She actually met her first reps because she did a Class Act production. It was a safe, nurturing as well as inspirational environment for her to get an introduction to the industry, while making everything about it feel joyful and exciting! She has been signed for nearly 6 years and is now in High School and still working with CANY'S staff today. I highly recommend it as a starting ground for both young and older children who have an interest in musical theater, or other areas of the performing arts. Even if kids don't have professional aspirations, there are many other benefits of taking classes and doing shows with them. This is a great community, with a caring and dedicated teachers. Your child will learn from top industry professionals, as well as make long lasting friendships. Working with CANY's knowledgeable instructors builds confidence and discipline, which are invaluable skills for all young people to acquire, and children will also create many special memories that last a lifetime.

She is never rude or condescending and when she gives feedback it is because it is necessary for growth as a performer. She is a very caring teacher who will follow up with suggestions or things she thinks about that might be good for you even if it is not your scheduled lesson. The Broadway Mentors Program has some fantastic teachers who come in to run master classes. They are small so that the student can get more personal attention. They are not the 3rd understudy of a role - most are Tony award winners or someone very experienced in the real world of this business. As for pricing, anyone knowledgable of what voice and acting lessons cost in Manhattan or other studios know that her prices are quite reasonable. I am providing a review of the Chrystie Street Ballet Academy (CSBA). My daughter started with…read morepre-Ballet lessons at four years old during the summer. At the time, the location was at the original Chrystie Street studio. Prior to the lessons at CSBA, we had tried different ballet studios in other boroughs. The other dance studios cannot compare to how impeccable the CSBA lessons were. The ballet instructors, classes, and overall lessons were considered to be top-notch. The CSBA instructors were absolutely engaging, professional, and most importantly knew how to engage young children in class. Their overall program and curriculum were organized and planned out very well for classes of different levels. Because of the relocation, to our dismay, we were unable to make future lessons due to scheduling. As a result, we had to find a different studio. That also meant we had to continue to search for another ballet school that provided at least a similar positive experience we had at CSBA. After months of contacting schools and trials - we felt discouraged and disappointed in not being able to land a school that was comparably close to CSBA. We actually had a hiatus, and had to resort to other activities. Fast forward to the pandemic, CSBA announced their classes were going to be on Zoom! Not sure if that was a blessing in disguise for us - but it was certainly an opportunity for us to once again, relish in the CSBA world again! The announcement came as a huge surprise and we could not be any more excited. Not to say that the in-person classes can ever be replaced - nothing can ever top that, but if this was the next best approach, we will take it! It is not a simple feat to turn an in-person instructional methodology into an online platform - but the entire CBSA program was converted almost flawlessly. This was a Herculean effort by the entire program, that continues to deserve huge praises for their hard work. After months of lessons, we continue to enjoy the quality standards of CSBA - the ballet teachers continue to give their best instruction, even in the midst of this unprecedented time. We feel very fortunate to have had the chance to be a part of such an amazing ballet studio - so that the students will continue to learn and hone the skills for ballet. Thank you Ms. Mindy for all your hard work and efforts in making CSBA so extraordinary!

Yesterday when I picked her up, she was waiting patiently in line for a sticker after class when the instructor told her she didn't behave well enough for a sticker, maybe next time, as she handed every other child a sticker. Then, the instructor proceeded to hand out munchkins to all the kids in her class, even some younger siblings, and only excluded my daughter. I called and spoke with the woman at the front desk, who just defended the instructor. When I asked why no one spoke with me if my daughters behavior was a problem, she said they usually speak with a parent after multiple incidents, and this was just the first time. Apparently, this punishment was because my daughter was moving in the opposite direction she was directed to, which shows how developmentally inappropriate a 90 minute class is for a 4 year old, and the lack of training the instructor must have had. I would call this bullying, and will not be sending my daughter back. I am appalled she was treated this way and I will be more careful about whose care I leave her in when selecting another dance studio to try.

Very awkwardly she replied "oh, hi, yeah, she's a pain but yeah". After I realized what she just said to me I snapped my head back in her direction but she was gone. Diplomatically (and laden with Irish guilt) my wife emailed the studio to open a line of communication about whether or not my daughter was misbehaving during the lesson. We can say with 100% certainty that she was well behaved during the lessons because our nanny was present during them. Her email reply made no sense and she tried to tell me that she didn't say it......she tried to say that a young lady who assists her did. The poor thing wasn't anywhere near us. That experience opened my eyes to the rudeness of this particular instructor, and my radar for it was up. We picked up other nuanced rudeness but we paid for the entire course and were fearful of not having a refund. There are other stories of moms having arguments with her, but those are not my stories so I have no right to say them here. The studio is up two flights of stairs with no elevator, making it tough to manage a stroller or a second child. Sure, you can leave the stroller outside, but what happens in the rain or when a vagrant walks away with it??
