But when I (finally) switched over to my fall shoes that I hadn't seen since before the pandemic, because there was no where to go, I found a couple pairs of boots that needed some love. I have to admit, I almost walked out of here and gave up a few times. When I came in, Bob immediately said he couldn't help me and acted like he didn't want my business. I was shocked to encounter this kind of treatment, since the reviews were so good. But I needed my shoes repaired, so I dug in a little deeper on why he felt he couldn't repair them and we were able to come up with a way to fix both pairs. He at one point told me he couldn't polish my white boots and gestured to all the colors of polish he had, and I was the one who picked out the "vanilla" he ended up using that matched perfectly. Again, the vibe was he didn't even want to try to find a solution to my shoe repair needs. The next shock was the price - $40 to fix each pair! This was more than I had paid for both shoes, because one pair were 90s vintage given to me by mom mom and the other were a beautiful pair of cowboy boots given to me by a friend. Both needed a heel replacement and a little polish. The 90s vintage ones needed some gluing on the heel. Again, I almost walked out, but I gave him my money and hoped for the best. What I got was actually a pretty good shoe repair. Was it $40 worth? Not really. But I am happy with the result. Bob was also MUCH nicer when I came back. And the shoes were done a day early, which was great. I think all things considered, I would come back here, because I know they do a good job. Almost didn't get there, though. I hope I don't encounter the same customer service issues next time.

I wore them so much that the rubber soles began peeling away only a few years into owning them, and I've kept them in my shoe closet for maybe about 9 years since. I finally decided to look into getting them repaired. Michael had done such a wonderful job with replacing my worn-out nomasei moccasin soles, that I came back to see if he could revive my sandals. As you might expect from anything inside a subway station, it's a little grimy in here. It's a tiny little hallway of a shop, it's wildly crowded with all sorts of shoe paraphernalia, and it looks more like a hoarder's closet than a place of business. Surprisingly enough, there are actually TWO businesses working out of this tiny space. There's a Chinese guy repairing watches, and also a Hispanic dude repairing shoes. I have yet to get my watch repaired here, but I can report that the proprietor of the shoe repair shop (not sure if his name is Pyon) takes pride in his work. He took my old, broken down boots, and resoled them wonderfully. Check out the before/after photos. He even shined them up, AND switched out my old grimy laces. I don't think that's standard, they probably just offended his sensibilities. In any case, my boots look like new now, and while it wasn't exactly cheap, I'm grateful for the quality work. I'll be back.

The leather soles were cracked on both shoes, cracked beyond repair. I thought he should just toss them (or chuck them - see what I did there). But...Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, so.... $45 bucks later and the chukka boots were brought back from the dead! This little wonder of a shop reconstructed them and they now have a whole new life.
