I was picking up donuts and kolaches for the office Monday morning, went through the drive thru a little after 7am. I was mortified to discover the donuts were stale and the kolaches were cold and dry. How embarrassing!! Lunch came around and most of them were still in the box, uneaten. My search continues for the best apple fritter and Um, at this moment, this fritter tops my list!!!!!!!! Omg in the past, I've had fritters that have been greasy, crispy, and maybe 2 tiny pieces of apple. First off Shipley is the best donut in San Antonio lol! But of course just like any other donut shop you wanna go there in the morning. We went there late afternoon. They were just flipping over their donuts, but I don't hold that against them. Lol. Because the staff completely made up for it! The customer service was very good. They treated my seven-year-old awesome with a little bit of extra in there, Oreo milkshake. I decided to get a strawberry lemonade smoothie and it was phenomenal. A great place to take a quick break. Perfect for anybody at the YMCA on Saturdays that have their kids looking for a quick treat after their games. It's your basic donut shop laid-back quiet, very clean. Again, great customer service will win me over every time. I just wish we got there sooner for a couple fresh donuts lol but then again my seven-year-old doesn't care about fresh donuts. My wife and I have been going to this location over five years. Mr. Ming runs an amazing operation. He has wonderful employees that show up everyday with a warm smile. I travel all over the state and visit other Shipley locations. This locations is far the best donut shop that I have visited. Customer service at this location is very hit or miss. I have had very different experiences when I come here. The donuts are okay, and the drive thru moves very quickly. I have never been able to go indoors, as there has been a sign on the outside of the door stating lobby closed, drive thru only. read more

Came here at 7am right after my workout. Lol. They were pretty busy early in the morning. Service great and fast even with long line. I like the chocolate cake donut with the chocolate filling a lot! It's a cake chocolate donut, glazed with icing, with an injection of chocolate custard. It was better and more affordable than the bakeries in the area. The donuts we had late in the day were fresh and moist. Good selection served nice. I was the only customer inside, as I'm looking at the donuts and telling her what I want, she states that I clearly don't know which donuts I want and that she would give me more time and proceeded to go in the back and do things. I'm surprised I've never done a review for this location. This location has been open for over 10 years and it has never failed me! They have a drive thru and usually there is never a line. The outside and inside are clean and welcoming. The donuts are fully stocked! The donuts are flakey and delicious! The coffee is always fresh and hot! The kolaches are very good as well! Where to begin.... I have been a patron of THIS Shipley's for many years, stopping for my morning coffee with tons of creamer and sometimes a tasty treat. I have no complaints on the donuts and kolaches. What I do have an issue with is, the rude staff! On numerous occasions I have received eye-rolls, attitude and have been blatantly lied to. The staff, including the manager is mostly young. I have met one lady there, who is sweet and acts like she wants to be there. Unfortunately, she works primarily at a different location now. My coffee is never filled up to a realistic level, I'm usually getting 3/4 of a cup of coffee and need to ask for them to "fill it up" only for them to over-fill, causing leakage and spills. Today, they took my cup further in the back and I actually feel like the girl spit in the cup. Or my favorite, when you order a large coffee (which is 20oz) only to get a medium coffee ( 16oz, which is only filled 3/4 of the way.) Then, while you're still in the drive thru, ask them why I got a smaller size? Their response, "That IS the large." I've been polite, thanked them, and have gone on with my day. But it should be like this, I shouldn't feel rushed or upset every time I leave an establishment all because the staff that works there, doesn't want to be there. Nice and clean also brand new. Not alot of seating. Kola chest not much in them at all. I prefer Shipley doughnuts but Krispy cream has much better molasses by far. No fountain drinks. Good selection of bottle drinks. read more

Best donuts I've had!! I'm from Los Angeles California and we have Krispy Kreme here which are great, but after trying Shipley's they wow'ed me. Wowza these are some good donuts! I got a cherry filled donut, and my girlfriend got an apple fritter. Mine was good, but hers was GREAT. It was like a handheld apple pie. This location opens up at 5 AM, making it very convenient to grab a dozen on the way in to work. They always have a good selection, and it smells so good when you walk inside the store. OooOohh Dough-Nuts... I love'em and Shipley's makes some really good ones. My favorite are the creme filled, they ROCK, but they are gut busters, but you still have to try them. Also, their Koloches are AWESOME, especially the jalapeno, cheese, and sausage ones!!! I do like the drive thru window that they have on the side of the building and the fact that they give your a military discount for 10%.
