I bought a Banjo from him some time ago and have to say it was a great instrument at a terrific price! My son is currently taking guitar lessons and it is going really well. He is progressing rapidly and enjoying it thoroughly. The Good: its a local shop and it makes you feel good to support them. The people are cool and the products / repairs are great. Leon is always interesting to talk with and he has comfortable seating in the store. They also have a cool music store feel and parking is pretty good right out front. The Bad: The hours are a little restrictive, but they work out. The Ugly: There is no ugly! Cool folks, great lessons, and interesting location. We dig it! And will continue to come here.

I even looked at places out in Jacksonville, but that kind of distance for getting work done is a bit much. Hoggtowne Music is a locally owned and operated music store here in Gainesville where they not only provide repair services but also carry instruments, rent equipment, and have music lessons in multiple rooms in the building. While their selection of instruments is not huge like you can find in bigger stores, the staff are knowledgeable and they were able to perform the repairs on my guitar without any issues and at a reasonable cost. Definitely recommended!

Arabesque is a dancewear store located in the back of the Thornebrook Village Shopping Center off…read moreof 43rd Street in northwest Gainesville. While most people who need to know about it probably already do, I am reviewing Arabesque here because it's a fine little store run by a very charming lady who obviously cares very much about dance in our town. Expectedly, most of the stock is dancewear and shoes geared towards girls and young women because that's the lion's share of who buys dancewear in Gainesville and who takes dance lessons. However, both UF and Santa Fe have good dance programs and there's a number of men and women therefore into dance--to say nothing of the professional dance and theatre activities going on in town. What really makes Arabesque is the owner: she's a sweet, charming, woman very interested in the business she runs. I went in looking for a rather specialized article of clothing that she didn't have (a mesh top) and she made every effort to try to track down something to suit my needs. I finally found just the thing by American Apparel, but her willingness to help and friendly approach will bring me back to her store should I ever have need to buy anything they might sell.

They were courteous and ready to help us in a tight timeline. I gave my son a watch for graduation the night before the graduation ceremony but didn't fit his wrist. I called a few watch / jewelry stores in Gainesville via google search for option. The first two were a disappointment. I asked a for simple quote on being able to add 1 or 2 links to a new watch with one store wanting to charge $45 for a 5-10 min job and the other vendor would not even bother to quote. Oaks said cost will be around $20 depending on complexity but it is a new omega speedmaster and we know it is straightforward to solve. "We know he wants to wear for graduation so just come in and we will adjust it while you wait" That is exactly what they delivered and very satisfying to make it easy to do business with people who understand service and sense of urgency. They also told me the business has been in Gainesville for a long time and now you know why Thank you Oaks Jewelry!
