. What? So some of our party ended up sharing their plates with others. 4) This skinny guy working there was a bit rude. He was on his phone and didn't seem to care to answer my questions. The only reason why I'm not giving it 1-star is because there is plenty of parking, the service was decent, and the design of the place is neat. The place needs maintenance, though. If you drink alcohol, it pairs well with sips of Makgeolli and Korean beer. Not mixed together, but sipped separately and taking turns between bites. I feel it really enhances the flavors of the food. Eating all of this simple yet decadent food and throwing back the Makgeolli and beer in between bites kind of transported me to how I imagine the royalty feasted during the Joseon Dynasty! At the end, I was so happy, satisfied, and luxuriating in my fullness!!! I didn't want to get up and end this feeling of bliss. We never felt rushed, but I'm so glad we got there before the dinner rush because as we walked out of the restaurant, the line outside the door was getting very long. Make sure you get there before 5pm to have a better chance of getting seated right away and to avoid having to wait in such a long line. This is in fact a popular dining destination for good reason.

Once seated inside, they welcomed you with their signature banchan dishes: the nutty boribap (보리밥), which tastes great on its own but even better with their yeolmu kimchi (radish water kimchi). There's also their tasty radish kimchi and napa kimchi. Throughout the meal, they replenished our banchan multiple times without us asking. We tried two of the new items: Galbi Kalguksu: A delicious, deep-flavored bone broth with knife-cut noodles, shredded fried egg, sliced radish, and scallions. The meat fell off the bone, and I loved the broth, though my husband thought it was a little on the saltier side. Perilla Oil Makguksu: Cold buckwheat noodles in perilla oil. Mixed with sliced shiitake mushrooms, shredded perilla leaf, gim (seaweed), sesame seeds, and scallions. It's a deliciously light refreshing dish if you don't want the heavy knife-cut noodle dishes. Last, I ordered the Non-spicy Seafood Kalguksu. It comes with a anchovy broth with a lot of seafood flavors. It's a lighter broth than the galbi but still rich in flavor. It came with clams, mussels, shrimps and 1/2 crab. There was also sliced pumpkin and zucchini. Everything tasted great. Their servers were very attentive and generous with replenishing the side dishes, and overall it was a wonderful experience. If you see a line and don't mind waiting 15-30 minutes, it moves pretty quickly, so don't be deterred by it.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.

I have been here a few times for dinner but this was first time for brunch. I made a reservation, was asked to confirmed reservation 3x, noted it was celebrating a birthday and gave no preference on seating. I arrived on time, but one of my group was parking. There were a few people milling around and I was greeted with "checking in?" No hello, no welcome, no mention of celebrating and told to let them know when entire party arrived. (This is becoming more common to be seated along with a $25 per person fee if I canceled less than 24hrs. I know restaurants are struggling but come on!) I watched as 'walk-ins' were given priority tables and when our party was complete, she was squeezing in a 3rd chair to a small cafe table right by the pass through door. No asking our preference. When she returned to seat us, I said "you're not putting us at that small table are you?" Her response - "yes...unless you want to sit inside." How was that not a conversation first? A professional would have said "I apologize, where would you prefer to sit? I see you made a reservation, are celebrating an event and we had some unexpected guests for seating options." Perhaps she was having a bad day, or was still reeling from a prior customer interaction but she was NOT up to the standards I equate with Manuela. Go for the food but don't think by making a reservation you get any special acknowledgement.

Parking can be difficult because its going to be on the street somewhere. Would recommend, but only on special occasions because its pretty expensive in my opinion.

Walking in, I expected absolute chaos because of all the hype, but the restaurant wasn't overwhelmingly busy. There were actually quite a few empty tables waiting for later reservations. I understand that's how reservations work, but it did make me wonder if some of the "impossible to book" reputation is a bit overblown. The space itself is beautiful. The live wood-fired grill in the center of the dining room is definitely the highlight, and I loved the communal tables that create a warm, lively atmosphere. The warm cornbread with cultured butter was easily the best thing we ordered and an absolute must. It arrived piping hot, incredibly fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness, and paired perfectly with the rich, creamy butter. The baby albacore was outstanding--fresh, buttery, and perfectly seasoned. It practically melted in my mouth. The beef and eggplant stew, served with fresh tortillas, was another winner: rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. The only dish that didn't really land for me was the pork chop. The cut wasn't my favorite and, despite being cooked well, it tasted surprisingly underseasoned. The mashed potatoes, however, were silky, buttery, and honestly the best part of that plate. Dessert was enjoyable, especially the warm skillet cake with vanilla ice cream, but like much of the meal, it was very good rather than unforgettable. One thing that did catch me off guard was the automatic 4% surcharge added to the bill. It's disclosed, but it's still something to be aware of before dining. Overall, Dunsmoor is absolutely a five-star restaurant. The ingredients are top quality, the execution is thoughtful, the service is polished, and the atmosphere is unique. I just don't personally understand the level of hype surrounding it. I'm glad I finally experienced it, but it's not the kind of place where I'll be watching for the next reservation release. If friends wanted to go, I'd happily join them, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to book another reservation myself.
