TL:DR I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SHINE AS A COMPANY Shine did a great job with the installation and communicating with my utility company. The installation took only a few hours and the crew kept everything very clean. One of their customer service reps, Nikki, walked me through my summary documents and all the support I can expect from Shine going forward. After buying my house, I was interested in getting solar panels for two reasons, 1-take advantage of the 26% tax incentive (reducing to 23% in 2023), and 2-I am concerned about climate change. I got several quotes from providers in the area and figured out what I care about. What stood out to me about Shine was that they use an American manufacturer, they have and honored a guaranteed minimum production, they threw in energy efficiency measures, and overall they have been great to work with throughout the process. I've waited to write this review so that I could include some numbers. In 2021 compared to 2020 I saw a 16% reduction in my gas usage and a 26% reduction in my electric usage. The dollar value of my savings account for about 40% of my monthly payment for the panels. There was no down payment required to get the panels and Shine helped me get a loan. We are out 66K with our system. We had one hail storm that came through and instead of the one free system reinstall it went towards my insurance. I work as a county deputy and my wife is a school teacher. We were hoping to save and have this cut our bills for our retirement years. No such luck. But if you see old Nick Gorden's Facebook page, he sure isn't suffering any. He's doing just fine. What a guy. Defrauding people seems to be big business. To start off I just found out this company is out of business all of a sudden. I did some research to find out that former employees knew this was happening months ago, and nobody reached out to inform customers about this. I truly believe now that this company is some kind of scam. There's no other explanation. This company doesn't deserve a single star let alone my money. Shine Solar has the worst communication I have ever seen in a company. As of writing this my solar system was installed around the end of 2024 in August or October which took them nearly a month for some reason to ONLY contact my city for permits. The installation was fine considering now. To this day I have been waiting for my solar system to be approved and inspected so that it can be turned on. This all started because the city came by and pointed out a bent mast on my roof that they couldn't approve for an inspection. This mast by the way was not bent when we bought the house 4 months before we had installers on our roof for solar. I have contacted them countless times to urge them to fix it and get them turned on. No matter what I say or do they always tell me that they either can't reach my utility company to ask for an inspection which I can't pass anyways, or they tell me they had me scheduled to come and fix everything. I waited an entire day sitting close by my front door on February 4th 2025. No phone call or knock the entire day. If I try to call them at any point they do not answer even if I sit for hours waiting. After they installed this useless system on my roof they act like I no longer am a priority in any way. The best part right now is that my taxes are held up to even file this system because I needed an invoice on the cost of only the equipment that was installed. After nearly a week of trying to reach them they answer and tell me that they can't give me that information because they don't have it and that the bundled price works. That's not how the law works I can't just put a price not knowing what all it included. This is all despite an agreement I signed which stated they are required to give me all documents for taxes. So I'm conclusion I can't file this system on my taxes, they won't do anything to get my system functional, and this was ultimately the last option they gave me. I am paying two full electric bills worth of bills now for a system that don't work. I need my system installed, and I need a breakdown of what my solar project actually cost! NOT a single collective number that I can't use in a tax form because I don't know how much the labor and equipment actually cost, and the form asks for both individually. We have been very happy with this company. Our electric bills are a fraction of what they were. We are in our late 40s and should be reaping the benefits for years to come. I would use them again in a heartbeat. I was skeptical when we started looking at solar but after extensive research I was pleased to find Shine Solar. Horrible company with the worst customer service in the business. Over 27 of my solar panels do not work as well as one of my inverters (under warranty). I have called them dozens of times, texted them, emailed them, left voicemail and requested call backs. No human answers their phones and no one calls back. I have filed a complaint with the BBB. They guaranteed my system would be monitored 24/7/365 and that I would be able to monitor my production daily via an app. Half of my system has been non- working since early January, but no one at Shine Solar apparently knows this. After the sale, you are nothing. And when you need them, they are happy to log your issue, but fail to (1) follow up according to their word and (2) actually solve the problem. We paid a whole lot of money for a solar system, including battery back-up for our well water system so that at least when the power was out we could have water. We have been without power and water for 5 days. I have called and spoke to several people and nobody can actually help. In fact, they said that they were waiting on me to tell them when I had power. They text us that they will be at the house between 1-3pm. We were waiting for them in the heat and nobody came or called. I called back in the morning trying to figure out what happened and they said someone would call me. Nobody called me. I called back and I'm told that somebody was there between 12-5pm and they took a picture of my battery. I asked what time? They don't know. I asked for the President's email address and was told they are not allowed to give it out. Nobody will tell me why my battery back up doesn't work and won't tell me why they can't fix it when the power is out. I kept saying "isn't the point of the battery back up to work without power?" It was like an insane merry go round. It's been craziness. All they can spew is just the age old script of customer service platitudes. As a customer, you really have no recourse and now I'm stuck with a backup battery system that doesn't work and monthly payments and my blood pressure through the roof with the anxiety and stress this has caused during a time when my restaurant has been destroyed by tornadoes and we've been without power and water for 5 days and all I want is the one thing I invested in to work. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! We signed a contract with Shine Solar to install 28 panels onto the roof of my 30'x40' shop. They scheduled an inspection a few weeks later to make sure the building was ok and found they couldn't install it on the roof for multiple reasons like; the sheet metal is too thin, the roof trusses can't support the weight, etc. I told them if they couldn't install it on the shop like we agreed then we don't want it. We then checked with the builder who agreed that the roof could not support the extra weight. After we said to cancel it they then said "Oh, we had our "engineer" take a look at it and he says it's fine. We can put it on the shop now". I don't trust that they're not just saying that to get the sale and are willing to do something that is unsafe Now they're saying that I'm the one cancelling because their engineer now says it's safe after saying it wasn't safe and if I don't continue with them then we'll have to pay them a 10% ($5000) penalty. I would like to warn other consumers from signing contracts with Shine Solar during initial sales calls and to give yourself many weeks to months of educating yourself about solar and Shine Solar's pricing and business tactics. I wish I had done better research into this company and I'm amazed at how many complaints I've come across and a clear pattern of unhappy consumers and a way of doing business that seems predatory when they don't get their way. I responded to an email in June 2023 claiming to provide me a no hassle estimate and it shortly lead to daily calls and emails to sign a contract. I have a family member who has cerebral palsy and I wanted to find a way to eliminate electrical bills for him if anything ever happened to me. I'm now being threatened with legal action and I've not had any services performed. Unfortunately my site inspection took place a week after my sales call and then they didn't provide me the information from that inspection until after I couldn't cancel legally. I believe this is done intentionally to wait more than 3 days because why would a person cancel if they haven't even received the true costs of the project or loan. Once I received the email providing the true costs of loan sheet required under federal law I let Shine Solar know I didn't want to proceed. Soon after my sales call I sent several emails and texts letting Shine Solar know I've run into some issues with moving forward and asked them not to order any materials and thought I was being thoughtful to help eliminate their costs if I changed my mind. I did change my mind and now the Account Manager in charge at Shine Solar is stating he will be coming after me for 10% of the whole system that was never even installed. I've tried to offer a reasonable payment for any time spent by their sales team but that isn't acceptable to Shine Solar and they plan to take legal action against me for $4,853.40. I've not had a system installed and only had a tech come to my home to gather measurements. The account manager explained to me they have incurred costs for panels even though I asked them not to order any panels until I've made up my mind. He told me they've incurred costs in permits although the county has no permits filed or my electric company. He told me they cannot just re-use my panels on another project although the sales person told me they use the same type panels for every job. I'm not claiming Shine Solar has done anything illegal. I would just like to warn other consumers the business practices used when somebody changes their mind after a sales call. Please beware of this company! Just because a company may have a legal right to bill someone penalty fees does not make it right or good business practices and I truly don't want to see anyone else get into the same position I've gotten into with this company. Shine Solar sees this as good business practices but I see this as predatory to bill a customer for costs a business didn't truly incur. In this day in time a consumer should be able to change their mind if services haven't actually been rendered. Beware because it all sounds very good and makes sense during the sales presentation but unless your an expert in solar or very educated in how your electric company compensates you for power not used, it can take time to learn all this stuff. The sales team provided me with false information during the presentation regarding compensation from my power company. I don't believe I was intentionally misled and just believe the sales person wasn't aware of my electric companies policies. Shine Solar is an out-of-state company providing services in many states so they just weren't aware of local policies that affected the overall costs of the system and therefore provided me with information that sounded better than it was. Those policies for compensating power not used actually made the panels more costly than just purchasing a certain amount of power back after so many KWH's generated. I responded to a simple email for an estimate and now I'm being threatened with litigation with a company who wants $4,853.40 for doing practically nothing and I still have no solar system on my house and now I'm having to pay an attorney to represent me. It's very hard for me to believe Shine Solar has incurred such costs and when I asked for a breakdown of their costs so I could review and pay anything reasonable I was told they don't have to provide me anything. This company knows you will soon discover you've been charged double the normal costs and anyone trying to cancel will then be threatened with penalty fees even though they pretend there's flexibility if you change your mind it's not true and they will turn their legal team on you to bully you into moving forward. This company only cares that they get your money. They are NOT looking out for your needs. I have talked to other consumers that have purchased solar panels and they get much more electricity out of a single panel than I get out of all mine. And they were installed in the same year. When they came to install the electrical portion, they tracked mud, red clay, all over my garage and entry way. that's was the first thing I noticed that I didn't like. According to my contract, that by the way, I had to sign before they would even quote my sight. We were supposed to have 60% of our electricity taken care of with the solar panels. So far, after almost 2 years of paying $130 per month for the panels it has only doubled my electric bill because it has not in fact lowered my bill by 60%. My bill has remained pretty much the same. And now I have to pay for panels ($37k) that basically do nothing. Never have we had a bill lower from the electric company like they claim! I Have an app that keeps track of the panels and tells me what percentage I am actually getting. So, I asked them why I'm not getting what I should. They told me the apps percentages doesn't work, so not to go by that. And I just need to buy more panels. Shine Solar in Rogers, Ar Customer Service???? 18 months ago I signed a contract to install a solar power system on my roof. The roof was 17 years old and approaching its end of life. Shine Solar encouraged me to sign the contract and they would remove and reinstall the solar panels for me when I replace my roof in the future. I ask to add the uninstall and the reinstall of solar panels included in my solar power system contact. Shine Solar emailed me that they had added it to the contract. See attachment. Fast forward to June 6, 2022. I have a contract for a new roof to be installed (in 5 weeks) on July 12, 2022. I called Shine Solar to schedule the removal and reinstallation of the solar panels. Shine Solar told me the earliest they could remove my solar panels is Oct 20, 2022. Before the contract it was: "It's easy to remove and reinstall the solar panels for a roof replacement" and after the contract it's: "We're too busy and cannot get to you to honor our contract for 19.5 weeks" They need to change the name of their department from: Customer Service to: Customer Denial Too busy serving new customers to serve older customers. ***BUYER BEWARE*** Solar panels were installed June 2019. My electric bill has NOT gone down $1. According to Shine Solar's pathetic excuse of a customer service department, their "legal team" made a mistake in calculating whether solar would work for me due to the fact my electric company DOES NOT net meter. Shine Solar wanted to install batteries which they said would take care of the problem. After waiting more than a YEAR, batteries were finally installed in January 2021. Low and behold, my electric bill has not changed!!! NO reduction in my payment to the electric company. Since July 2019 I have repeatedly called the Shine Solar customer service phone number asking for a solution and for something to be done. Making payments to the solar finance company AND my electric company is not acceptable. I called Caleb (CEO at Shine Solar) on February 12, 2021 for his assistance. Apparently, he was on an executive snow mobile vacation and didn't have time to work with me. It is obvious once they SELL you a solar system the "honeymoon sales stage" is over. Customer SERVICE IS NONE EXISTENT. Shine solar sold me a system that cannot take advantage of net metering (which was a MAJOR selling point for me) and has left me to paying not one, but two bills now. Unbelievable. They have provided me with a solar system that has failed to reduce my electric bill by $1 and have no intention of righting this situation!! It's just on to the next sale... I gave Shine Solar a 5-star rating immediately following the install before the problems had time to materialize. March 2021, I give them a 0-star rating. In 2020 I inquired about a solar install, after discussion we made a deal on 22 panels to be installed on my steel shop building. And an additional 2 hvac systems to be installed in our home. The install took place in late summer. Everything appeared to be working well and then in late October a winter storm came through the area and caused a large ice build up on the solar panels and caused my steel shop building roof to collapse to a total loss stand point. Shine solar of course claimed that it was not their fault for issue. I find that hard to believe that they are free of fault when they chose the shop to put the panels on as well as sent out engineers to verify it was suitable for such an addition. The building had been built for many years prior to this and within a couple months of the install it was flat on the ground. I'm very grateful this was not my home where my family is in. This review could've went a very different direction. Fast forward nearly one year later and they finally have reinstalled the panels on the new shop building. Very long process after you cut the initial check. Very poor follow up communication and support. I requested a ground mount for the reinstall and they quoted several thousand dollars to do such. Even after I had already paid more than most people's vehicle for the first install as well as stuck with the bill to rebuild the steel shop building. In the end I still had to pay an additional $600 to replace bent and broken parts just to get the panels reinstalled. I felt this process was absolutely terrible and would never recommend this company for anything at all. If I wasn't in the hole on this original purchase so greatly I would just cancel the whole plan all together. Please take my experience as an example of the bad side of this company. read more

I performed an on-line query. A salesperson established contact and requested electrical utility information. I agreed to have utility provide that info. The salesperson then indicated he would get back to me with a detailed proposal. I had indicated that I was not really interested in my current home; rather, one that I would build. But, I wanted to see the DATA regarding ROI possible at my current home. The salesperson wanted to "present" his data via a computer link-in to my home computer. Rather than that, I scheduled a face-to-face meeting. At that meeting we sat thru the sales pitch including the ubiquitous "after seeing this is there any reason you wouldn't want to go ahead with an installation?" Again, I just wanted to see the data AND have a reference list. The salesperson agreed to send my "data" and the referral list. One week after our meeting I inquired about the promised info. I was told "will be sending shortly". That was yesterday. I STILL DO JOT HAVE EITHER PIECE OF REQUESTED INFORMATION. I was torn between giving a 4-star and a 5-star, but ultimately came down on 5. Short version: The process was a little slower than I wanted, but not too terribly long either: about 3 months from the time I reached out to the panels going live. The sales and customer service rep were pretty awesome throughout the process, though there was one or two hiccups. Longer version: The initial sales pitch was less painful than most, but only because I was already really excited about going solar and my wife and I rushed the salesman through his prompts. I can't stand sales pitches and it sounded like he had one lined up for us, so I'm glad we got him to skip most of it (we extensively researched solar power for our situation and had detailed questions going into the scheduled call - I'd recommend doing this). After agreeing to the terms, we got rolling pretty quickly: he sent over a number of documents for us to review and electronically sign. Throughout the process I felt like the sales team was pretty great: really informative and usually quick to respond to any questions I had. After that first step, though, things slowed down pretty significantly. We waited a couple of weeks for a guy to come out to our house to take a look at our roof and electrical box, and another week for an aerial scan with a drone, then several weeks for paperwork to be done behind the scenes (permitting with the city, an agreement with the utility company and whatever else). Finally the panels got installed, but we couldn't turn them on for about a month and a half. My customer service rep had warned me ahead of time that they couldn't be turned on until a final inspection by the city and then the utility company had to come out and install a special electrical meter, but he had indicated that this usually takes 2-4 weeks, while mine was about 6 weeks. Shine came through with a reasonable solution for me, should cover 60-65% of my electric over the course of the year. The installers were great, a 6.72kW system with 24 panels completely installed in four hours. One minor leak in my old roof but they sent out a crew who fixed it and checked the system out, they're very thorough. We've been totally active since April 7th (2 weeks) and so far the system is working great, we're generating a surplus since we're not using air conditioning much and will likely have a negative kW/h bill this month and next. Monitoring is awesome, iOS apps on my iPhone and iPad let me keep an eye on that and of course I can check the meter to see what my forward & reverse currents are. NW Arkansas is a great place for solar, we're far enough South and good enough weather to make it work. I expect the loan to be revenue-neutral for a couple years, and improve as the loan stays the same but the electricity rises in cost. Cost of the system is reasonable, about $22k for my 6.72kW system which would have been around $13k had I bought it direct, plus around $5k in installation. So the extra $4k covers their profit and warranty. Great financing too. After sales support is awesome, Faith and Skylar have been very helpful and answered all my questions. I'm on Carroll Electric, they took 3 weeks to send someone out before the system went "Active" but they were friendly too. The sales experience was the worst part of the deal - long on speculation, short on details. Keep asking questions until you get the info you need. The owners and executives of this company suck. Day 1 of employment they ask you to write amazing reviews on FB google etc of their company without knowing anything about it and them. They badger and pay their customers for good reviews. Disappear for days and don't answer questions. They push you into a 25-30 year loan and tell you the offset of your electricity bill pays for it. It doesn't, unless you want to pay the loan off early. Your warranty will be over before you pay it off coupled with solar panels that are losing efficiency every year. They aren't here to help the environment or you. They are here to line their pockets with money as quickly as possible. If your home doesn't fit the "perfect for solar" model they are following they don't even want to talk to you. These people also engage in very aggressive and misleading telemarketing. They often make fun of their customers after duping them into their over priced systems. Seriously just talk to an electrician and buy your own.
