The development of this came…read morealong with the booming of the shoe industry and most of the families that are native to the city made a living out of making and selling shoes. Thus, writing about Marikina wouldn't be complete without paying attention to the Marikina Shoe Trade located in the Marikina Sports Center establishment. The Marikina Shoe Trade is an attempt to gather the remaining shoe businesses in a place where people, locals and tourists, can easily buy their products. As a Marikenyo, this is the first place I go to when I have to buy new shoes. The quality is excellent and the price is not expensive. The design usually stands in between fashionable and functional. Depending on the brand, it may more toward one side of the spectrum. Some brands favor a classic style, others trendy. Sometimes, a few pairs whose style have already been out-of-fashion may find their way on the display, but don't let that discourage you from checking this place out. From experience, I would often find the pair of shoes I need. Marikina Shoe Trade has a lot of black school shoes, casual shoes and sandals, high-heeled shoes, wedges, and men's shoes. Pampasok ba ng hanap mo o pampasyal? You would most likely find a pair here. Just a word of warning: the alleys are not very spacious so if you intend to buy shoes during peak seasons (beginning of school year, graduation season, store sale), the place may be cramped.

I may have more pairs than I'd like to admit, and I may or may not be waiting on another pair. Ahem. Their showroom in White Plains shows a wonderful picture of what inspires the creators of Renegade Folk and what they have in mind when they let their creativity shine. Their inspiration and creativity is inspiring, in turn, to me and I feel compelled to create and appreciate what creations have been brought into the world. If you're looking for your next summer pair, then I would recommend you give their store a visit. They have an online store, but their space is such a treat to visit I'd feel I'd be missing out if I only shopped online from them. All-in-all the experience is invigorating, if only to explore the creative space. It's clear that they're not just selling fancy shoes. They have a wonderful vision.

And because of that, I'm proud to say that my absolute favorite shoe store comes from Manila - it's none other than Renegade Folk. I was a fan already during their The Ramp Glorietta days. Their designs transitioned, their branding also got a lot better and I believe they already ship their products overseas. The sandals is a wear-and-tear kind of shoe. Aesthetics wise, their sandals are usually plain so it's very easy to match with any outfit. Quality comes with a price so expect to pay PHP1800 per sandal. Comfort wise, they are very comfortable. I own about 4 pairs already! I'm so happy they opened their independent shop; it's a bit far from where I'm based in Manila but the trip is always worth it!

It seems old because it looks run down and unaesthetically pleasing. It reminded me of the LA mall in terms of aesthetics, with that 90's decor look. I wouldn't go shopping for clothes here, I went here to eat and go grocery shopping when I did. If it wasn't home to the largest shoe in the world I would've given it 2 stars but that large shoe is in the Guinness book of world records, which is cool.

This is not a posh shopping center but it is home to many outlet stores: World Balance, Nike, Adidas, Michaela, and Shubbiz to name a few. Also located here is the Marikina Shoe Gallery which features Marikina shoe brands; you can find casual shoes, high heels, school shoes and even ballroom dancing shoes. There are also other establishments comprising this so-called center: the Riverbanks Hotel, the Philippine Science Centrum which is a popular science field trip venue for students, the econ Building where Nuat Thai is located, and the Riverbanks Ampitheatre where the 2014 fireworks festival was held. But, there is something in Riverbanks Center that makes it very important for a city known as the Philippines' Shoe Capital; it houses the Guinness Book of World Record's largest pair of shoes. This pair measures 5.29 meters long, 2.37 meters wide and 1.83 meters high. Ten people could fit inside. (I should know for I saw my tito, who was one of the makers, stand inside one shoe together with his co-makers for a photo op.) To see this man-made wonder, visit the Riverbanks Center.

During that time, I would sneakily peak on what he's browsing on his phone or what's going on in his newsfeed. I found that he's really into this certain blue Roshe sneaker and I thought to get it for his birthday then. Long story short, I didn't find it. But I ended up in Sole Academy and got him an Internationalist with the same color scheme. Did he like it? He was ecstatic. He wasn't expecting it at all and when I told him the story of how I looked far and wide, high and low for that Roshe, he was touched and simply said that, whatever it is as long as it came from me, he'd treasure it. :) PROS: They're very active in social media! Make sure to follow them to know when Sole Academy releases new selections. Hurry though, because they run out quick, especially the Roshe and Airmax. Sneakerheads line up and buy a load, so if there's one you really like, you may order/reserve online or make sure you're first in line; Their store's interiors is so beautifully designed that I literally gasped upon entering. And so many handsome shoes!; They have a lot of exclusive selections that you literally cannot find anywhere else. CONS: You may get lost in the jargon or be mesmerized by their ultra-hip store. Don't worry though, their staff's so friendly and helpful, they won't make you feel like a noob. TL;DR: It may be for you or for your sneakerhead significant other/friend/whoever, but whatever lifestyle brand apparel you're looking for, follow or visit Sole Academy for their amazing and expansive choices.

Every time there are new shoe trends, I would immediately go to the nearest shopping mall to buy myself a new pair. One of the shoe stores I regularly visit is the Sole Academy branch in Katipunan. Whenever I am waiting for my sundo, I just go here to check out new shoes that I may want to buy. The best thing about Sole Academy is that they sell more than one brand of shoes. They have Vans, Nike, Adidas, Puma, and many more. I think every person who visits this place is just tempted to buy a new pair of shoes. It's like a haven for all shoe lovers out there. They also have seasonal sales, which is really great if you wish to save more money. If you don't have time to visit this store, you can always go to their website to buy their products online.
