I am happy for those posting about their positive experiences, but you should be aware that our recent service visits were anything but positive. We experienced high-pressure sales tactics and ethically questionable business practices. (We are 20-year loyal customers who just terminated our service contract.) - In the fall of 2023, a technician recommended the immediate replacement of a furnace collector box costing $472, which was later deemed unnecessary by the technician himself. - In the summer of 2024, a technician disabled the A/C unit without prior discussion then dispatched a Shipton's sales rep who recommended a replacement costing $17,396, which was unnecessary. - In the winter of 2024, a technician pressured us to authorize immediate furnace repairs costing $2,112 while threatening to cut off the gas supply, which was unnecessary. Out of the 20 service calls they were late for 16 of them even though I was the first appointment of the day.... totally unacceptable!! The last straw was today when the technician Peter was 50 minutes late and when questioned he said he could never be on time... was only here less than 15 minutes. Called office twice 8:15 and 8:40 .... apparently Pete had to get gas, and on the last call I was told he had arrived at the building... took 14 minutes 8:54 to get up to my door... said it was impossible for him (them) to get to the first appointment on time. Left at 9:06. Asked for the service manager to call back. Was told they would have Sherry Shipton call when she came in. This will be my last service call with Shipton. Sherry never did call .... extremely poor customer service. read more

I have been using Shipton's for close to 10 years and will never use them again. I had a ventor motor replaced in Dec 2020. I paid over $1,200 for this motor replacement. A quick google search said this type of motor should last for around 12 years. It has been making noises so I called them out this week. I had to pay $145 for a service fee for them to tell me there were problems with this motor (it is worn out). They would charge me another $1,200 to replace it. As per Shipton's, their replacement has already worn out in less than 2.5 years. Please know their warranty lasts for 30 days and the manufacturers for 1 year. They will not stand by their work or products. I will never use them again. I would give 0 stars if that was an option. Icing on the cake, they wouldn't even refund the service fee. They are saying this happened becomes it was some part sitting on a shelf for a long time. No one told me that when I was paying over $1,200 for the original repair. I know my furnace will need to be replaced in the near future. That is fine, but if a pay for a part, I expect the part to last a reasonable amount of time. read more

Shiptons installed a furnace in my 90 year old mom's house- same evening a visitor smelled gas - they came back service order said "gas leaks" They fixed it but seemed unconcerned about the potential danger of a gas leak. Also installed a pipe an inch above the floor in front of a set of shelves -they also fixed this -service order said "elderly lady trip" Seems not too professional installation. read more

By far the worst company I have ever dealt with. The technicians are incompetent and the company does not care about their customers. The first AC they installed stopped working on me a couple months into summer. They replaced it a year later after numerous service calls and fighting with the owner. I also had issues with the second AC. I had at least 5 services calls. They did not fix the issue and now they will not return my calls. Save yourself time and money. Find another company. read more

Called Shiptons to book appointment for furnace issue,receptionist answered phone giggling.She finally calmed down enough to take my call.I booked an appointment for a couple of days later and no one showed up for scheduled appointment . I CALLED AGAIN and was told I would be called back shortly to let me know when serviceman would arrive..Never did get a call back. So, first off let me say my furnace broke. I'm not a furnace service technician so that was the initial extent of my knowledge before I called shiptons for service. I had no heat. Service call #1 - someone showed up, opened the cover, reset the furnace and that was about it. He was on the job for less than 10 minutes. 89$ for a piece of paper that said "might be a capacitor issue" the furnace worked for appx. 5 mins after the fellow left. So, I immediatly called Shiptons and informed them that I would need a return call and that my expectation would be that I would not be charged Labour on the return call for the same problem. They agreed. Service call #2(same technician, same problem) - The next day the guy came back and replaced the capacitor. He said that the current was slightly low on it and this was a common problem and he was certain this would fix the issues I was having. The work took about another 10 minutes. After replacing the part the gentleman proceeded to write up a work order/bill. He slyly pushed the paper across the table to me and at the bottom I noted the tax in price was 213$. I laughed to myself(and possibly a little aloud) than inquired as to why I was being charged this price considering the service call the previous day. He righteously informed me that a capacitor switch was a flat rate service and his hands were tied on the matter. I bit my tongue(even though I knew better) and signed the check, After all my furnace was working and that was the object of the activity. 300 odd dollars didn't seem like the end of the world of I had heat .... 5 minutes after the technician left the furnace stopped working. So, I called Shiptons and informed them of my situation. The woman on the phone was very sympathetic and polite. So we arranged for a technician (a different technician by request) to come for a service call asap. Service call #3 (5 days and 300 dollars later) it should be noted that this was a weekend call. The technician showed up, took off his boots and read the service call reports I had laid out on the table. I watched his face carefully for a reaction. He smiled quietly and looked at me, "Ok, sounds like it's a blower motor" he said. He promptly went down to the furnace, removed the cover and looked at the circuit board. He watched the blinking LED to recieve the code from the troubleshooting little light. " yup, blower motor" he said than put the cover back on. He quickly informed me that since it was Saturday there was no chance of getting the part replaced until Monday at the earliest. I grinned to myself and said "ok." So he wrote up a third service call report. This time it did say no charge for this call on the paper. He than informed me there was a chance the capacitor might need to be replaced again with the blower motor if it had been drained due to the problem with the motor. I laughed. Service call #4- I called early Monday morning to confirm someone would be coming to fix the furnace. They said absolutely. Late in the day Monday I made a call to Shiptons (appx 3:30pm) to inquire as to when I should expect to see someone. They let me know lots of people were calling in with furnace issues but, the part had been picked up and someone would be there before 5pm to service the furnace. I laughed. So 5pm the technician showed up and replaced the blower motor with no issue. While doing up the bill I was told I was getting 150 dollars off due to the 300 I had already spent on nothing. Its hard to say if that is the case or not because I dont know what it would have originally cost but I choose to trust I was given some discount. So it was only 600 odd dollars for service call #4. Parts included. The furnace works now. All said and done this week long event cost almost 1000$ and I only lost x amount of money due to lost wages. Although I am pleased with the overall outcome (having heat after not having heat) I cant help but have a sour taste left in my mouth due to timeframe and cost issues. Also two weeks prior to the furnace event I had a 2000$ water heater installed and provided by shiptons. This went smoothly except for the sales person neglecting to tell the service personel my broken heater was a rental and they would need to bring a piece of paper for me to sign getting me out of my rental agreement.. So that was a bit of a pain considering the point that sold me on using Shiptons was the fact that they offered this specific service. Overall the work is good when they get it done. Our old hot water heater stopped working and we couldn't get a part for it, so we decided to replace the whole unit, since it was old and we also wanted to get out from under the thumb of Reliance Home Comfort. Katy was so understanding and helpful to provide a quote and then quickly proceed with scheduling an appt once we decided to give them our business. Marty and Nigel showed up earlier than expected (even phoning ahead to make sure it was OK to come earlier) and completed the removal of the old tank and installing new tank within two hours! They put down drop cloths to keep my carpets clean. They were very professional and pleasant to deal with, answering my questions about the new water tank. The best part: they are dropping off the old water tank at Reliance's office on my behalf. An added service that really made choosing them such a no-brainer. I'm thinking that when we need to replace our furnace, we will be calling Shipton's for that too. read more
