My wife and I have been bringing our kids to Shore Point since 2010. This little place is located at 205 Broadway in Point Pleasant Beach, three short blocks from the beach. The PPB boardwalk starts at the beach, and 1/2 mile from that point are the Jenkinson's attractions, including the famous Martell's Tiki Bar, Jenkinson's Amusements (rides, games, arcades) and Jenkinson's Aquarium.
As for the Shore Point, the hotel itself has a fairly large pool, BBQ area and poolside seating. Free parking, beach passes, well-kept rooms, excellent A/C units, and basic cable are some of the good things about this place. What's great is the service - when they could probably get away with impersonal, uninterested and uncaring staff, everyone we've dealt with at Shore Point has been welcoming, upbeat, happy and eager to help us have the best vacation ever. We've never had a problem with the rooms, never had a conflict with any employees or fellow guests or anything of the sort. Frankly, if Disneyland wasn't already the Happiest Place On Earth, the Shore Point would be a strong contender for the title, at least for our family.
All of that being said, here are two things that some people my age or younger may count as negatives (I don't, and you'll see why):
1) No wi-fi, except public wi-fi as provided by Optimum / Comcast / TWC for their customers. I don't see this as a negative, because this is the Jersey Shore and really, if you're in the room enough to be sitting on a computer or phone or tablet and needing wi-fi, your priorities are a bit out of whack. If you absolutely need it, there's great cell coverage in the area for Verizon (my wife and I haven't ever had less than three or four bars). If you're considering having your kids watch Netflix or something like it on their phones or iDevices or whatever, consider instead buying/renting from the Apple Store or Google Play store before you leave home, as these will allow you to save whatever movie you buy or rent to the device rather than stream it, and you won't kill your data plan in the process.
2) Basic cable by Comcast. I've been to a few other hotels, chain hotels, and they didn't even have TV Guide Network, which Shore Point is lucky to have. However, I go back to my previous comment to iterate again that this isn't really a negative - you're not going to the Jersey Shore to sit in your hotel room and watch TV, you're going to do touristy things like sit on the beach and roast (or, as I do, broil) while the kids play in the water, or play games on the boardwalk, or just take a nice stroll along the boardwalk, or stick the kids in the room with a babysitter and go to Martell's, as we plan to do at some point on one of our future visits.
The rooms have showers, towels, soap, coffee pots, toasters, microwaves, stovetops (no ovens), refrigerators, flat-screen TVs (as mentioned before), and extra pillows. There are two big areas for the hotel - the big apartment-sized rooms near the pool, and the smaller rooms out front near the main office. The smaller rooms are two main rooms and the bigger rooms have three main rooms.
Parking is included; you get one space unless there's room; if not, you've got street parking - and keep the meter fed because PPB PD is on top of that. The front area has traditional parking set up; the rear area has four spots, one for each room in the back. We don't mind; we've only got the one car, but I know some people like to bring both cars, so that's why I figured I'd point this out.
Also, while there is a train station to PPB, it's about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile away from the hotel, depending on where you get off the train. Really, I wouldn't recommend the train for anything but day trips, as PPB and the beach community doesn't really have local bus service - bikes sure, but not buses, and taxis can get pricey fast.
There's plenty of places to eat and order from nearby, there's a Stop & Shop in town and a Shoprite just up Rt. 35, as well as a Wawa, and a Walmart, Target and Kmart in Brick. BK and McDonalds are down the road, where Rt. 35 meets Rt. 88. Again, though, this would be why we'd recommend bringing the car and skipping the train. It might be cheaper and more gas friendly, but it's more difficult, if not impossible to get around for basic necessities that you might need (for example, Wawa coffee... lol). read more
