In Dr. Shewmakers defense, we have been clients o his for many years and have never had a problem. He has always been very kind and compassionate and our three dogs have never had a problem. We dropped her family dog off this morning to be neutered. I helped you three year old loving dog with nothing wrong. I received a call later that afternoon informing me my dog had died. I wish I would have read the reviews on Yellow Pages or other places where he has killed many pets. The nonchalant attitude and lack of compassion and empathy by both the staff and the doctor led me to believe this is a common occurrence. Please please please if you love your pet do not take them to this place take him anywhere else. I'm sorry I had to give him one star he doesn't deserve that. read more

I took my 4 month old very HAPPY HEALTHY LIVELY kitten to get neutered and they had me leave him there from 8:30 am till 4 pm. 2 days later this baby now has a super high fever won't eat basically lifeless. I take him back to see what's wrong and they charge me $200 for putting a thermometer in his butt and giving me antibiotics after looking at him for 2 seconds saying it's a respiratory infection. He's now got sores in ears. All this after going to this clinic. Accept for the one girl the others were RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL! This place is filthy and I know my little baby got SICK IN THAT VERY UNSANITARY PLACE. I believe the knot he's now got on his back from where he gave him the shot of antibiotics is probably from that syringe being unsanitary. THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! ILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN AND SUGGEST NO ONE ELSE DOES! THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING!!! read more

My dog just recently died after being neutered. Shewmaker vet, the old guy claimed my dog died from anesthesia, the autopsy came back that he died from not being stitched properly and he bled to death. I seen your post. What actions did you take after? I'm dealing with lawyers now and writing a letter to the board of veterinary medicine. I need everyone who's been through the same thing to back me. If you're looking for someone to get the job done right, Dr. Shewmaker will come through. He isn't going to baby talk your animals or tell you how cute they are - this isn't his style. I will never go here again. I called the day before to get there hours of operation. He told me that they are open from 8-10 so I was there early.. (the first horse trailer there) and in total I was there almost 2 hours for a coggins test (which all they do is draw blood, take some pictures and document the markings... this normally takes no more than 10-15 minutes) the girl who finally came out asked me if my horse was a boy or a girl and asked me what the names of her markings were...I was told I would receive the coggins electronically and after two weeks of not receiving it I called and it was sent to me in minutes. The coggins is incorrect and they put she has a "socking" on her face (the correct term is a stocking not a socking ... and that's a marking for the foot not the face..). I am extremely disappointed and I will not be going back here. read more

My experience with Dr. Shewmaker has been terrible. He is rude when you disagree with him, when all you want is some kind of assurance when leaving your animal in his care. Leaving my dog in his care was the biggest mistake of my entire life. Not only did it cost me to undo what he did, it put a burden on my family to fix his huge mistake. There are no thumbs he should receive...none whatsoever. NONE People need to know they are literally gambling with their animal's life when they go there to any mobile unit of his or his office in LaBelle. read more
