Definitely on the higher end of the tuition scale for dance studios despite more talking than dancing. I find it alarming when my child knows about the personal lives of her adult teachers. If you aren't going to spend thousands to competitively dance, then I suggest choosing another school, as girls who aren't part of the competitive team are treated as second-class citizens with much less opportunity to improve and it is damaging to their self-esteem. All in all, we are much happier at a different studio this year.

I have gone to other places dance recitals where there is clearly a lack of quality compared to here. Lessons. Typically an hour long. They will place you in class according to your dance level. There are classes that range from 3 year olds to older adults to teach you an array from ballet, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, tap, acrobatics, and more. The instructors who teach have been doing this for years! As for the little ones, you'll be amazed at how much they learn. The instructors are quite good with kids and reward them with stickers for good behavior. Lessons are typically held during the school year, but they also offer summer workshops. Also, if you refer other people to attend the school, you will receive a discount! Pictures. Pictures are always professionally done around the beginning of spring or so. I typically got a package of individual and group photo. You can see past group photos once you walk in the building to see what kind of quality you'll be getting. Recital. Recitals are divided according to level: Petite, Intermediate, Junior, Senior. So far they have all been held at Willet Hall in Portsmouth. The opening performances for each recital level are usually done by the Senior company which goes to show what level you can achieve if you keep at it... quite inspirational. By the end of the year, you truly see quality that you pay for. Overall, if you have a kid that is serious about dance, this is the place to go!

My two year old daughter and I attended the Mommy & Me class and it was super fun. Compared to other Mommy & Me classes in the area, it is certainly the most affordable, only $40/6 week session. She then wanted to try hip hop so I put her in the summer camp for hip hop and she loved it. Well when the time came to re register her for fall classes, I took too long and the classes filled up. I wrote the staff explaining how much she really wanted to be in hip hop. Next thing I know I got an email confirming the hip hop registration. I love how involved the staff is with each and every student. I love that anytime I go in to pick my daughter up from class, it's nothing but positive enegery. Although I have never personally been to the school or known anyone who has participated, I was blown away by the talent on display. The recital lasted over three hours and featured multiple age groups performing a variety of dance routines, including modern, tap, African, hip-hop, and ballet. The choreography was impressive and the dancers performed with such professionalism that they could easily take their show to other states and countries. I was also impressed with the body representation on stage. Most professional dancers are thin, but the Turquoise School of Dance had dancers of every body type gracefully and energetically performing. While the majority of the dancers were girls and women, there were a few little boys and a male dancer here and there who all did spectacularly. After seeing the performance, I am considering signing up my 13-year-old for classes. I have never seen a dance studio put on a production as professional as this.
