Disappointing Experience: Damaged Furniture w/ Poor Resolution & Issues with Pests and Unit/Property (SEE PHOTOS)
Damaged Furniture w/ Poor Resolution:
My experience with Shoreview Flats has unfortunately been far from satisfactory. Upon moving in, things seemed promising - the location and property. However, what followed later soon turned my positive expectations upside down.
The defining moment of my utter disappointment came when Shoreview Flats hired vendor, SmartRent, damaged my furniture while installing equipment in my unit. This resulted in a large black stain on my tan colored sectional. When I reported the issue same day to management, their response was incredibly lackluster. They displayed an alarming lack of concern & passing blame to only the vendor, as if damaging my belongings was not their responsibility as well.
After continuous back & forth between management & vendor holding them liable for their negligence their proposed resolution was nothing short of insulting in which later went ignored and unfulfilled. They suggested if I choose to move forward with couch cleaning & the stain is not removed, and I choose to purchase a new couch a new concession would be requested. The other option was to file a claim on my insurance, which I was not doing since the damage was caused by Shoreview Flats & its vendor. After going with first option that ultimately did not work I continuously reached out about the matter in which there was no urgency to rectify the issue. Greystar corporate was unresponsive when called & left VMs numerous times. After continuous emails to vendor, property manager, Nora, & Sr Regional Property Manager, Jamie Matsuno, finally reached out. Jamie was not helpful and continued to deny responsibility. On top of withholding Shoreview Flats insurance information when asked multiple times, my request was NOT fulfilled by Shoreview Flats/SmartRent as they stated I was granted a concession (provided comps on couches to buy). Jamie then went on to IGNORE me and my requests not responding to my emails last one dated 11/14/23.
It became apparent that they were not taking responsibility for their mistake or showing any genuine concern for the situation as their tenant. It is truly disheartening to witness such negligence & blatant disregard from local management to Sr management that are supposed to uphold standards of care and customer service for their tenants.
Pest / Trash:
Pest issues has gotten worse over the years. Mainly roaches, gnats, & flies in & out apt. Had to be on a routine pest schedule. My unit was close to the trash chute. The smell can be bad towards the units close to chute. Also, a lot of flies & gnats in hallway & by door that would enter unit. Hallways can be dirty & have roaches/ dead bugs for days. Had issues numerous times with valet trash as they would pickup trash on my side of the hallway before the pickup time of 8pm.
Issues of Unit & Property:
Unit is on 1st floor close to the trash chute and exit door. It is under a unit that has more than 1 bedroom so noise can be an issue depending on tenants above in which I had continuous issues entire lease term. The walls are thin and the baseboards in unit doesn't have the "base shoe" you usually see at the bottom of baseboards which looks unfinished. Small bugs often get caught in the cracks. I was told by the old property manager, Tori, that the builder decided not to finish them in some units. I had two huge random water leaks on the livingroom/hallway shared wall on two separate occasions but they never found an "issue or cause" of the leaks. For the property to not be that old it definitely has gone downhill.
I strongly advise prospective renters to exercise caution and consider the potential risks associated with inadequate customer service and lack of accountability. I hope this review also prompts the management to reflect on their practices and improve their treatment of residents in all. read more
